<::: PLEASE READ

The Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open .. as long as there are cameras .. which are operational .. to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter .. so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY .. either on or off camera .. that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online .. so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

. . .ALL NEST CAMS - http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html
. . .BC = Bald Canyon on San Clemente Island - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z1sDndd8x8
. . . FP = Fraser Point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4q3Cq0I0uA Temporarily unavailable
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon (WMP) - http://media1.vcoe.org/eaglecam2 Temporarily unavailable
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2EbuOwNASY Temporarily unavailable - VCOE & NPS doing some major changes.
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon (Explore) - http://explore.org/live-cams/player/sauces-bald-eagle Temporarily unavailable - See Above.
. . .TH = Two Harbors (Explore) - http://explore.org/live-cams/player/bald-eagle-two-harbors
. . .TH2 = Two Harbors (new nest) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH421Voxj58
. . .THO = Two Harbors Overlook (Explore) - http://explore.org/live-cams/player/two-harbors-overlook-catalina
. . .WE = West End - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J2lBaHj0nI
. . .WEO = West End Overlook - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3T_babuBGI

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011
04:45 PM
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Reminder

Posted 6/9/17 on the Sauces Canyon Explore site:

"I just wanted to let everybody know that VCOE and the NPS will be doing some major infrastructure changes beginning this Monday, June 12, 2017. We will be re-locating several of our microwave sites to higher elevations and more centralized locations, which will allow for a more reliable signal and future growth opportunities. Both the Sauces Bald Eagle and Mount Diablo webcams will be off-line until we can finalize the installations. Unfortunately, this may take several weeks to accomplish. As always, we will attempt to restore service as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience as we undertake this major upgrade.

Sincerely,

David Luff"

Posted 9/22/17 by Dr. Sharpe on IWS Chat:

”We are trying to find an alternate internet connection because it is unknown when the Coastal Planning Commission will give the Park permission to move the other antennas. I think the egg samples were delivered last week. I doubt they will tell us much.”

Question asked on the IWS Facebook page - November 14th.

When will the Sauces cams come back on?

Answer: Institute for Wildlife Studies.

The internet through VCOE will not be available until late spring/summer, so we have to try to find other internet to the island. I think Explore.org is going to be able to get internet through UC Santa Barbara.
