<::: PLEASE READ

The Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open .. as long as there are cameras .. which are operational .. to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter .. so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY .. either on or off camera .. that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online .. so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

. . .WEO = West End Overlook - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3T_babuBGI

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
10:35 AM
Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011
04:45 PM
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

WE .. K-91 on the nest.

Checking back ..

6:29am .. K-01 drops in from above, rear right, looks around.

6:32am .. he hopped onto the log laid across the nest .. watches to rear and left.

6:46am .. hops onto the nest rock.

6:57am .. K-91 flew in from the rear and starts to move the log catching K-01's tail before placing it alongside the nest rock. Then she moves it onto the rock .. K-01 moved it off his talons .. she places it again on his feet. He grabs one end to move it she still has hold of it and it breaks into two pieces.

6:59am .. she moves it to the rear .. he pecks at her head and she beaks at him.

7:10am .. K-91 looks up at K-01 .. then she trumpets and beaks at him.

7:14am .. K-01 takes off to the right. Heads towards the peaks then turns and lands on the branch office.

7:16am .. he returns with a small stick.

7:23am .. both watching left .. K-01 on the nest rock.

7:31am .. peaks start to turn golden.

7:45am .. both still standing watching .. sunshine warms them.

7:53am .. K-01 flew off towards and then past the peaks. K-91 tracks.

WE .. continued ..

7:56am .. K-01 returns from behind the peaks has a small stick.

8:00am .. K-01 dives over the right front then is seen flying past the right side of the nest with a long branch. He may have picked it up from the side of the nest.

8:01am .. he returns with it .. K-91 tries to help him place it .. then she takes it from him and places it at the front. K-01 starts to work at the rear.

8:05am .. as K-91 still works on the sticks at the front .. K-01 dives over the front right again.

K-91 watches and preens.

8:41am .. she alerts and flew off to the right.

Thanks, Pat, for the great captures & the timeline from this morning and this afternoon!

The WE pair sure seem anxious to start a family, don't they?
