<::: PLEASE READ

The Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open .. as long as there are cameras .. which are operational .. to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter .. so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY .. either on or off camera .. that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online .. so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
10:35 AM
Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011
04:45 PM
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward:

Posted 12/21/17 by IWS on Instagram:

"We’re starting to see daily activity again at the Sauces nest! The pair have been coming in every morning at sunrise to work on the nest. We confirmed that the male is still A-40 but haven’t had a good shot at the female band number yet. We’re doing our best to get the feed streaming online ASAP!"

WE .. 11:29am .. both adults return to the nest.

K-91 landed first and then K-01 is seen soaring around the peaks and heading towards the nest .. then he <poofed> onto the nest!

K-91 moves a small stick to the rear.

11:31am .. K-01 hops onto the nest rock and K-91 tackles the mound of fluff in the bowl.

11:34am .. K-91 hops up onto the nest rock .. they both track something.

11:37am .. sounds like a helicopter in the area.

11:39am .. K-91 beaks at K-01's head .. he moves along the rock and she trumpets and calls at him.

11:42am .. they both alert to something on the left .. K-01 takes off in that direction.

11:47am .. K-01 returns with fluff.

11:50am .. K-91 takes off to the left .. K-01 tracks.

11:51am .. K-01 takes off to the left

11:53 .. K-91 is back with more fluff. She is spreading it when K-01 flies in front right with more!

11:59am .. after standing watching all around K-91 hops onto the nest rock .. K-01 remains at the rear.

12:02pm .. K-91 alerts and stretches to see something on right .. she <poofed>.. K-01 flew off to the right.

WE .. 12:05pm .. K-91 returns front right with more fluff.

Now up on the nest rock watching the rear.

12:09pm .. K-01 returns .. he has fluff too! Must be a sale on it somewhere.

12:10pm .. K-91 flew off to the left.

K-01 tracks .. then he too flies off to the left at 12:12pm.

12:13pm .. K-91 arrives from the right with a forked stick.

12:17pm .. K-91 turns and moves towards the rear watching as K-01 returns and lands with a long branch.

I can't keep up with these two!

K-91 takes an end wants to help place it .. K-01 takes it to the rear.

12:20pm .. K-91 on the nest rock .. K-01 at the rear of the nest both watching to the right.

12:24pm .. now K-01 is also on the nest rock. K-91 beaks at him.

WE 12.23
Sure are building up that bowl with a lot of fluff :D K91 stands rock center to the left, K01 stands at the 1 looking out.

12.24
Now he turns and hops up to rock rear to keep watch

12.25
K01 shakes out his feathers and scans the left and front.

12.26
He looks down the rear and left. Then to the front again, as does K91
