When this forum was started I expressed my doubts that it would be sucessful and I seem to have been proved right. So you tell us why you don't post? Whats wrong with it? How we can improve it? Should we attempt to keep it running? |

I run a Yahoo Group (for Morgan three wheelers - what else?) and we have more than 100 members. Of which, 10 are pretty regular, with another 10 who appear from time to time. We run ok with that, and I think regarding 25% of the membership as reasonably active is probably fairly typical. I did once start a forum for the local scout group but it died the death since we really do not have enough active members. For my tupporth, I think you should stick with it, since there are not that many forums (fora?) aimed at the historic vehicle movement. Classic and Sportscars forum for example is hardly a hive of activity, and so far, we've had more real content here, with probably far fewer members. Just to bung something technical in, did you realise a magneto for a twin generates sparks of alternate polarity? If you didn't you're not alone since a manufacturer of advertised magneto capable rev counters also did not realise... |

Reasons for not posting. Purely time and nothing to say (or at least add ) on my part:- I'm really struggling to get the automotive loves of my life going whilst still providing food on the table for the human LOML! Time on the net is time not spending time on the others!I briefly peruse a couple of other forums, but would say this could be my favourite, as the individuals involved are local which adds something, and not tied to one make or even model, which adds a lot! Are there any pub meets / technical workshops (informal preferably) that exist within the group? Confess I can't contribute as much as I'd probably gain, but would be willing to lend a hand or two if I can or a spanner or three. Not complaining, just musing. For a technical tip, I'd profer this:- it's easier to fit OE panels properly than reproduction. Remember this when choosing a body shop, it makes the labour cost less... Dave T |

Whilst showing my Austin 12 "Police car at Amberely last w/end a retired aircraft engineer told me of a way of dealing with fuel vaporisation, the idea is to bring the fuel line back from half-way along the engine where it runs close to the exhaust manifold to the bulkhead ,form it into a coil then go straigth across to the carburrettor. Now the magic touch encase the coil in a beer or whatever your taste, fill with ice or first aid cold pack and awayyou gohope that helps someone, all the best ,John. |

With all due respect, could it be to do with the average age of the members in the CVPG ? A lot of the older generation struggle with computers and dare I say it but, most older folk don't even have an internet connection. I struggle with it and I'm 33 ! It's surely to do with how computer literate people are. Last time my brother and I went to Heath & Reach we were patted on the back and told "It's nice to see a couple of youngsters here" Obviously we were flattered, my brother more than me, he's 45 and I'm 33 ! It is a shame though, as it could be really usefull and interesting. I belong to a vintage television forum, and it's busy all the time. I really don't want to upset anyone and sound disrespectful, but that is my feeling. COME ON YOU LOT, LET'S CONTINUE THIS ARGUMENT ON THIS SUBJECT AND KEEP THE MODERATORS BUSY AND HAPPY Dave W |

When we last looked at the membership we found a surprising number (about 30% were under 40) although these are the members who are least likely to attend the monthly meetings perhaps due to the talks subject or family commitments which the older members may not have. Perhaps it is to be expected that the older generation are more interested in preserving our motoring heritage and the least interested in "modern" technology. The committee has always tried to encourage the younger element to participate in the CVPG, one of the reasons for this forum. In fact our present treasurer is 31 and our former rally secretary was 25 when she joined the committee and only retired when she had her second child. We have plenty of members under 40 who contribute to the club often in unseen ways such as setting the July treasure hunt, marshaling at the LFT, lending vehicles for Ally Pally etc. It may just be a case of new technology does not interest people engaged in old cars but gathering by the number of folk trading spares on ebay I doubt this is the case. Please lets hear your views |

Don't think the age of the members has anything to do with not posting. Most people want a lively forum with lots of post topics and that will only come with more active forum members so your in a chicken and egg situation. I visit every day but there is very little to involve me at the moment. Have you thought of a silly game like most forums have to involve people then they may post on other topics. I think having to pre register to post is putting people off as well. |

Back in 1992 I had just passed my test and as I'm a non conformist, instead of buying an XR3I, XR2,Nova SRI etc etc, I bought a 1971 Austin 1300 GT. I loved the little car to bit's, and while I was washing it one sunday one of your guy's stopped in a 30's Austin van and asked if I wanted to join your motley crew and bring the 1300 to LFT. When I said 'But this is a rough as hell' the answer was 'It's allright, just tell em it's a running restoration' I joined at the next Heath and Reach meeting and continued on and off sinse. The reason... The CVPG is not full of 'classic car snobs' who I can't stand, sneering and passing comments because the vehicle you drive isn't pristine. It's about keeping the vehicles roadworthy, the meetings are great and people, I have found' to be very approachable. A lot of car clubs won't entertain my Austin 1800 because allthough it's never been welded or restored, it's classed as a crap car that no one likes ! The best comment I heard at the LFT was from the arena, the B Series engine club were there, here's how the conversation went over the PA... "We are the B Series club and we welcome any vehicle with a B Sreies engine" The MC then said... "That's very interesting, so MG's, Marina's etc, all of the above ?" B Series guy said "Yes, we welcome them all" MC said So what about if someone wanted to join with an Austin 1800 ?" Bseries guy said " ER NO !" quite disgusted that the MC had even asked ! But the CVPG welcomes all, and I say ... More power to it, let's make things interesting, if all classic enthusiasts had the same vehicles it'd be very boreing at the shows ! Thanks Dave W |

Ah, the man in the old Austin van, (Dickie Hall) was responsible for a lot of people joining the club including me. I had an Austin 1300GT, in fact I still have it at the back of the garage. I had it new for my 18th birthday, (you can work out how old I am now). I used it as my everyday car until 1983 when it became a restoration project. Great little car and very unrated. |

Dickie Hall, you're right of course. It was good to see him at Heath and Reach last night and catch up ! I loved the thing, it could keep up with my mates 'shopping trolly's' without any effort at all and always turned heads. My 1300 GT was trashed by an ex girlfriend... When we finished she broke all the windows, lights, cut the seats up and belted all the panels ! Hell hath no fury eh... |

It has been decided that the forum will run until Christmas and if the number of post doesn't pickup the club will discontinue it. This is regrettable but there is little point in continuing with something the member do not want or use. |

Maybe folk do not appreciate how good it can be because they have not ventured there, maybe there are members (age irrelevant) not yet PC savvy enough to brave registration, maybe.. anything really. So why not at the next meeting do a small presentation on it. You know, lap top, computer, etc. Is there a wireless network at the rugby club? I feel this would spur folk on to register and use it. I sincerely hope it is not scrapped, there is so much potential here. |

I agree it would be a shame for the message board to close it could be a useful resource for the club. Unfortunately I haven't got a computer at home and have to post at work sneakily while the boss isn't looking or I'd be on here more often. |

Gone very quiet on here again after the rush of people posting after last weeks club magazine. The forum will now probably be wound up at the end of November as we were due to migrate to Zetaboards as part of Invasionfree takeover in early December and there seems very little point in prolonging the slow death of this Message Board. |
