Does anyone know of any local outfit that could do an economy bottom end job on my Spitfire 1500? I cannot afford a new or big, engine rebuild but a change of bearings assuming the crank is OK would keep her running a bit longer. Other than start up rattle she is fine and uses no oil so with about 2k miles per year I reckon I would get a fair few years out of that! |

I think you're in the DIY zone here. With rattle on start up I'd be prepared to bet the crank was scored, or showing signs of wear. For that reason I very much doubt that anyone would professionally change the bearing shells without grinding the crank. rgds Martyn |
