Got home on Saturday night and caught the first hour or so of Galavision's Lucha Libre. I don't pretend to be a big follower or expert on Lucha. I'll watch every so often because it reminds me of old live action superhero shows, or MUSCLE things. The show opened with a recorded PHONECALL from Rey Mysterio, Jr. It was subtitled in Spanish, which meant the call was actually in English. Rey talked about how he wants to return to Mexico and do one more match for his all his fans...but in the meantime we should all check out the second round of Triple A invading Japan...a show which starts NOW!!! Apparently, this is the second big Triple A vs. Japan show. Not sure WHICH Japanese promotion it is, but maybe one of you hardcorers can figure it out. After 8 minutes of intro's, we get a six-man match: Charly Manson, Juventud Guerrera & Mr. Aguila vs. TAKA Michinoku, Nosawa & Tiger Mask. Introductions: Manson has a Marilyn Manson gimmick going, but despite the gimmick he's an okay rassler. Mr. Aguila's graphics present him as "Mr. Aguira". Juvi's drawers say "Dirty Chic" on the rear...WTF?! I pick up that Juvi and Aguila are apparently a well travelled tag team, named "X-Team" or something. Juvi wears a mask out, but hops up ont he turnbuckle to remove it before the match starts. TAKA's intro video is in Engish and starts with "We Are....Kai...En Tai.. Dojo!" (but sadly, no EVIL..INDEED!) Tiger Mask is wearing a black/white furry mask, complete with FANGS on his cheeks. Nosawa no longer has the black eye-spot face paint from his TNA days..instead he looks like a gay French circus clown. His head is shaved, except for one tuft, dyed yellow and sticking straight up, on the top of his dome. Match itself: Aguila and Juvi work well together, at one point lifting Nosawa into a double powerbomb, so Manson can fly in and nail him. Aguila and Nosawa take turns being the whipping boys for most of the match. Tiger Mask works some nifty twisting armbars. Yes, a nifty armbar. Aguila finally makes a hot tag to Juvi and the faces come back. Juvi and Aguila clear the ring of TAKA and Tiger Mask. Manson flies in, nails Nosawa with a flying dropkick (IIRC) and works a reverse spinnig toe hold into... some sort of rolling reverse figure four! Went from the toehold into a small package, then rolled through to apply it. Cool move and one I haven't seen before. Or at least seen applied in the quick fashion Manson did. Nosawa turns on the whine siren and submits almost immediately. Good match. It's taped! I was hoping the whole show would be Triple A vs. Japan, but it was just that opening match. The show switched to CMLL from Mexico after that. After 15 minutes of commercials and an interview with CMLL Chicas Champion Tiffany, we get a six broad tag team match. Princessa Blanca comes out first, with her own backup stripper...errr, sideshow dancers. I'm thinking "oh cool, it's Team Hot Chic"..but the other two dancers leave. Blanca could stand to use about 5 pounds, but she looks fairly bang-able in her red cowgirl outfit with deluxe latina booty. Blance is followed by MORE long-ass intro's, from her partners Lady Apache and Faby Apache (Faby?!). Faby is wearing a mask, the other two are without. They're opposed by eight more minutes of entrances....from Tiffany, Pricness Suigieth & Diabolica. Suigieth & Diabolica are masked, but Diabolica has a nifty satanic motif going on. I have to wonder if there's a Santanico Pandemonium in Lucha. The referee, Old Guy With Headband gets his own introduction. If so, I'd tune in every week. Match begins, and it's at this point that I nod off. Aftert 65 minutes, muchos commericales (fear my flagrant mis-use of Espanol!) and ONE match, 2:05am. arrived and I was out of gas. In between the matches, "up next" promos aired, featuring Latin Looooover, Psicosis and Octagon. If I'm up at 1:00 am next week, I'll tune in to see if they have more Triple A/Japan stuff...or Princessa Blanca. |
