To my surprise someone was nice enough to upload an entire month of OVW tv onto pwtorrents last week. I’m always up for seeing the future vanilla hosses of the WWF so I gave them a download.

The opening to the show is great with “Bodies” by Drowning Pool being the theme music. Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit and Rhyno make brief appearances.

Host is Jim Cornette

MNM vs. Nick Nemeth and Steve Lewington

I’m not big on MNM to be honest. Love the gimmick but find the workers involved to be horribly bland. Matthews and Nemeth start the match. Lockup and they fight over hammerlocks and headlocks. Nemeth comes off the ropes and hits Matthews with a shoulderblock. Nemeth hits a cross body block and gets a two count. Matthews gains control with a kick and sends Nemeth into the ropes. Blind tag and Lewington hits Matthews with a clothesline followed by a dropkick and a quick cover. Matthews pushes Lewington into the corner and tags Nitro in. Nitro gets a kick in the face and a leg sweep from Lewington. Lewington drops an elbow and covers for one. Nemeth tags in and hits a double axehandle. Back and forth until Nemeth hits a sloppy head scissors. Nitro charges into an arm drag and Nemeth works over the arm. Matthews distracts Nemeth leading to Nitro throwing him out of the ring. Matthews throws Nemeth into the ring and then tags in. They hit a double gutbuster and Matthews covers for two. Nitro tags in and they take turns kicking Nemeth. Nitro covers for two. Nitro abuses Nemeth with various shots and hits a knee in the corner. More double teaming from MNM as Matthews tags in. Matthews sends Nemeth into the corner and hits a spear. Nitro tags in and applies an abdominal stretch. Nemeth escapes and then ducks a Nitro spear in the corner. Hot tag time as Lewington abuses Matthews with punches. Lewington hits several clotheslines but then charges into a boot in the corner. Matthews charges into a powerslam but Lewington gets nailed Nitro. Lewington hits a neckbreaker and covers for a nearfall. Nitro ducks a dropkick and they hit the Problem Solver for the win. Generic formula match. *1/4

WINNERS: MNM

MNM beats down Nemeth and Lewington with straps for good measure. Ken Doane makes the save. He has a strap match with Matthews at some big show. Goodie.

Muhammad Hassan promo. I’m expecting this to be the exact same as his WWF crap. He’s got a match with Elijah Burke at the next OVW show. Basically the stuff he says in the WWF and none of it interesting. A lot of chants but none of the people shown on camera are actually chanting. Elijah Burke comes out to confront him and eventually gets beaten down. A bunch of wrestlers make the save. Segment was only six or seven minutes but really dragged. A fan jumps Hassan, I don’t know if it was a plant or not.

The Tolands are backstage. The champion is Chris Cage but they stole the belt at an earlier show. They wander a local mall with the belt. They tell everyone that will listen that Tank Toland is the OVW Heavyweight Champion. They also wander into a local McDonalds. Ah, who doesn’t miss the days of wrestling angles being shot at the local Golden Arches? Fairly amusing.

Deuce Shade (Snuka Jr.) vs. Chris Cage

I don’t expect much from this match as Shade is a terribly below average wrestler. Lockup and Shade backs Cage into the ropes. Breakup and Shade does a flip to show off. Lockup and Cage backs Shade into the ropes. Shade reverses and pushes Cage before doing another flip but gets a shoulderblock from Cage. Cage hits another shoulderblock and whips Shade into the corner. Shade hits head first and falls out of the ring. Cage hits a dive and throws Shade back into the ring. They fight over a german suplex until Cage hits the ring post. Shade hits a couple of elbows and chokes Cage using the ropes. Shade hits a hiptoss variation and covers for two. Cage fights back but Shade nails him with several punches to the gut. Shade hits a short arm clothesline and covers for two. Shade misses a move off the middle rope. Cage hits a bunch of punches and takes Shade down with an elbow. Cage hits a clothesline followed by a reverse DDT into his knee and covers for two. Shade hits an uppercut and it’s back and forth. Cage gains control by repeatedly smashing Shade’s head into the turnbuckle. Cage hits a cross body block off the top rope and gets the win. I really hope that isn’t the OVW Champions finishing move. Terrible match by the way. ½*

WINNER: Chris Cage

Chris Cage sees Chad Toland with his belt and goes after him. He gets his belt only to get a chair shot from Tank Toland. Tank Toland taunts everyone with the belt. Why does being a face mean being a retard?

Recap of some costume contest with all the strippers that the WWF has hired over the last year. Good to see Alexi Laree is being used so well. Next!!!

Chris Masters, Brent Albright and Matt Morgan come out for an interview. What’s the point of Master’s going to OVW if they’re going to stick him under a mask he won’t be wearing in the WWF? Doesn’t that hurt his progress? They have a match with the Bashams at the next big event. Albright and Morgan manage to make Masters look passable on the mic which is amazing to me.

OVW Southern Tag Team Title Match:
Mac Johnson and Seth Skyfire © vs. Jersey Shore Crew

Skyfire and the Idol start the match. Lockup and Idol tosses Skyfire. Skyfire gets a waistlock but Idol escapes with a hammerlock. They fight over a hammerlock and then stare each other down. Idol convinces Skyfire to do a test of strength and gets the advantage right away. Skyfire escapes with a monkey flip and gets a wristlock. Back and forth and Skyfire hits another monkey flip. Skyfire applies a headlock and tags Mac in. Mac blocks a kick and takes Idol down to the mat with a headlock. Mac gets a two count before Idol escapes with a leg scissors. Mac takes Idol down to the mat with a headlock. Idol backs Mac into the corner and tags Inferno in. Back and forth until Mac gets a headlock. Mac ducks a clothesline and then hits two of his own. Mac charges into the corner but gets lifted to the top rope. Mac hits a shoulderblock from the middle rope and covers for one. Skyfire tags in and applies a headlock. Maybe this is why all the OVW guys end up sucking, they only do headlocks. Denucci trips up Skyfire but he manages to take down Inferno with a drop toe hold. Idol comes in and stomps Skyfire after blocking a drop toe hold. Idol hits a vertical suplex and covers for two. The sad thing is a vertical suplex has probably been the most complex move down during this whole show. Skyfire escapes a belly to back and tags Mac in. Mac hits several clotheslines followed by a fisherman’s suplex and covers for two. Inferno tags in during some back and forth and hits a neckbreaker and punishes Mac with stomps, punches and elbows. Idol tags in and hits a headbutt. There’s a commercial break but it’s cut out. As it comes back Inferno has Mac in a headlock. Ugh….. this match has seven minutes left. Mac tries to fight out of the hold but gets a knee for his troubles. Idol tags in and Inferno hits Mac with a clothesline in the corner. Idol hits a knee and covers but Skyfire makes the save. A whole lot of nothing until Idol hits a vertical suplex. Legdrop and a two count follows. I think I would rather be mauled by rabid dogs instead of watching the last six minutes of this match. Inferno tags in and abuses Mac with punches and elbows. Mac fails to fight back yet again and gets choked on the middle ropes. Inferno covers for two. Cancer is starting to sound good compared to this match. Maybe with a side of kidney stones. More punches as these guys don’t seem to know a fucking move other than the basics. Skyfire breaks up another pinfall as I start trying to stick a fork into an outlet to end the crap. Idol tags in and I wonder why I should give a shit. Maybe I’ll punch Jim Cornette in the face if I ever meet him in real life for putting on such a horrible match. They literally take turns punching and applies headlocks to Mac for the next two minutes until the hot tag. Skyfire comes in and destroys the heels. Inferno breaks up a pinfall but gets a spin kick for his trouble. Mac hits Idol with a dropkick and Skyfire hits a guillotine legdrop for the win. Wow…… this SUCKED!!! This is one of the worst matches I’ve ever seen. This was worse than every match in TNA’s Hard 8 Tournament combined. I don’t give negative stars but I’m really tempted to. DUD

WINNERS AND STILL CHAMPS: Mac Johnson and Seth Skyfire

Big brawl to end the show.

Overall:
If these guys are the future of the WWF Vince is totally screwed. None of these guys could cut it in an indy fed. Most of the matches look like training school students fighting because the wrestlers have such basic movesets. I was hoping for some old school goodness but I got a crappy version of the WWF style. Well let’s see how 11-13-04 goes.

I think I'm going to use a new rating system for the next show if it's equally as bad.

That sounded atrocious. I guess it goes to show that Vince and Co. really don't watch OVW themselves.
