Damn my broadband connection. I always go too far when downloading. So here's what I've got. 200 issues of X-Men, most of the current Titans run, Batman Dark Victory, A lot of the Infinate Crisis minis and countdown books, the first couple of the New Avengers run and most of the Ultimate Spider-Man and X-Men runs.

So what would you read first with that selection?

1- some of the 200 X-men issues... assuming that they're pre-1992. If so, go there.
2- New Avengers
3-Infinite Crisis minis
4- Titans

If you've read "Batman: the Long Halloween", then put "Dark Victory" at #2.5.

How are you reading these? On your computer screen?

Yeah, I own most of the stuff but age (X-Men) and holes in my collection (Dark Victory, Titans) prevents regular reading. I downloaded the Ultimate books because I fucking hate the paper they use. The X-Men stuff is from about 1984 to current. I've also read Long Halloween so that will probably be high priority.

I prefer the computer sometimes because my fingers get really dried out when reading a lot of comic books at once. I tend to read 6+ in a sitting.

Hmm..X-men gets kinda' wacky around 1984, then. It seems like they were trying to cross-promote "New Mutants" with it. Plus, Storm was de-powered and Wolvie was out of the title and in Japan for 6 months (doing "Kitty Pryde & Wolverine").

I definitely recommend the 2-part Kulan Gath story from about #185 or so. Great story where Manhattan, the X-men, the Avengers and Spidey are plunged into Conan's world.

The Australian era from about #225-242 is different. X-men were proactive superheroes off fighting bad guys. No school, no professor..none of that crap. Also featured one of my favorite X-men, Gateway the Aborigine Guy.

See, I stay away from computer comics... I just love reading one comic per dump in my bathroom.

Pretty much. Imagine that, splitting your brand into two separate shows...errr, teams!?!

I didn't mind at first..since X-Factor had been running for about five years as essentially a second X-men team. But no real explanation was given WHY certain guys were on each team. Then Bishop entered and I really lost interest.

Actually... now that I think about it, I might go back about two years earlier for when X-men began to suck. When the team all "died" in the Siege Perilous it became incredibly confusing who was on the team. Forge and Banshee had their own team, while Wolvie and Jubilee were off doing their own thing. Rogue popped up in the Savage Land. Plus, you had 8 yr. old Storm and Gambit as another team. The "X-tinction Agenda", fall 1990's big crossover that bought most of em' back together, read like a massive clusterfuck.

By the way, ALOT of folks thought Gambit was a reborn Longshot. Made sense, since their names were similar and Wolvie even said "his moves remind me of Longshot". When Claremont was booted out of the book in 1991, I think that plot thread was dropped.

I'm currently downloading some of the Wally West era Flash comics to see if I want to subscribe to it next month with the Bat books and Teen Titans.

I can't think of the name of the storyline but the one where Colossus goes heel, Wolverine loses his adamantium and Magneto gets his brain fried was when I actually quit getting the book for awhile. This was also around the time that Excalibur essentially existed to keep Nightcrawler and Kitty off of the X-Men. Argh..... was that a frustrating time period.

I have to admit my favorite issues are the ones where they're just hanging around the house. The one right after Onslaught where it's a rainy day and Jean's making breakfast is one of my favorites from the more recent stuff. The issue where Colossus kills himself to cure the legacy virus is another of my favorites from recent times.

So far I've read the entire Batman Dark Victory series, one sitting, and the first 8 issues of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Also read a few Teen Titans issues. I plan to start cracking into the Flash books next.

I finished Crisis on Infinite Earths today. Not sure what I thought of it. It was ok but I think it was about 4 issues too long and flailed around a little too much.

Also read the first 4 issues of the Wally West era Flash. Fancy that 4 issues and they actually got through 2 storylines. If it were written today he'd probably still be trying to deliver the heart from issue 1.

I liked the first year or so of the "new" Wally Flash....with the Russians and all the other speedster knock-offs. The title seemd to die down around issue 20, though.

I really liked the storyline with the Chunk. At first I thought Chunk would be a Kingpin clone, but he had one of the more unique twists of the time. He was probably my favorite Flash supporting character.

Crisis is/was overrated in my mind. It was DC's first big "jam" book. A term I use to describe the big crossover books with everyone. Key element is the dialgoue where everybody makes sure to use each other's name or refer to themselves in the first person. Like:
"Lookout, NEGATIVE WOMAN,! VIBE and I can't stop the shadow demons"
"Ay carumba! You tell 'em STEEL!"
"Don't worry, DAWNSTAR is here to help!"

It really doesn't flow well, since the main characters change each issue. Fanboys like to slam Secret Wars, but at least that had a definied cast.

Didja' note the panels that have been copied for 'Infinite Crisis'? Especially a few shots of the Joker.

Secret Wars blows Crisis away. Fewer characters involved and they fought away from the general population. It was almost insulting the way they explained away the people not remembering the Crisis. Just too many things thrown in there that lead to nothing in the actual Crisis books. Did we really need to see Blue Demon with the Omega Men. Did we really need to see Guy getting his ring?

I've enjoyed the Flash so far. Though the early 90s are rapidly approaching and I know what a mess that's going to be.

I jumped over to the current Titans run and read about 5 issues of that. The did the dreeded crossover where you get part 1 in the book and then have to buy the special crossover book. Though it's sad that in the first 20 issues of the book that they're only just starting the 4th or 5th storyline.

I also checked out Green Lantern #9 and while I'll never buy that book because I'm annoyed about Hal. It was refreshing to see a story start and end in the same issue.

You have to love how within the span of 10 issues the Teen Titans had two crossovers with different books.

I just finished downloading the first 402 issues of Avengers. I'll probably dig into those sometime tomorrow starting with the return of Goliath in issue 28.

If you haven't read the old issues before, I'd recommend starting with issue 15, the death of Zemo and the end of the early Avengers era. #16 has the big roster shakeup, with the 3 face turns. I just kinda' feel that Avengers history doesn't REALLY start until Hawkeye comes aboard.

Oh, and if self-contained stories are your bag, check out the new Jonah Hex book. But it helps if you like Clint Eastwood.

If you want some old 70's self-contained DC cheese, check out "Brave & the Bold" from that era. Just don't use them as a barometer to gauge how Batman was at the time... they almost existed in their own parallel universe
