Tenay: Welcome everyone to the May 20, 2006 version of ICHIBAN TV!!!!!!!! I’m Mike Tenay here with Dave Meltzer and we are sure to have a great show for you here tonight. DM: That’s right Iron Mike, we got an action packed evening of action for the fans here and at home. Tenay: Tonight you’ll see a semifinal round match in our Junior Heavyweight title tournament as KENTA takes on the very talented TAKA Michinoku. Also we will see Minoru Suzuki go one on one with Kensuke Sasaki. DM: That’s right, and also we are going to see a HUGE debut this week here in Ichiban TV when legendary Japanese wrestling superstar Keiji Mutoh makes his NWA Japan debut against Shibata. Tenay: I can’t wait for that myself Dave. Also we are going to have a first time matchup between Taiyo Kea and the young superstar in Hiroshi Tanahashi. But the reason we are ALL here is for the dream tag team partner matchup tonight with Kenta Kobashi’s team vs. Genichiro Tenryu’s team. What do you think we’ll see here Dave? DM: Well, I have no idea Mike. Anything can happen in professional wrestling and TONIGHT…….it probably will. Tenay: Very true, let’s get to the right where we have our opening contest between KENTA and TAKA Michinoku. Standing leg lariat by KENTA on TAKA. KENTA strikes TAKA. DM: Legsweep out of nowhere. Second rope flying axe handle, TAKA goes down. Tenay: KENTA only gets knees on a splash. TAKA Michinoku hits a rolling kick on KENTA. Back heel kick from TAKA. Pin : 1....2..no. These two are really going at it during the early goings of this match. DM: Very true Iron Mike. KENTA counters an avalanche with a raised foot to the face. Back heel kick from KENTA. Tenay:Pin : 1....2..NO!!!!!!!!!That sure was close. KENTA face jams TAKA Michinoku. Cover! 1....2....kick out at the last second! That was about 2 and 9.9999999/10. KENTA looks shocked. DM: KENTA misses the elbow drop. Tenay: Spinning back kick from TAKA Michinoku. KENTA kicks TAKA Michinoku in the gut to reverse the momentum. Spin kick by KENTA to the face. KENTA moves in for the kill!!!!!!!! Here it comes……….. DM: Busaiku Knee Kick!!!!!! Tenay: 1....2...3, it's finished. Winner - KENTA (58/32/85) Rating - ***1/2 Tenay: Ladies and Gentleman, we have Genichiro Tenryu backstage. Tenryu can you tell us who your “Dream partner” is tonight? Tenryu: HAHA! You’d like that, huh Mr. Tenay? Well, you just live everybody else………………you’re gonna have to wait and see! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! (42) Tenay: Next up folks we have Kensuke Sasaki and Minoru Suzuki in the ring and ready to go for our next matchup. DM: This one is going to be ugly friends. Sasaki is a big bruiser and Suzuki isn’t intimidated by anyone. This one is gonna be a FIGHT! Tenay: Kensuke Sasaki hits some punches. Sasaki hitting the spinning neckbreaker on Suzuki. Pin : 1....2..no. Almost a 3. DM: Suzuki reverses a Kensuke Sasaki hammerlock. Wow, more wrestling in the getgo here than I expected. Tenay: Running clothesline from Minoru Suzuki. Sasaki takes a harsh kick right there to the face. Minoru Suzuki with a badly-executed spinning neckbreaker on Sasaki. That one looked like it caused major pain……….look at the face of Sasaki. DM: Sasaki blocks a suplex attempt. Massive backbreaker, Suzuki got planted. It looks like Sasaki might be moving in for the kill here. Tenay: Northern Lights Bomb!!! That shook the ring. 1....2....3!! DM: Kensuke Sasaki gives a murderous look toward Minoru Suzuki...and attacks! Suzuki gets dropped to the canvas, then battered with a barrage of rights and lefts. Sasaki leaves the ring having left Suzuki down and out. Tenay: Sasaki absolutely took him apart after getting the win. It looks as if Suzuki may be injured there. Winner - Kensuke Sasaki (48/40/56) Rating - *1/2 Tenay: Ladies and gentleman, we promised that we would have the bracketing and participants named in the NWA Japan Heavyweight title tournament and we won’t disappoint. Here they are…..
Tenay: There you have it ladies and gentleman, the 16 man, single elimination tournament for the NWA Japan Heavyweight title. Let’s keep the action rolling with another matchup!!!! DM: This one is going to be a SERIOUS contest between two guys that just so happen to be meeting in the first round of the Heavyweight title tournament. We can even call this one an early preview Iron Mike! Tenay: Kea bodyslams Hiroshi Tanahashi. Hiroshi Tanahashi fights out of a grapple. These two arent’ wasting anytime. DM: Back suplex on Kea. Kea reverses an irish whip...and Hiroshi Tanahashi runs into the referee! Tenay: Hiroshi Tanahashi scores with a released tiger suplex on Kea. Tenay: Hiroshi Tanahashi floors Kea, then signals for the Sling Blade. Meanwhile, Taiyo Kea has something in his hands. Tanahashi comes over...and gets nailed with a set of brass knuckles! Just in time for The referee 1....2....3! DM: This one isn’t over. The fight has started up again! Taiyo Kea attacks Tanahashi, and they brawl all around ringside, then into the crowd! DM: That’s right Mike, we are lucky enough to see on of the greatest wrestling superstars in the history of this sport. Keiji Mutoh came up in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He has wrestled on the biggest drawing wrestling shows EVER in Japan. He’s main evented Tokyo Dome shows for New Japan, he’s won the IWGP AND The Triple Crown title in All Japan. Yes! KENTA won. Kickass. That was a really good show, and one of the most intriguing aspects of the show every week is to see who will push the limits of the NWA Japan Committee. Once again, a lot of shenanigans, and a huge run in my Masa Chono. I'm excited to see what the committee has to say again. Your Japan title tournament is evolving nicely. Can we get a bracket update? |

Thanks man, glad you were diggin the show. Yeah, KENTA won.....and I must admit that the stuff people were expecting to see caused my booking change (I was gonna end up doing KENTA/Liger, but everyone saw that coming.)so I was glad that it actually made me think of an angle to do. Also, I've been having a lot of fun with the pushing of the committee. I just think it's a better way to have an "authority figure" as opposed to having a on air person in the role. |

I liked your show this week. It put some much needed emphasis on the heavyweights, as I was digging the lightweight stuff alot more than anything else until this week. The Taue-Misawa matchup was well built, and the heat between Chono and Misawa is getting good. Nice to see you breaking out the big guns for Tenryu-Kobashi as well. I wish there would've been some KENTA, but what can you do. Good build for that though, even without him with the Marafuji-Liger interactions. |
