MORE ON BOBBY LASHLEY, UPDATE ON UNITED STATES TITLE BOUT AT GREAT AMERICAN BASH PPV
by Mike Johnson @ 10:51:00 PM on 7/21/2006

The WWE website announced tonight that Finlay will defend the United States championship against William Regal at this Sunday's Great American Bash PPV, a match that has a ton of potential on paper if WWE gives them the time needed to make it work.

The website noted that Bobby Lashley was found to have an increase of enzymes in his liver during his annual physical for the company and will be out of action while that is monitored and taken care of.

According to one medical source, enzyme increases in the liver can be brought on by a number of possible factors including excessive use of vitamin supplements and certain herbal supplements, certain medications (including certain anti-inflammatory drugs, cholesterol-lowering medications, antibiotics and anti-seizure medications), excessive drinking of alcohol, obesity, diabetes, or an infection brought about by certain diseases. WWE did not point to a specific cause in their Lashley announcement.

Lashley, 29, debuted for the Smackdown brand in September 2005. It is believed that whatever the issue is that has caused the increase in his enzymes, it was caught by testing brought about by the WWE's increased concerns in their performers' medical conditions. If that is the case, the company should be praised for doing (and hopefully continuing to do) the right thing.

Out of curiousity I just wanted to see what people think of this.

Does anyone else but me think this might not be true and could be some sort of steriod related issue?

Not really, for some reason I buy it as being legit. Moreso the fact that they handled it so much on screen and brought him out for a bit of an interview at the Bash. If it was drugs of any kind, I would think he would just go to his suspension without explanation, ala Chris Masters and Joey Mercury.

I think they actually learned their lesson with Eddie, and are protecting the long term health of their workers.

Normally I would agree with that, but he WAS involved in a angle surrounding a title and they did the best they could without just pulling him randomly. Plus with Murcury they did lost the titles almost immediately. I just wonder if they new something ahead of time as Finlay did kind of win the US from him for basically NO reason.

I'm not saying I'm right, but I just figure I'd throw it out there as food for thought.

My guess is that they were going to try and ride it through the PPV and one of the news sites got ahold of the info and so they just took him off the PPV really quick to make it look like they had just found out.

That's what I was thinking as well.

I'd go 90% on steroids. 5% on him being a boozer and another 5% on a supplement causing it.

I'm going with the last 5%. Or, a mixture of the 5% caused by a background with the 90%.

The other night I read something on WWE.com saying that Lashley has been cleared to return to the ring.

So huzzah!

I like Lashley. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; I have no problem with Khali, as long as he's not put in long matches or overexposed.

It's funny, so far the only Khali match I've found to be even tolerable was against The Undertaker at Judgment Day. Taker worked his ass off to make the match come off as competent.

I have grown to enjoy Lashley quite a bit in the past several months. His feud with King Booker and co. really did a lot to establish him.

I've always had a fondness for Booker, and I'm glad he's doing good, but I think the one that really made Lashley was Finlay.
