So a new station started this spring for Cleveland sports called Sports Time Ohio. For a long time they only showed Indians games but they've finally started to expand programming. Low and behold a wrestling promotion called Cleveland All Pro Wrestling just started up. It's got a lot of the usual suspects. I'm going to try and catch the replay on Sunday and I'll have a report on if it's any good.

Notable names are Tracey Smothers, Chris Hamrick, Rhino, Alex Shelley, Claudio Castagnoli and Matt Stryker.

I'll have a review up after I get to watch it tomorrow night. Here's a card they're having tomorrow night that I saw advertised:

Abyss vs. Monty Brown

CAPW Heavyweight Title Match:
Claudio Castagnoli © vs. Chris Hero

CAPW Junior Heavyweight Title Match:
Matt Stryker © vs. Josh Prohibition

Nigel McGuiness vs. Johnny Gargano

Plus in October they have Samoa Joe, Buff Bagwell, Bryan Danielson, Irish Airborne and Davey Richards all coming in.

Reading up on this fed they've been around for roughly 13 years.

I'll have a review of the show up tomorrow. Abyss was a surprise tag team partner for the main event. It also seems to be more of a kayfabe fed than a smark fed.

Cleveland All Pro Wrestling Show #2

This isn't going to be a play by play recap. Just the basics of the matches and a star rating.

Hosts are Joe Dombrowski and Jamie Scott

Michael Cash is backstage with Abyss. He tries to ask Abyss why he's here and Abyss scares him off.

Rundown for tonight. Marion Fontaine vs. Chris Kole, Bump N Ugles vs. Faith N Nothing and the Suplex Machines defend the tag titles against Unknown and a mystery partner.

Michael Cash is backstage with Faith N Nothing. Vincent Nothing says they'll plow through the Uglies so that they can get a rematch for the tag titles.

Marion Fontaine vs. Chris Kole

Fountaine is a really skinny guy and Kole is fairly big so this match looks totally obsurd to start. Fountaine frustrates Kole with heel tactics and then running into the ropes to get the ref to break it up. Kole finally catches him and hits a flurry of moves. Fontaine bails to the outside as commercials come. Hey a Ring of Honor ad. We're back as Kole tosses Fontaine to the outside. Back in as Fontaine gets control with a low blow. Fontaine keeps Kole grounded with stomps and knees. Kole fights back a few times but Fontaine cuts him off with face rakes. Kole reverses a sleeper but Fontaine cuts that comeback off with a drop toe hold. Fontaine misses a guillotine leg drop and Kole finally gets the real comeback. Lariat, tilt-o-whirl backbreaker and a vertical suplex. Fontaine does a float over but Kole catches him with a belly to back suplex for the win. *1/4. Fontaine worked a really smart match here. He at no point went toe to toe with Kole unless he took a heel shortcut first. That's how you have to do this kind of match.

WINNER: Chris Kole

Claudio Castagnoli says he's a fighting champion. He issues an open challenge for the CAPW Title.

Bump N Ugles vs. Faith N Nothing

There should be a rule against both teams using an N like that. Bump B Uglies are two fat guys in these weird costumes. One will be called Fat and the other Fatter since I don't know their names. Big brawl to start and it becomes a standard tag forumla until the commercial break. We're back as things break down until a big brawl. Fatter hits a DDT on Faith and sends him to the outside. Rikishi Driver on Nothing. Faith comes back into the ring and tosses Fatter to the outside. Roaring elbow into a german suplex finishes this bout off. *3/4. Wow Fatter looked to be a good bumper and a decent worker overall. You wouldn't think that by looking at him. Ok enough tag team formula.

WINNERS: Faith N Nothing

Christopher Daniels says that he's coming to Cleveland and CAPW soon.

Main Event:
CAPW Tag Team Title Match:
Suplex Machines © vs. Unknown and ???

The Suplex Machines are two big guys called Jason Bane and Ray Rowe. Unknown's usual partner Virus was injured by the Machines earlier. The Machines attack and Rowe puts Unknown in the armbar that injured Virus. Virus runs to the back and comes back with ABYSS!!! Abyss cleans house on the Machines. Abyss has Unknown give him a high five. That's important later. Abyss press slams Unknown onto the Machines and we go to commercials. Hey more RoH ads. When the show comes back and Abyss cleans house some more on the Machines until missing the Avalanche in the corner. Abyss plays the face in peril until we go back to commercials. We're back and it's hot tag time. Bane catches Unknown with a t-bone suplex and Abyss gets back in the ring. Bane gets a chokeslam and Rowe gets the Blackhole Slam. Rocket Launcher gets the pin and the titles for the makeshift team. **1/4. Total formula match but it was pretty fun. Abyss playing Ricky Morton while a cruiserweight sat on the apron was interesting.

WINNER AND wait one moment.

A CAPW offical says that the match contract says Unknown and Virus so while they won the match they don't win the titles. Ah, the ole Dusty Finish. A lost art on the indy scene. Abyss asks for the high five again but gives Unknown the torture-rack backbreaker to end the show.

Next week:

JT Lightning and Chris Cronus vs. Faith N Nothing
Claudio Castagnoli will defend the CAPW Title
Christopher Daniels will be on the show and probably facing Castagnoli.

Overall:

This show was really a mixed bag.

The good points are that the announcing was good for the most part. Nothing too smarky and they were above average as far as announcers go. The production values were pretty good. Lots of wrestling and nothing was totally awful. Sometimes you'll watch indy wrestling and they can barely do the moves.

The bad is that they need to figure out how to do tv. These are just matches from their local shows. So all of the matches were longer and there were commercial breaks in each match. Plus with the longer matches there were barely any promos so it felt like there were no storylines. What they need to do quickly is start doing tv tapings. Quick 5 minute squashes and storylines are what they need. There's not a lot to keep people coming back every week this time around. I saw on the website that they're firing for production people so I'm guessing things will get better as time goes on.

I'll probably DVR this every week though.

Someone here seems out of place. Otherwise though, thats a killer lineup. 2 of the best wrestlers not only on the indies, but in the world, a decent up and coming tag team, a great up and coming singles guy in Richards, and...Buff Bagwell.

Add to that Southern Comfort, Alex Shelley, Nigel McGuinness, and Claudio Castagnoli, and you have a pretty kick-ass roster...

My guess is tonight's show is going to feature Claudio defending the title in a 3 way match against Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels.

CAPW Show #3

Hosts are Joe Dombrowski and Jamie Scott

Michael Cash is backstage with Claudio Castagnoli. He announces that he's defending the title against Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels tonight.

CAPW Tag Team Title Match:
Chris Cronus and JT Lightning w/ Krystal Frost vs. Faith N Nothing

The announcers try to explain how the SuplexMachines were stripped of the belts. If you ask me Abyss being illegal in last week's match shouldn't mean the champions should lose the belts. Oh well. Faith and Lightning start the fun off. They exchange blows and you can clearly see Faith not connecting on his kicks at all. Nothing and Cronus come in and Nothing dominates as we head to commercials. We're back as Faith catches Cronus with a kick and then levels him with a clothesline. Nothing tags in and dominates Cronus with a variety of moves. Things break down as Faith N Nothing hit a variety of double teams on both men. Frost comes in and they try to double team her but Cronus catches Nothing with a spear and Lightning nails Faith with a chair and gets the pinfall and the titles. 3/4*. That wasn't very good. Faith is really hit or miss. He looks really good on more complicated moves but is almost business exposing on simple things like kicks and elbows. It being a title match was also kind of confusing.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPS: Chris Cronus and JT Lightning

Michael Cash is backstage with Jason Bane. He says that CAPW always screws him out of his titles but that's ok because he's going for the CAPW Television Title next week.

30 Minute Iron Man Match: (Main Event)
CAPW Heavyweight Title Match:
Claudio Castagnoli © vs. Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels

Big mistake letting Daniels wear his NWA Tag Team Title belt as it makes the CAPW belt look like a child's toy. It's at least twice as big and it just looks a lot better. Something tells me this concept of match just won't work as a triple threat. They all start out trying to get a quick pinfall and confirm my fears that this isn't going to work at all. Danielson and Daniels spend most of their time double teaming Claudio. Claudio manages to clear out the ring and hits a dive to the outside as we hit the 5 minute mark. Commercials. We're back as Daniels and Danielson exchange pinfall attempts. Danielson spends the brunt of the next few minutes working over Claudio. At the 10 minute mark Claudio hits a delayed vertical suplex on Daniels. Daniels misses the BME and Claudio quickly tosses Danielson to the outside. Claudio turns a torture rack into a slam and gets the pinfall to make the score 1-0-0. Commercials. Things hit the 15 minute mark with double teaming on Daniels. Daniels fights them off but fails to secure a pinfall. Danielson completely dominates the match as we hit the 20 minute mark. Danielson submits Claudio with the Cattle Mutilation and it's 1-1-0. Commercials. Daniels hits the Angel's Wings with about 3 minutes left to tie it up at 1 all. It's a mad dash for someone to break the tie. Claudio gets a roll up to take a 2-1-1 lead with 20 seconds left and holds on to get the win. **1/2. This just didn't work as a match concept. Plus Claudio is not in the same league as Danielson and Daniels and he really took the match down a notch. This was just too contrived.

WINNER AND STILL CHAMP: Claudio Castagnoli

Next Week:

M-Dogg 20 vs. Johnny Gargano - this is going to suck
34 man battle royal to crown a new CAPW Television Champion

Overall:

The same issues as last week. Just taking matches off their shows isn't going to cut it as a tv show. There isn't enough continuity and matches getting broken up by more than one commercial break just doesn't cut it as a weekly thing. They need 5-6 minute squash matches to really make this work.
