I've been reading this board the past couple days and really like it. I don't know if you people are into Lucha Libre or not. I thought being the Lucha fanatic that i am, i would tell you what's going on these days in the big promotions: EMLL and AAA. EMLL: CMLL (FRI) 09/29 Arena Mexico Lineup 1) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Marcela vs Princesa Sujei, Hiroka, Amapola 2) Felino, Volador Jr., Sagrado vs Alex Koslov, Averno, Mephisto 3) Rey Bucanero, Blue Panther, Ultimo Dragon vs Marco Corelone, Kenzo Suzuki, Olimpico 4) Groon XXX, Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas vs Halloween, Damian 666, Mr. Aguila 5) Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Shocker, Hector Garza vs Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Tarzan Boy [CMLL TRIOS] 6) Mistico vs Black Warrior [mask] This is the big Anniversary show that always brings big crowds. I'll try to give you a background on each match 1) Lady Apache and Hiroka are feuding. Hiroka beat Apache this past Friday night in Arena mexico. There's an upcoming Hair match between these two. Dark Angel is Canadian wrestler Sarah Stock. 2) This is just filler. Averno and Mephisto are two of the best wrestlers in all of EMLL. Alex Koslov is a guy that has wrestled in PWG and other places. He's really good i heard. 3> Marco Corelone is Mark Jindrak of WCW/WWE fame. Corelone and Suzuki are evil Foriengers in Mexico along with Johnny Stamboli. Olympico is a mamger of GDA or Los Guerrero de Atlantida( Atlantis, Ultimo Guerrero, Tarzan Boy and Olympico) Rey Bucanero is a former member of GDA but since turning Technico, he's been feuding with them. Funny story, He wanted to go to AAA and probably would have been better for him but he got a big payday to turn Technico. 4) This is Halloween's big return match. You might remember Halloween from La Famlija Tijuana in XPW or Ciclope from WCW. Groon is the original Gronda who's a big steriod devil guy. Aguila, Damien and Halloween are members of in my opinion, the greatest wrestling group in lucha libre, Los Perros Del Mal. Halloween injured his Neck months ago. 5) This match is for the Vacant CMLL Trios titles. Perro Aguayo Jr., Hector Garza and Shocker are members of Los Perros Del Mal. Perro Aguayo is the leader. You might remember Shocker and Hector Garza from TNA. Shocker reacently jumped from AAA and probably won't be in TNA anymore. This is a Rudo vs Rudo match although Los Perros are over like MOFO's in arena mexico 6) This is the main match. The one that has been building for months. If you haven't seen Mistico, you are really missing out. He's this generations Rey Misterio Jr. I'd suggest geting his matches on youtube. Especially vs Averno and Perro Aguayo Jr. Well anyways, This feud started a couple months ago. Black Warrior and Mistico were tag team partners and going for the Tag titles held by Averno and Mephisto. To get the idea of how over Mistico is in mexico, think John Cena times 1000. Black Warrior started to get mad at how over Mistico is. So on March 3rd in Arena Mexico, Warrior turned on Mistico. This really raised Warrior into super Rudo. They had a series of matches. The first one was 3/31/06 in Arena Mexico which was won by Mistico. On 5/12/06, Black Warrior beat Mistico for the NWA Middleweight title. Black Warrior leads the series 4-3. This is a big match for Mistico. Volador is questionable for this show because he got injured badly Friday night. He landed wrong on his neck and went to the hospital. It looks like he's ok. I'll keep you noticed. AAA: AAA TV (SUN) 09/17 El Toreo de Cuatro Caminos Results [AAA] 1) Laredo Kid b Kaoma Jr. and El Apache [dream, toreno, final] 2) Cinthia Moreno, El Elegido, Mascara Sagrada, Pimpinela DQ La Diabolica, Mini Abismo Negro, Pirata Morgan, Polvo de Estrellas 3) AJ Styles, Homicide, Low-Ki, Samoa Joe DQ Abismo Negro, Charly Manson, Electroshock, Histeria [sf] 4) Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera, Psicosis II b Chessman, Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz [sf] 5) Tiffany, Estrellita DQ Tiana Ringer, Traci Brooks 6) Alan Stone, Hator, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Intocable, Oriental, Super Porky, Zorro 7) AJ Styles, Low-Ki, Samoa Joe b Crazy Boy, Joe Lider, Juventued Guerrera [final] 8) Gronda II, La Parka Jr., Octagon DQ Abyss, Jeff Jarrett, Konnan This was AAA's big "Verano de Escandalo" show. It was AAA vs TNA in a series of Tourney matches. I'll go by each match. 1) This was the finals of AAA's "Luchador Por un Sueno" tournament. Mexico loves these "por un sueno" shows or for a dream shows. It's kinda like Dancing with a stars but with a twist, The Celeberty is dancing with a casual person. The winner wins an operation or new house for their family member. Laredo Kid is really, really good. Since he won, he gets to get a main event push. 2) Mexico is known for these types of matches: Man/Woman/Tranny/Midget vs Man/Woman/Tranny/Midget matches. The Tranny's area called Exotico's in mexico. Pimpi is the best. Elegido is the new Latin Lover. Latin Lover is now mega over in mexico as a soap star/entertainer/Stripper. 3) This is the First AAA vs TNA match on the card. The mexican team are members of Los Vipers. You might know Negro and Manson from NOAH. 4) Crazy Boy and Joe Lider are wrestlers from Montereay. They watch a lot of CZW so that's the style they wrestler. Ultraviiolent crap. In the American Lucha Libre Smark community, they are hated. Along with Juvi and Psicosis(not the WWE one), they are The Mexican Powers. Cuervo, Ozz, Escoria and Chessman are part of La Secta. I'll get more into that group later. 5) Tiana replaced the injured Christy Hemme. Tiffany and Estrellita are feuding so you probably know how this match ended. Tiffany turned on Estrellita. 6) Hator is the new member of Los Guapos VIP. He replaced Shocker. This is basically a filler match. 7) You knew the TNA guys were going over i hope. 8) Gronda 2 is Antonio Pena's new version of the gimmick since he owns it. This was a match to build to an upcoming Jarrett/La Parka NWA title match. This is not the La Parka from WCW. The Main feud in AAA is the Battle of La Secta. Muerte Cibernetica( Ricky Banderas from IWA puerto Rico) is the new leader of La Secta. The Previous leader, Cibernetico was kicked out after getting injured. Cibernetico is like HHH in the states. He's got a lot of stroke backstage. Anyways, Chessman is with Cibernetico while the rest of La Secta is behind Cibernetica. This will lead to some intresting times ahead for La Secta and AAA. I hope this helped you some with Lucha Libre. Some good links: LuchaWiki.com: A good Wikipedia of everything Lucha Libre. Cubsfan.com: A good lucha Blog with up to date results and news. Later Tim |

I like how you're spelling it out for us gringos. I tried following it on Univision back in 2001 when WCW died, but couldn't get into Alberije and Chocky the evil midget. I'll watch it sometimes, late at night on the weekends. Lucha cracks me up, cuz' it's like the REAL version of the old MUSCLE Things, or a live-action cartoon. I like the goofy costumes and the fans. For years I've tried following the CubsFan's blog, but found it hard to digest for the casual fan like myself. I see some American-ized Lucha reports around the Web, but they seem to be too smarky and don't do a good job of telling the backstory. So, yeah.. I'm all in favor of hearing more of your Lucha reports. I caught a few minutes of it last night (was flipping between Lucha on Galavision, VH1's crappy "Heavy: the story of Metal", and the editted version of "Run Ronnie Run" on WGN). Two questions for ya' 1- If I watch Galavision's 3 hour Lucha Libre block on the weekends, is that the same show you'll be watching? 2- Aren't the Chibas characters (the guys in the goat masks) derived from a South American soccer team? 3- Are the KISS guy still around? Los Vatos Locos or whatever they were called. 4- What's the deal with the special fan sections in Lucha? For some reason, they'll have a section of seats, up top, with fans all dressed in red t-shirts or blowing bubbles. |

WWE is on Telemundo. Spanish version of Raw. You might get IWA PR on telemundo if you live down south. |

No CMLL though, huh? Spanish Raw is like 10 times more entertaining because the announcers seem to care more, even if I can't understand them. No IWA-PR, which I'm kind of happy about. |

CMLL moved to Spanish Fox Sports channel. Though it's the regular show and not the arena shows you used to get on Galavision. <_< |

Sorry, didn't see these. Two questions for ya'
Yes. I only watch the galavision show.
The Chivas are a popular Soccer team. There's a bastardized version in the MLS in America.
Los Vatos Locos are offically broken up. One of the guys, Espirtu joined La Secta and now brings a cross to ringside and licks it. Picudo is a singles wrestler now and is Antonio Pena's cousin.
Is this the same group that has the Polar Bear? I have no idea really. |

You're Tim Evans from DVDVR, right? Thanks for bringing the content man. I'm sure Mad Dog appreciates it as he's really the only one here that follows lucha on a regular basis. I'm trying to watch more. Downloading an Averno/Mephisto vs. Mistico/Negro Casas match now from earlier this year. Any good? |

I haven't followed as much. The Fox Sports version just throws matches together with no logic. You might get 2 falls from one match and it'll jump and you'll get the first fall from the next match. Highly frustrating though there was a pretty good Averno vs. Negro Casas match last week. |
