Ah, my mistake, Midwest must've aired later than usual that night.

In all seriousness, my bad.

NEW Saturday Night
October 14th 2006

Hey folks, I just got back from the NEW tv taping. It was fun, as always, with some fun stuff with J.R. Ryder before the show. He did an interview where it seemed he was trying out a religious freak gimmick. It got decent crowd reactions, so it'll be interesting to see if this character debuts on TV or not.

James Gibson defeated Doug Basham at 10:22 to retain the Boston Harbor Championship. This match was surprisingly awesome, with both men putting on a dazzling display of wrestling technique. Gibson eventually put Basham away with the Trailer Hitch. (88/84/91)

After the match, Gibson took a microphone and demanded some high profile opponents for his title defenses. Eric Bischoff came out and granted Gibson's wishes, making tonight's main event Chris Jericho vs. Rhino vs. Carlito vs. Rob Van Dam for a shot at the Boston Harbor Championship at Resistance.

In a really shocking segment, Sonny Siaki and Tommy Dreamer came out to the ring. Siaki went on a wild rant, complaining about how nobody thinks he is hardcore enough to hang with Rhino and Mick Foley in the upcoming street fight at Resistance. Siaki says that he may not be hardcore enough right now, but by October 27th, he sure as hell will be. Siaki then removes his shirt, leans against the ropes, and orders Dreamer to hit him with a kendo stick as hard as he can. Dreamer, while reluctant, grants the request and hits Siaki's back with a sickening crack. Siaki then takes the microphone, and requests "Thank you sir, may I have another." This goes on for a few minutes as Dreamer keeps cracking the kendo stick over Siaki's back, bloodying him up in the process. The crowd is clearly uncomfortable watching this. Afterwards Siaki takes the mic again and says "Okay, you sons of bitches... none of you will ever doubt my toughness again... Thank you, Tommy." (79%)

D'Lo Brown defeated Jushin Liger at 6:13 thanks to some botched interference by Tajiri. The match was kind of a let down, as they did not really click together like I hoped they would. Even though D'Lo won, he threw a fit after the match, angered by Tajiri's involvement. President Rowe then announced right there that this war between Tajiri and D'Lo has gone on long enough, and at Resistance, they will finally settle their score one on one. (79/77/81)

Backstage, Carlito and the PTL Invaders are hanging out. Carlito reminds the group to focus on their goal, to make NEW the promotion they all hoped that PTL would be. Carlito says that Rob Van Dam should be by their side, and not acting as Eric Bischoff's servant boy. Carlito says while it was he who betrayed NEW at Manchester Mayhem, RVD is the true traitor, and that he will kick RVD's ass at Resistance. (79%)

Kid Kash and America's Most Wanted defeated Ron Killings and the Dudley Boyz at 7:30. Kash picked up the win over Killings when he hit him in the head with the ring bell. The match itself was kind of plodding, with it only really picking up when Kash and Killings were the legal men. As it turns out, Kash will be facing Killings one on one at Resistance, and AMW will face the Dudleyz again, as the Dudleyz will be putting their spot at Clash of the Champions on the line. (77/78/76)

Backstage, Ron Killings is throwing things around in anger to what happened in his match just a few minutes ago. Eric Bischoff had security tackle Killings and remove him from the building. (87%)

Chris Sabin defeated Hardcore Holly at 3:56. The match was pretty lackluster, as Sabin dominated it. After the match, the PTL Invaders ran in and beat up Sabin. Matt Sydal played leader this time, and bloodied up Sabin with a fork. The PTL Invaders posed over the fallen Sabin until Johnny Devine, Brian Kendrick, and Jerrelle Clark ran out to make the save. (72/69/75)

Chris Jericho defeated Rob Van Dam, Carlito, and Rhino at 12:45 to become the #1 Contender to the Boston Harbor Championship. Both Rey Mysterio and Edge were on commentary during the match. Mysterio was keeping an eye on Jericho, while Edge was supporting RVD. Jericho ended up picking up the win by rolling up RVD after he ate a GORE from Rhino. After the match, JBL came through the crowd and attacked Rey Mysterio from behind. Edge stood by and watched as JBL ended up powerbombing Mysterio through the announce table to close the show. (89/91/86)

Next week:
Chris Hero, Matt Sydal, and Adam Pearce vs. Johnny Devine, Brian Kendrick, and Jerrelle Clark

James Gibson and D'Lo Brown vs. Jushin Liger and Tajiri

Rey Mysterio defends the NEW Championship against Edge

Overall: 82

"God's Gift to Wrestling" Christopher Daniels goes the commentators table and calls the NWA title match with Ross and Heenan once the tag team match finished. Daniels told Heenan he wants title an NWA shot at The Rock at The Harvest. Heenan said there's a good chance that the NWA title could change hands tonight. Daniels says he disagrees as he spoke with The Rock earlier about tonight's match. Heenan grant his request and says he can get an NWA title shot at The Harvest since he passed the opportunity Styles, but then had him face Ultimate Warrior in the Ultimate Challenge instead. So, the opportunity wasn't filled by either Daniels or AJ (Styles-)Daniels.

NWA Title Match
"Phenomenal" AJ Daniels def. The Rock © at 14:30 via Disqualification when The Rock low-blowed AJ and hit him with a steel chair in front of the referee. Afterwards, The Rock did the Rock Bottom on AJ onto the steel chair, and followed it with the People's Elbow. While The Rock grimaced at his work, Daniels walked in the ring and paid-off The Rock with a roll of cash.

We're #1
Lords of the Ring are backstage. They're challenging the Brits for the Tag Titles. They feel they've rightfully proven their worth and will put it all on the line tonight! (72)

Joey Styles hypes Clash of the Champions, and announce that Homicide has answered James Gibson's Boston Harbor Championship Challenge. He puts over the $100,000 Invitational which features Midwest's own CM Punk, Bobby Roode, Claudio Castagnoli, Ken Kennedy, and Matt Striker.

Speaking of Roode and Striker...

Interstate Title Tourney: Matt Striker vs. Bobby Roode
Roode tries to overpower Striker, but Striker is unwilling to give up. He's got pep, that Striker. Roode is getting agitated that Striker won't stay down, and Striker uses that to his advantage as Roode shoulder buts the ringpost, allowing Striker a roll up for the win
WINNER: Matt Striker (66/60/72)

Benoit's got no marbles!
Kurt Angle is backstage, and he's pissed. He says that Benoit has no marbles. Benoit needs to stop making excuses and start proving that he deserves the Midwest belt. He can start at Vendetta by facing Kurt one on one in a submission match. If he has the marbles. (100)

Lords of the Ring vs. The British Invasion
For the first time in weeks, the British Invasion show their faces. It's a heel vs. heel matchup, so the crowd doesn't really know how to handle it. The match goes back and forth until Jim E Cornette comes to ringside. Cornette distracts the British Invasion long enough for the Lords of the Ring to be attacked by the Naturals. The Brits get the win.
WINNERS: The British Invasion (75/71/80)

R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Terry Funk has one thing to tell Kennedy: He's earned Funk's respect. At Vendetta, they'll have a Texas Death Match. If Kennedy survives, he'll have more than Funk's respect. He'll have Funk's career. (78)

Interstate Title Tourney: Sterling James Keenan vs. B-Boy
B-Boy comes out with Homicide in tow. Sterling James Keenan looks focused. The two brawl pretty consistently, with Keenan getting lots of crowd support. Homicide isn't pleased about that. Homicide tries to give B-Boy an advantage by distracting the ref, but Keenan actually takes the advantage by low-blowing B-Boy, then hitting the Ricola Bomb for the win.
WINNER: Sterling James (62/48/76)

You're gonna find out...
Onyx is talking about Paul London, and how he's going to bury the great white hype next week. Good Stuff. (66)

CM Punk vs. Chris Benoit
The match starts out with a handshake offer from CM Punk. Benoit takes it, and then kicks Punk in the ribs. The two brawl, with Benoit taking the lead. The basic idea is that Benoit is the champ, and Punk isn't really ready to take on the champ. But Punk does make a decent comeback. Benoit gets the clean win.
WINNER: Chris Benoit (84/68/100)

After the match, Claudio Castagnoli comes out and applauds Punk.

Overall: 76

We got a 2.12 rating for 'NWA Midwest Sat. Night'!
The attendance level was 4424 people.
We made $132720 from ticket sales.
