NEW Saturday Night
October 28th 2006

I just got back from the NEW Saturday Night taping, held in Worcester, MA this week. I had a great time, as always, though I got to meet Danny Basham and Brian Kendrick after the show, both were real class acts.

Eric Bischoff came out to the ring for an interview. He was livid and ranted about how he has "lost control of NEW." He says tonight he will correct his mistakes, with his two biggest ones being that he has allowed PTL to flourish and that Rey Mysterio is still the NEW Champion. He vows to bring both mistakes to an end tonight. He makes a big ten man tag match for after the break, pitting the PTL team of Carlito, Adam Pearce, Matt Sydal, Kevin Steen, and Frankie Kazarian against Bischoff's hand chosen group of Rob Van Dam, Edge, America's Most Wanted, and his new bodyguard, Hardcore Holly! Also, tonight he has made a match for Rey Mysterio. He will defend the NEW Championship against a man who has been on a serious roll lately: Kid Kash. (79%)

Carlito, Adam Pearce, Matt Sydal, Kevin Steen, and Frankie Kazarian defeated Rob Van Dam, Edge, America's Most Wanted, and Hardcore Holly at 8:34 when Carlito rolled up Chris Harris for the victory. As soon as the match was over, Mid-Atlantic's Les Bohemians stormed the ring to beat down PTL! Bischoff's men backed off immediately, letting Les Bohemians do whatever they wished. Chris Masters beat down Carlito, trapping him in the Masterlock until he passed out. Chris Hero ran in to make a save, but Chavo Guerrero stopped him, and bloodied him with a chain. Meanwhile, Kevin Steen became the victim of Sugar Shane Helms and the Nightmare on Helms Street. Precious Lucy and Melina took turns slapping the taste out of Matt Sydal, who was held in place by Mikey Whipwreck. Meanwhile, Kazarian also became the victim to Chavo's chain. With PTL on the ground and out, Les Bohemians proceed to take out some paint and brushes. Melina writes "love" on the back of Carlito. Precious Lucy writes "truth" on the back of Kevin Steen. And finally, Shane Helms writes "beauty" on the back of Matt Sydal. Things do not look good for PTL heading into their big ten man tag against Les Bohemians at Clash of the Champions! (74/67/81)

Backstage, Rey Mysterio cut a promo talking about how much being the NEW Champion has meant to him. Mysterio says that even if he loses the title tonight, it will all have been worth it. Kid Kash comes in and gets in Mysterio's face. Kash tells him that he'll kick his worthless Mexican ass tonight, though Kash isn't looking forward to performing in front of an arena full of Mexicans tomorrow night at the Clash of the Champions. This sets Mysterio off, and they have a short brawl before they are seperated by agents. (79%)

Chris Jericho defeated D'Lo Brown by disqualification at 5:34 when James Gibson stormed into the ring and attacked Jericho. Gibson goes to ram Jericho's head into the ring post, when Jericho punches Gibson right in the balls. Gibson falls to the mat, and Jericho takes a steal chair and proceeds to beat the hell out of Gibson with it. Jericho finishes it with "good luck in your match at the Clash, bitch." and leaves Gibson in the ring as a bloody mess. (89/92/83)

Backstage, John Bradshaw Layfield rants about his loss to Rey Mysterio last night at Resistance. JBL says it was the worst night of his entire career, one that he will not stand for. However, JBL says it is high time he got his priorities back together. His intentions will become clear before the night is over. (76%)

The Basham Brothers defeated Brian Kendrick and Jerrelle Clark at 7:23 when JBL interferred! This lead to a three on two beat-down. JBL's intentions are absolutely clear now: JBL is putting The Cabinet back together! It looks like JBL is strengthening himself for another run at the NEW Championship! (73/58/89)

Rey Mysterio defeated Kid Kash to retain the NEW World Championship at 14:23! There were distractions during the match because both Ron Killings and Chris Jericho were on commentary. They didn't get involved until after the match, fortunately, as Mysterio cleanly defeated Kash with the West Coast Pop. Afterwards, Killings attacked Kash, but Rene Dupree ran in for the save. Elsewhere, Jericho attacked Mysterio with the same, blood stained steel chair that he used to take out Gibson earlier tonight. Jericho connects with the chair on Mysterio, and stands over him. Tomorrow night, it will be Jericho vs. Mysterio for the title at the Clash of the Champions! (89/84/95)

And that's a wrap! The Clash of the Champions should be an awesome show! Here's the NEW portion of the card:

Quote:

NWA World Heavyweight Championship:
The Rock © vs. El Hijo Del Santo

NEW World Championship:
Rey Mysterio © vs. Chris Jericho

Boston Harbor Championship:
James Gibson © vs. Homicide (Midwest) vs. Jay Lethal (Mid-Atlantic)

The Dudley Boyz vs. British Invasion vs. La Parkas vs. The Daniels Brothers

Pushing the Limits vs. Les Bohemians

Rhino, Mick Foley, Sonny Siaki, Chris Hero, and Chris Sabin will participate in the invitational battle royal.

:Kevin Nash grabs the mic.:

Nash: Hey, Bohemians! I’ve brawled in bars. I’ve brawled in the ring. I’ve brawled in parking lots, high schools, frat houses, the prom, at home – it doesn’t matter where we brawl. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall are all about brawling! Chavo Guerrero, Shane Helms, you want to brawl on your stage, then we’re all about it. A brawl is a brawl is a brawl. He’ll see you on Samhain.

Hall: You bring the tricks, we’ll bring the sweets. Because when you’re The Outsiders., you’re just…

Nash and Hall: Toooooo Sweeeeeeeet!

Mid-Atlantic Title Match
Ric Flair def. John Cena at 10:09 when Cena ripped the turnbuckle padding on one of the corners of the ring. Refereee Mike Chioda went to make-shift the padding when Cena whipped Flair into the same corner where Chioda was. 90/99/70

Randy Orton celebrates with Flair in his title defense. Heenan is going off on the mic saying that Flair is going to leave with the M-A belt back to NEW. The M-A still has chance at Clash of the Champions PPV– where Flair is going to defend in a Four-Way match against Christian Cage, Kane, and John Cena deserves a rematch. If not, they’ll get the belt off of Flair at The Harvest supershow.

Just then, Orton stares of the Mid-Atlantic title belt in Flair’s hands. Flair raises his hands working the crowd. Orton’s face turns to disgust as he grabs Flair’s arm and points to the belt. Flair nods and works the crowd some more. Orton spins Flair around and put him in the RKO! Mid-Atlantic champion Ric Flair is down!

Heenan: Yes! Yes! The Legend Killer is back!

Shocker d. Super Dragon
Shocker gets a wristlock and spins for a drop toe hold. Shocker grabs a headlock. Super Dragon escapes with elbows and hits a handspring elbow smash to take the first fall. Shocker levels Dragon with a clothesline and poses for the crowd. He rolls Dragon up for the second fall. Shocker hits a shoulder tackle off the top rope to win the match. ***1/4 78/73/83

Fast Eddie d. Pegasso
This was an exciting back and forth match that saw Eddie win the first fall with a powerbomb. Pegasso came back and won the second fall with an armbar. Eddie stole the match after a low blow and a roll up. ***1/4 62/31/93

This was a back and forth technical match. The end came when Manson missed a moonsault and Dorado rolled him up for the three count. **** 82/74/91

Jerry Lynn & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jimmy Jacobs & CM Punk
Lynn and Castagnoli work well together, and take Punk and Jacobs on a ride. Punk isn't happy with Jimmy, who keeps backing off every time Jerry Lynn complains. Punk derides Jimmy, and Claudio rolls Punk up for the win
WINNER: Claudio and Jerry Lynn

Once you go black....
The New Interstate Champion Onyx makes his way to the ring. The crowd boos him. He holds the belt up and asks the crowd how they feel to have a black man as the Interstate Champion. The crowd doesn't know how to respond. Onyx says that's typical. He knows how white people feel about black men. They're scared. And that's why everyone is booing. Not because Onyx doesn't deserve the belt. He won it fair and square. He won a tournament. In four rounds he bested all of the great white hype. That's got nothing to do with it. White people boo Onyx for the same reason that white women clutch their purses tighter when he walks by. That's right, he sees that. He knows that every white man wants him to like Fried Chicken, Watermelon, and Grits. But it's ok. Sooner or later everyone will learn to respect him. And you know what they say. Once you go black....

Lords of the Ring vs. The Briscoe Brothers
LOTR are still rattled after their loss to the Naturals. They take the Briscoe's for granted until the Briscoe's start beating the crap out of them. They took the Briscoe's for granted, the Briscoe's take the win.
WINNERS: The Briscoe Brothers

We're issuing an open challenge...
Jim E Cornette is backstage with The New Breed. (The Naturals and Paul London) He says that they are going to issue and open challenge. Whoever wants the tag titles can get their shot at Full Throttle November 26th. Just claim it.

William Regal vs. Chad Collyer
Both men requested a match. Both men are angry at each other. Collyer shows a fire not seen from him in recent times. Regal is in full cheat mode, and it just makes Collyer more angry. Regal picks up the win with "vintage Regal" style, using the knucks after feining the use of a chair.
WINNER: William Regal

Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey.. Good Riddance
Terry Funk makes his way to the ring. He solemnly grabs the mic. The crowd stands to their feet chanting "Terry! Terry!" He thanks the fans. He thanks all his fans over the years. He made a promise a few weeks ago that if he lost his match with Ken Kennedy at Vendetta, he would hang up his boots. Well, he lost. And he'll be damned if he's anything but a man of his word. So tonight, he's retiring. The fans begin to chant "Please don't go!" That's when Ken Kennedy makes his way out. He tells the fans that he's not about to let their stupid sentimentality get in between what he's been waiting months for. So he tells Funk to get out of the ring and get out of NWA Midwest. He starts singing the "Na Na Na Na" song. Funk tells the fans that it's just what he promised he'd do, and he leaves with his head held high.

That's what I call a rabid wolverine!
Kurt Angle is backstage. He tells us that the Benoit he saw at Vendetta was a lot like the Chris Benoit of old. It has Angle energized. And after Clash of Champions, Angle wants that Benoit all to himself. (OMG GAY!)

Raven & Batista vs. Abyss & Sabu
Mitchell leads Abyss and Sabu TOGETHER. The announcers put over that Batista will be facing Benoit next Sunday at the Clash of the Champions on PPV for the Midwest Title. They also talk about Saturn's entry into Midwest last week, taking on Raven. Ironically, during the match Saturn comes out and distracts Raven, leaving Batista to take on Abyss & Sabu together. It looks dire, but Abyss and Sabu have communication breakdown, baby, and Batista pins Abyss for the win
WINNER: Batista
Scrooge McSuck
