No Leaf Clover
January 12th 2007

Show opens with a video package set to "Shut Me Up" by Mindless Self Indulgence. The song basically goes "I can't wait for you to shut me up, in a fucking minute" and flashes to shots of The Rock, JBL, and Steve Corino. Seems fitting, considering the big mouths on the participants of tonight's triple threat main event.

President Rowe and Professor Plague welcome us to the first NEW pay-per-view of 2007. They are extremely excited about tonight's show, especially the main event and the Boston Harbor title matches.

Best of Seven Series, match three:
Steel Cage match:
Frankie Kazarian (2,0) vs. Matt Sydal (0,2)

This is actually the first cage match in NEW history. Neat, eh? Anyways, this match was made into a steel cage match so that Carlito and Chris Hero could not interfere. The winner of this series gets a job with NEW. Kazarian and Sydal put on a good match, though not up to the usual main event level that cage matches are used for. They bloody each other by flapjacking and throwing each other into the cage. Sydal bleeds quite heavily after Sydal continually grates his face against the unforgiving steel. The match picks up as Sydal gets the chance to escape, but is so disgusted with Kazarian that he hits a corkscrew plancha off the cage, connecting perfectly on Kazarian. This allows the door to be opened, and Sydal gets the win!
Winner: Matt Sydal @ 11:17 (77/72/83)

After the match, Kazarian's buddy, Chris Hero, runs in for a revenge attack on Sydal, which brings out Carlito, and that leads us to...

Chris Hero vs. Carlito
Chris Hero was fired from NEW after the PTL stable lost an elimination match at Methodical Madness. Hero came back anyways, angry that the PTL leader, Carlito, was able to keep his job since he didn't participate in the match. The winner of this match gets Carlito's contract. The match turns out to be excellent, as these two mesh really well together, even though the crowd was not feeling it. Carlito was able to hit several off the ropes moves without botching any. Hero kept up well too, but he fell victim to an inverted neckbreaker and Carlito was able to pick up the victory and keep his job!
Winner: Carlito @ 9:01 (81/68/94)

30 Minute Iron Man match:
Ric Flair vs. Mick Foley

What moron booked these two in an Iron Man match? Anyways, if Foley wins this, Flair must agree to facing him in a Hell in a Cell match. The match itself is not very good, to say the least, but the crowd is extremely into it. Foley gets the first win of the match because Flair's buddies, Sonny Siaki and Tommy Dreamer, run in and attack him, giving Foley a dq victory at 10:25. Siaki and Dreamer are thrown out of the arena, but Dreamer managed to get in some kendo stick shots. Hurt from the attack, Flair targets the legs of Foley, and traps him in the figure four. Foley refuses to tap out, but accidently leaves his shoulders on the mat long enough for Flair to get a pinfall victory at 15:45. They continue to slug it out for a while, and end up brawling at ringside. They manage to slam each other into the steel steps multiple times, busting Flair open in the process. The match continues on as a brawl until finally, Foley gets Mr. Socko and the mandible claw on Flair, and gains a submission victory at 29:45. With 15 seconds left, the time expires, and Foley is declared the winner!
Winner: Mick Foley @ 30:00 (82/90/66)

Samoa Joe vs. Orlando Jordan
The first Cabinet vs. CSW match of the night! And it is a real doozy. Joe aggressively attacks Jordan, slamming him hard to the mat. Joe then launches Jordan into the corner and does his running kick spot. Jordan slumps through the ropes, onto the floor. Joe sets up Jordan in a chair in the corner and debuts his "ole, ole" kick spot. The crowd is loving this. Jordan is dead, and Joe drags him back into the ring, hits the Muscle buster, and picks up the win.
Winner: Samoa Joe @ 1:59 81/81/82

After the match, Austin Aries and Roderick Strong run in, and take turns beating on Jordan, as Joe takes a microphone. Joe demands that Alex Shelley, the turncoat who betrayed them to join the Cabinet, come out here and get his ass kicked. Instead, the Basham Brothers come out and the NEW Tag Team Championship match begins!

NEW Tag Team Championship:
The Basham Brothers © vs. Austin Aries and Roderick Strong

This is a solid tag team contest, as the Bashams try to keep a slow pace, but are thrown off by the knife edge chops from Strong. Aries and Strong continually stiff the Bashams throughout the match, as they are quite pissed that Alex Shelley isn't out here. The Bashams pull the old switcheroo, and surprise Aries at one point, leading to an extended heat segment. The Bashams use every rest hold in the book to keep Aries from making a tag. Eventually, Strong gets the hot tag and cleans house with a series of awesome modified back breakers. In the mix, the ref takes a bump. This allows Alex Shelley to run in through the crowd and hit Strong with a chair. Joe chases Shelley out of the arena, but the damage is done. The referee wakes up in time to give the pinfall victory to Doug Basham over Strong.
Winners and still NEW Tag Team Champions: The Basham Brothers @ 10:45 (82/78/86)

Boston Harbor Championship:
James Gibson © vs. Chris Jericho vs. Petey Williams

Wait, two triple threat matches in one show? This really was a throwaway event, wasn't it? The match turns out to be pretty good, though not as awesome as the bookers expected it to be. All three men are equally pissed off with one another, so there are no alliances in the early going, just a straight out three way fight. Williams is a heel, but gets a face reaction every time he goes for the Canadian Destroyer, though his first few attempts to hit the move on both Jericho and Gibson fail. Jericho becomes dominant for quite a while, focusing on the ribs of Gibson (which he injured at Starrcade) and throwing Williams over the ropes on numerous occasions. Williams finally gets the big pop of the night by hitting the Destroyer on Jericho, but then Gibson slips back to his feet, suplexes Williams, and traps in the trailer hitch. Williams taps out, allowing Gibson to retain the title!
Winner and still Boston Harbor Champion: James Gibson @ 15:12 (87/88/88)

Rob Van Dam vs. Edge

The tension between these two had been building for months. They were both henchmen for Eric Bischoff, but RVD grew tired of working for "the man." Edge continues to be loyal to Bischoff because Edge wants title opportunities. Anyhow, this is the usual wonderful match between these two, as they fight all over the ring, ringside area, and even in the crowd briefly. RVD hits a cool leg drop off of the barricade at ringside. Edge gets a bit nasty, and lifts up some padding at ringside, exposing the concrete floor. Edge manages to hit a vertical suplex on RVD right onto the concrete. This nearly gains Edge a countout victory, but RVD makes it into the ring. They continue to fight for a bit, until Bischoff's body guard, Hardcore Holly runs in and leaps up on the apron. The referee is distracted trying to get rid of Holly, and then Edge's brother and Mid-Atlantic star, Christian Cage, runs in and hits the unprettier on RVD! This is a swerve, since Edge and Christian were enemies in NEW and it was Edge who defeated Christian in a "loser leaves NEW" match all the way back at the Great American Bash! Anyhow, Edge gets the victory as Holly backs off, freeing up the referee.
Winner: Edge @ 13:46 (90/89/91)

NEW World Championship:
John Bradshaw Layfield © vs. Steve Corino vs. The Rock

Both Rock and Corino have bones to pick with JBL. JBL and the Cabinet destroyed Rock's leg back in November, putting him on the shelf briefly. And just a few days ago at Starrcade, JBL defeated Corino to take the CSW Championship and unify it with the NEW title. Corino is disgusted with himself for letting the fate of the CSW belt go to JBL. The crowd is unbelievably hot for this match, as this turns out to be a straight up brawl. Rock and Corino team up in the early goings to double team JBL and hit a series of double suplexes, double DDT's, and even a doomsday device. The problem rises when neither man will let the other cover him, and Corino and Rock begin to exchange punches. JBL hides from the match at ringside for a rediculous ten minute period, meanwhile Corino and Rock put on a good power contest, hitting spine busters, suplexes, etc. Rock positions Corino for the People's Elbow, but Corino leaps up and hits the Old School Expulsion. Corino goes for the cover, but JBL makes his return, hits the Clothesline from Hell, and covers Corino for the victory!
Winner and still NEW Champion: JBL @ 17:56 93/98/82

JBL celebrates his title defense on the stage, surrounded by the Bashams, Orlando Jordan, and Alex Shelley. Corino and Rock stay in the ring, frustrated with how the match went down.

I read it. I really like that Sydal & Kazarian are doing a best of seven for something other than a title, and that Carlito & Hero fought for the same reason. It makes it seem like being a NEW Superstar is important.

I'm not sure if I like the Foley-Flair match, but I don't like 30 minute Iron Man matches in particular.

I like the Cabinet vs. CSW feud, and that Christian made a surprise run in.

I'm a little disappointed that Gibson didn't get the win, but in a good way.

And man, I love the JBL-Rock-Corino match. It's great heelish antics.

Whoooo, feedback! Thanks, Swiggy, it's good to have an idea of what I'm doing right or wrong.

Oh, and Gibson did get the win :). I think you meant to suggest you wanted him to lose.
