Who did Derek Jeter payoff to win a Gold Glove?

Or who did Minka Kelly sleep with for him to win?

This isn't 1996 or 2005 anymore, Derek Jeter has severly lmited range

Tex and Cano absolutely deserve their Gold Gloves

It's been a while since I got too worked up over the Gold Glove award selections. It comes down to two things.

1. People who deserve it finally got it (example: Carl Crawford)
2. People who don't that keep getting it every year for no other reason than because of past familiarity (example: Jeter)

Oh, and no one will ever NOT deserve an award compared to the time Rafael Palmiero won it for first base in a year in which he played, like, 30 games at the position all season.

I need to look up his exact fielding stats, but I was VERY surprised that Troy Tulowitzki (errrr...."Tulowitski" as he's known in Denver) won a Gold Glove at short. Silver Slugger, definitely...but it seemed like every game I saw at Coors Field this season had an "E6" on the scorecard. And I went to about 10-12 games.

Carlos Gonzalez seems like a good pick, though. People were so busy gushing over his offensive stats that we kinda' forgot that he had a good defensive year, as well.

Pretty good role call of Rockies with a Gold Glove (5 in all): Todd Helton, Neifi Perez, Tulowitzki, Gonzalez and some Dickhead Who Won 5 GG's While Pulling Himself From Games Because of Lame Shit Like a Toothache.

That's the nature of sports --professional and college-- assistants on winning teams get scooped up by crappy teams.

Hurdle reportedly chose the Pirates over the Mets. Aside from the obvious reasons, his daughter has Prader-Willi Syndrome and one of the best hospitals for treatment is in Pittsburgh.

So here we go with the Season Awards:

NL Rookie of the year:
Buster Posey, C, Giants

AL Rookie of the year:
Neftali Feliz, RP, Rangers

I'm a little surprised that Posey won. If the season had been played in reverse, Jason Heyward would've been the overwhelming choice.

And hey, trivia time: who was the most recent SF Giant to win the ROY?

That'd be John Montefusco in 1975, of course!

Roy Halladay picks up the NL Cy Young. Adam Wainwright finished a much distant second, and Ubaldo Jimenez third. Mid-season, I thought Jimenez was the odds on favorite, but a weak second half ruined that one.

The Marlins continue working the market. After trading Maybin for a bunch of relief pitchers, they've trade Uggla to Atlanta, probably because he thinks he's worth more than 12 mil. a year he was offered by Florida, for Omar Infante. Oh, and they signed John Buck because all of their catchers are hurt or are cheaters.

Finishing behind Halladay is nothing to be ashamed of. Too bad Jimenez faltered in the second half. But either way it's a huge accomplishment that a Rockies pitcher finished third in the Cy Young.

Wouldn't be shocked if he finishes in the top tier again, next year. The Rockies probably have about three more years with the "O's" playing together (Tulo, CarGo and Ubaldo). Right now, it looks like all three will help each other land in the MVP or Cy Young races.

Oh, and another cock-punch to that asshole Al Hrabosky. He was babbling for the last 6 months how Wainwright was a clear favorite to the win the Cy Young and nobody else was even in contention. Oh, and give Pujols the MVP while you're at it. And LaRussa the Manager of the Year and John Jay the ROY... I think you see the pattern.

Felix Hernandez is named AL Cy Young. Somewhat shocked, because a lot of people are obsessed with wins/losses. His record of 13-12 doesn't say how dominating he was in every category of importance. An ERA of just over 2.00, second in the league in strikesouts (would've been first probably, but he was shut down for a few starts in September), lead the league in innings (almost 250), and barely allowed 1 base-runner per inning. His downfall came from some of the worst run support in recent history. Despite posting an ERA of about 1.50 for the second half of the season, that translated to a 6-7 record.

The homer in me wanted David Price to win, and it would've been deserved, but I'm glad a pitchers abilities were weighed more than just on how many wins he had.

I'm not a fan of Felix winning the Cy Young. If it's all about "ability" and coulda/shoulda/woulda, then let's give the NL Cy Young to Evan Meek. An ERA that only went above 2.15 in the final month, great rate with stranding inheritted runners and he played on a team that lost 105 games. Heck, put him on a winning team and he's Trevor Hoffman in 1998 or Eric Gagne in 2002.

Joey Votto wins the NL MVP with 31 of 32 1st place votes. Not TOO surprised there, but at the same time, I was expecting Pujols to take it, for whatever reason.

Kinda' figured Votto would take it. A guy on a "new" division leader putting up big numbers is always a good choice.
