Hey now..the fans made it clear during the introductions that they did NOT want to see A-rod. Suck on that, AL fans!!

Wouldn't have hurt to at least have him pinch-run for Big Sloppi in the 9th. If A-Rod's on first, there's no way Marlon Byrd throws him out at second.

Oh, and completely un-related to the All-Star Game, but I just saw that Boone Logan was sent down to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 2. I only note these things because I've apparently been tasked within my "family" of providing Logan updates to everybody. I don't mind, but it commonly goes like this: "how's Booner doin'?" "I dunno'... ask E. He knows that stuff!"

To be fair to Ortiz, on first instinct, I thought Byrd was going to catch the ball, so I can understand Ortiz being caught off guard between 1st and 2nd. Still, why did Girardi not hold back ONE player with decent speed for a situation like this, to possibly steal second instead of hoping for a few hits.

True. I've been nailed between 1st and 2nd on just about every flyball in "MLB: The Show" for the same reason!

As background noise, I put on MLB Network's replay of the 2000 All-Star Game while I worked, today. After listening to a little bit of it, I have to say that I may hate Bob Costas more than Tim McCarver. I kinda' want to punch him in the face.

Throughout the game, Costas kept comparing EVERYTHING to his precious Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. Then he kept referring to "little league baseball and all the youngsters" and talking about its "purity" as if it was fantasyland.

Bob...have you ever BEEN to a Little League game in the last 25 years? They're pretty much the most miserable place around. Parents constantly yelling and arguing because they think their kid is the next Albert Pujols. All the while, the kids just kinda' wander around and do what the loudmouth adults tell 'em to. "Swing, Benji!" "Now RUN!" "No, stay put Benji!" "Catch the ball Benji! Charge it!!"

Bob Costas has a good vocal delivery and is a relatively smart guy. But he gets on his high horse too much and tries to paint these Wonderland fantasies of how sports used to b so pure and innocent, until the MODERN AGE came along. The same modern age that's giving you a paycheck you fucking douche.

Since you mentioned the 2000 ASG, how many of the players from that particular game have been acused of or have proven to have been on the juice?

..pretty much everybody, with the exception of Don Zimmer.

In another Newly Discovered Cool Thing, MLB offered a 10-day free trial of MLB.TV if you voted in the "Final Man" stuff. Okay, so three of those days were the All-Star break, but I still got to mess with the archive function and watched Ubaldo Jimenez's no-hitter. But better than sitting at your computer, you can synch it to a PS3 (I imagine Wii and Xbox have a similar function) and watch it all on your "real" TV.

Pretty cool interface, as you can scroll through the calendar and check current standings. I didn't see a way to sort by team, but I'm sure it's either hidden somewhere or else it's coming soon.

I didn't get MLB Extra Innings this year, but if I ever decide to do that again, I'm going with MLB.TV instead.

In a "only a Rays fan cares" news break, Rocco Baldelli is trying to make another comeback, signing a Minor League Deal with the Rays today. He's currently on assignment in Port Charlotte with the Stone Crabs, so maybe I might get a chance and see him this week. :)

I saw that blurb, yesterday and thought: "hey, I liked ol' Rocco. Wonder if Scrooge cares..should I post something about this?" But then I saw a bunny and got distracted.

Yeah, I've always liked Baldelli. What happened that he stopped being the future of the Rays. Did he get hurt or something? Did ESPN just like saying Baldelli or something?

On top of being severely injury prone from 2005-2007, he was later diagnosed with some disease that causes fatigue from even the simplest work outs.

I was all over supporting Rocco as the 2003 Rookie of the Year, back in the day. Because we all know how much of an impact Angel Berroa had....

The Bucs' Pedro Alvarez had his first career grandslam, last night. Part of 9 run 1st inning...in a game that the Pirates had to scramble to win. Alvarez seems to have gotten more patient at the plate, and I now want to add him to my "get his autograph on a sweet spot ball" list when he comes to Denver, next week. I figure it'll AT LEAST be as desirable as my Zach Duke, Neil Walker or Tom Gorzellany sweet spot balls. And no, I never got a Chad Hermansen ball.

The Rays pick up a victory on the road, beating Cleveland tonight.

I only mention this because the last time the Rays won in Cleveland, they were still Devils, Lou Pinella was our manager, and the only player still with the current team from that roster is Carl Crawford.

Matt Garza tossed the 1st no-hitter in Rays history tonight. 5th no hitter in the majors this season (6 unoffical), and 3 involved the Rays.

How about the Twins going for five straight games having 14+ hits? First time since 1924 they've done that. Delmon Young is all I can say. Mauer has come around since the break, too, which I had a feeling was going to happen anyways.

The Twins...who now have Matt "I swear I'm in my 20's, even though I look like I'm 38" Capps in their bullpen.

Other deals of note:

-Miguel Tejada moves to the San Diego Padres

-Roy Oswalt goes to the Philles

-Jake Westbrook goes to St. Louis

-Ted Lilly and Ryan Theriot go to the LA Dodgers, while Blake DeWitt goes to the Cubs

-Jorge Cantu goes to the Texas Rangers

-And in a move that will no doubt affect the landscape of baseball as we know it: the Pirates get Chris Snyder from the D-backs for Ryan Church, Bobby Crosby and DJ Carasco.
