High strikeout ratio and he has a no-hitter on his resume (when he walked something like 9 or 10 guys). Also helped that the Red Sox wanted to sign him prior to 2009 and the Yankees just Could Not Have That!

I knew the Vazquez deal was going to be a bad idea. I know New York only lost Melky Cabrera for it, but damn, he made his 2004 run with the team look like a Cy Young season compared to this year.

I haven't understood the New York philosophy towards their pitchers for awhile now. Joba and Hughes are good examples of this. They found really good niches where they were amazing. And the Yankee management just jerked them around until they were next to useless.

Hughes has been doing pretty good this year, with the occasional rough patch. Joba, on the otherhand... completely fucked and jerked around.

Stupid ass "Joba" rules.

I think the team is going to need to move some guys around next year. They need to figure the pitching staff out. Posada needs to go, Jeter probably needs to go. Ganderson was a bad idea.

I was 14 the last time the Reds went to the playoffs. It's been too long a wait.

While I'm not that into the National League teams, it's nice to see a team like the Reds finally get that monkey of their backs and make it to the playoffs. Looking at the potential teams reaching the NL side of things, if the Braves don't make it in, I'll pull for the Reds until the Rays (or Yankees... sorry) win the World Series.

I'm stoked about the Reds. I'm still trying to figure out what Dusty Baker suddenly did and why he hasn't done it in the past

I'm chalking it up to they won despite Dusty Baker and his incompetence. I think this team won because Scott Rolen and Jonny Gomes led this team as players. IMO, they policed the team and kept everyone in line and kept the bad habits from creeping in.

I think the team also owes a lot to Jay Bruce, Johnny Cueto and a lot of other players really coming to the table this year.

Hey now..the Vazquez deal also netted them Boone Logan!

Strangely enough, it seems that the New York fans have been chanted for Boone a LOT, lately :)

I'd like to see Reds-Yankees in the World Series, this year. Something like Rays-Giants scares the hell out of me.

Well look at it this way. You're paying Derek Jeter 23 million to hit .266 and be a below average defensive outfielder. So A.J. looks like a bargain after that.

I dont love Derek Jeter as much as most Yankees fan do (of which I am a diehard), but the man is a winner and the face of the franchise

He is having a crapp year I agree, but last year he did have a very strong year

Should be interesting to see how much they pay him when his contract expires. The stupid thing is they will probably pay him $15-$20 million a year for past performance (and because he is the face of the franchise)when in reality he should get half that.

If I were the Yankees, I would offer him 20 million to retire and give him a front office job after this season.

I disagree about Granderson. It was a very good idea, that just hasn't panned out.

Posada at the time they resigned him I thought it was a bad idea as catchers in their late 30s always tail off and/or get hurt

I agree 100%

It wasn't so much what they gave up for Vasquez, it's just that they guy bombed in 2004, why would you want him a second time?

And to those who mention Joba Chamberlain

I realize starting pitchers are worth more to a team and that Rivera has defied time and is still an elite closer. But after the 2007 season, they should have kept Joba as a reliever, had him as the setup man until Rivera retired

Yes the Joba Rules and jerking him around has probably ruined him
