I think the team is going to need to move some guys around next year.  They need to figure the pitching staff out.  Posada needs to go, Jeter probably needs to go.  Ganderson was a bad idea.

I disagree about Granderson. It was a very good idea, that just hasn't panned out.

Posada at the time they resigned him I thought it was a bad idea as catchers in their late 30s always tail off and/or get hurt

Posada is embarassing to watch behind the plates at times now.

Posada is embarassing to watch behind the plates at times now.

He has always sucked as a defensive catcher.

But he was always in the Top 3 hitting catchers (when he was younger Piazza and Ivan Rodriguez were better and now Joe Mauer is)

And he's a switch hitter which for catchers is rare

I just thought it was dumb to sign a 35 year old catcher to a 4 year contract of over $10 million a year (at least I think that is what it was)

Then again I thought it was dumb to do that for Mariano Rivera also and he's still as great as ever at 40+

The thing with Rivera is that when he falls apart, it's going to be epic.

Hopefully Mo retires on top of the mountain, but we all know that's not going to happen. It rarely does for relief pitchers.

As for Jorge, I still think he's in the upper-half in terms of production of all catchers with regular playing time. He has a decent average, hits for power, drives in runs, and calls a decent game. His downside is not being able to throw out runners and working with A.J. Burnett.

He's the best reliever of all time IMO, so when he falls he has a long way to go down.

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- Justin Morneau, who has been out since July 7 because of a concussion, will work out with the Minnesota Twins on Thursday at Target Field, leading to optimism he 'might' be available sometime in the team's planned playoff run.

Manager Ron Gardenhire called it 'absolutely' the most encouraging news the Twins have received on Morneau in weeks. He didn't give any indication of the first baseman's status for the postseason, asking everyone to wait and see how the workout goes.

"He had a really good day again today," Gardenhire said Wednesday before a game against the Kansas City Royals. "That's four days in a row. He'll be on the field working out with us tomorrow, a full workout, taking ground balls and BP (batting practice).

"We'll have to see how that goes. We'll have to see what the doctors report. He's going to work out with us tomorrow. Let's see what happens. No expectations."

Morneau was injured when he was accidentally kneed in the head by Toronto Blue Jays infielder John McDonald while sliding into second base to break up a double play. Morneau walked off the field without assistance, but did not return to first base in the bottom of the inning.

"This is probably as good as we've heard," Gardenhire said. "It's really, really positive stuff. Get him healthy. That's all we are asking for."

Gardenhire hedged on questions of whether Morneau would be available to play Tuesday, when the playoffs begin. He did not seem optimistic.

"Does it make a difference if he's here with us?" Gardenhire asked. "It's obvious, goodness gracious. If you had Justin Morneau in your lineup it would be wonderful. He hasn't played in two-and-a-half months and all of a sudden in five days here he's news?

"I just want to see him take ground balls and hit. That's all we're talking about here. He hasn't been on the baseball field for two months and we've got four days left in the baseball season. Just let him go out on the baseball field. It's a positive. He's feeling good."

Morneau, the 2006 AL MVP, is hitting .345 with 18 home runs, 25 doubles and 56 RBIs in 81 games.
-----------------------------------------------------------

THIS is some very encouraging news! They talked about it for a bit during last night's Twins game. Cuddeyer has been great at first and Kubel has been pretty good taking Cuddy's spot in right, but who wouldn't want Justin's bat behind the plate again?

Hell, if nothing else, hopefully, he doesn't have any long term repercussions from that hit in the head. Ironic that our final four games are against Toronto. Liner to McDonald's cup? ;-)

Common joke: but you never see Justin Morneau and John Cena in the same place at the same time.

This says all you need to know about Colorado Rockies "fans":

I suppose this could be one of those "FAIL" pictures.

Some broad went out and spent 80 bucks to get a custom jersey of her favorite Rockies player. It replaces her old Tod Heltun jersey and hangs in the closet next to the jerseys of her other favorite Denver players: John Elwae and Patrick Wah.

Yipes. Just yipes. Maybe this is a Rockies thing, like when Jay Payton was in the dugout wearing Chris Ianetta's jersey.

Or maybe she got it from the same people that supplied the Washington Natinals jerseys last year.

I can't believe I'm cheering for the Red Sox to beat the Yanks this weekend.

As I type that, Mike Lowell with a run-double in what's probably his last day before retirement.

I'm officially (hush!) a puss for tearing up for Mike Lowell's curtain call after he was pulled from the game, singling off the green monster in the bottom of the 5th.

Rays win the AL East thanks to the Yanks losing earlier today, but beating Kansas City in extras to "win it" makes it feel a little better.

I say "win it" because now we end the season 1 game up, rather than tied, using the head-to-head record to give us the division by technicality.

Sucks for San Diego. They had the division lead for pretty much the entire season, only to miss out on the playoffs entirely.

Just ran out of steam for the last month, it seemed. I don't follow west coast teams too closely, but their lineup just didn't impress me much to be a run scoring machine.

I dont care if The Twins are home
I dont care if they have better hitting in prior years

I dont care if the Yankees had a stronger team last year (especially the starting rotation)

Yankees will sweep the Twins in 3

As much as I've been a Yankees fan, Francisco Liriano and Carl Pavano tells me the series is getting stretched to 5 games.
