With the rotation the Phillies have, and practically the same lineup, featuring a gaggle of former MVP's, they better win a World Series next year.

More proof that Philly fans and their old mantra of being "cursed" was the biggest crock of shit ever brewed.

...and the Pirates sign....Lyle Overbay. Only for a year, which isn't that bad of a move.

I say this every year, which is weird since I'm an American League guy, but I hope the Pirates have a winning season this up-coming year. No teams fans deserve this long of stretch of losing.

Except for the Clippers, but that's the NBA and they don't have any fans to begin with.

They let Jason Werth go and Raul Ibanez is supposedly next (To save salary) so they will not have the same hitting

But with that starting rotation and still having Howard, Utley and Rollins they should go far

It is interesting that they won the WS in 08 with Hamels as the ace, in 09 they made it to the WS but lost with Lee/Hamels and in '10 they lost in the NLCS with HAlladay, Oswalt and Hamels

So with just Hamels they won it all but with a Big 3 in '10 they didn't make it to the WS. Just shows you games are not won on paper

But still it is an awesome starting rotation

Teams get hot at the right times, and that's the only way I saw the Giants getting anywhere in the playoffs last season. I would've put money on Phillies/Rangers being the World Series once the Championship Series' were set.

Yankees sign Pedro Feliciano 2 years 8 million

I think he is a very good lefty reliever, but he has led the league in games pitched 3 years in a row, so that is a worry

Kerry Wood back to the Cubs 1 year 1.5 million
Great deal for the Cubs, I guess Wood wanted to go back home badly because he could have gotten at least triple that somewhere I would think

Being a Rays fan is going to suck. The list is as followed...

Carl Crawford - signed with Boston
Carlos Pena - signed with Chicago Cubs
Jason Bartlett - traded to San Diego for random middle relief
Joaquin Benoit - signed with Detroit
Dan Wheeler - also signed with Boston
Randy Choate - signed with Florida
Dioner Navarro - signed with Dodgers? (who cares, we didn't want him anyway)

I expect more relief pitchers to sign elsewhere, especially Soriano.

Zack Greinke officially gets traded to the Brewers. Good move for them, as next year is probably Milwaukee's last-chance at relevancy with the Price Fielder/Ryan Braun duo.

Washington has to feel a little hurt. Apparently, they were going after Greinke hard, but he didn't want to be on a loser.

I'll say it again, even if it sounds weird from a Yankee fan. Salary cap. Make every team seem like they have a fair shot without hitting the poor house.

Wow. When a guy on the ROYALS avoids your team because he doesn't want to be on a loser, you're team is REALLY bad

In a Move of Great Insignificance, the Pirates sign Garrett Atkins to a minor league deal. Can't hurt, as it's one of those low-risk moves.

Figured Atkins had retired at least 5 years ago

Yankees signed Mark Prior earlier this offseason and at that time I thought he had retired at least 5 years ago also (though I had forgotten that I had read Texas signed him late this past season and he pitched 1 game in the minors)

There are always several players every off season that missed the last 2+ years to injury (usually pitchers) that are signed to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training with the hope they will make it back

Think Kelvim Escobar with the Mets last year (who of course did not make it)

2011 Hall of Fame inductees:

Bert Blyleven

Roberto Alomar

Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro and Jeff Bagwell were passed over. I can understand the resentment for McGwire and especially Palmeiro, but Bagwell is a little unfair. I can't recall where he was ever indentified as a PED user. Suspected, sure.

Not crazy about Blyleven being elected. Hall of Pretty Good, but not Fame. With all these marginal guys being elected in previous years (see: Gossage, Goose and Dawson, Andre), I'm surprised Dale Murphy hasn't gotten in.

No issues with Alomar. He was usually the best at his position during his day and helped win two World Series trophies. There are the rumors about him being "the Gay Met", but so what?

Not too surprised by either, considering last years votes. Espcially Alomar. Don't care much for Blyleven myself, but he has the numbers and crap, so he got to wait forever before getting te nod.

Surprised a little bit about Bagwell, and to a lesser extent, Larkin. Palmiero is joining the McGwire club of "go fuck your cheating selves", though.
