The Astros with a blunderful play to start their day against the Rays. Runner at second, no one out... gets caught in a run down on a grounder back to the pitcher. Then the batter gets caught in a run down trying to advance to second. Awful. |

Wang was not highly touted when he first came up Then he had two great seasons back to back. Fell off the face of the earth after that. Willis had a great rookie year on the World Series winning Marlins in 2003. He was the NL rookie of the year that year. Then he had a great 2005 as Mad Dog already posted. Thing with Willis he was a lefty, and he also was a great hitter for a pitcher (he had a multi homer game once). Also a very good fielder. So all those things, plus the fact that he was 21 his rookie season and there was the overhyping of him. |

ESPN is already back to their usual Sawx/Yanks suck-off... hey, producers of your crappy progrems: The Rays are a game behind the Sox for the Wild Card, and 2 out of 1st. They aren't THAT far from contention. Stop hoping that they'll go away because the precious Yanks/Sawx "feud" is more attractive to talk about. Note: Hating on the Sox got boring for me after 2007. It's really pointless now, when they've played each other about 713 times in the last decade. |

It really is tiring. Especially with the constant ESPN coverage of every single fucking game. And don't get me started on Sunday Night Baseball. How can you shuffle the same 8 teams around all season like that? |

Since we're in the midst of interleague, I'm surprised I haven't seen the usual "why are Team A and Team B playing each other" bullshit story. For instance, someone will moan: "why are the Rockies and White Sox playing each other, when the White Sox should be playing the Cubs?" I'd say something like Rockies/White Sox holds about as much appeal as Rockies/Brewers. And definitely more appeal than Rockies/Padres or Rockies/Giants which is supposed to be a precious division rivalry that the anti-interleague whiners love. |

I lost that "Interleague magic" feeling years ago when the glamour series of, for example Yanks/Mets or Sox/Cubs, finally got boring. This year they did Yanks/Cubs at Wrigley and Cubs/Sawx ast Fenway. Interleague officially has finally done every pretty series it can think of. Tuck it away for a few years and dust it off again some other time. We have enough problems contemplating how 2 leagues of 15 team each is going to work without constantly having interleague games instead of figuring how the unbalanced schedule can be more unbalanced when some teams gets to play all the inferior teams of Interleague and some don't. |

Interleague's become the same deal as the NFL's "interconference" match-ups. I don't mind them, but when they're presented as a BIG DEAL, it'll fall flat. When I buy my tickets for each upcoming season, I get at least one interleague game simply because it's a team I don't normally see. I think the media tries to slap too much significance on them. |

I actually saw Troy Tulowitzki do something impressive, last night. He scored from first on a bloop single to win the game in the bottom of the 13th. Like I said before, whenever I see him (live or on TV), he's grounding out. So it was cool for me to finally see him do something noteworthy. |

Here's my latest All-Star ballot: American League: 1B - Gonzalez, Adrian 2B - Zobrist, Ben SS - Cabrera, Asdrubal 3B - Longoria, Evan C - Avila, Alex DH - Young, Michael OF - Bautista, Jose OF - Jones, Adam *OF - Quentin, Carlos National League: 1B - Fielder, Prince 2B - Walker, Neil SS - Tulowitzki, Troy 3B - Jones, Chipper C - Iannetta, Chris OF - Kemp, Matt OF - McCutchen, Andrew OF - Stanton, Mike Looking at the list, I'd say my halfway MVP picks are currently Adrian Gonzalez and Prince Fielder. I don't think I went with too much of a personal bias. McCutchen and Iannetta are probably the most obvious. I had no issues voting for McCutchen, but I only picked Iannetta because no others NL catchers jumped out at me. Same for 3B, so for the first time ever I voted for Chipper. Also, it's a little silly that you can vote for a "DH" (only in the AL) in a year when the game's being played under NL rules in Arizona. |

As far as AL Voting, I'd go with all your picks, except for 2B. Zobrist has had an average year, minus a three game stretch where he was super man. I guess I might vote David Ortiz for DH, even if that sounds so stupid since it's an NL park, as you mentioned. Starting pitcher, I might go with Justin Verlander, if he's selected. I haven't kept up enough with the NL to really pick on the spot. |

Definitely Verlander for the AL. I'd probably tag Roy Halladay for the NL. I was thinking Jair Jurrgens earlier this week, but after dissecting their numbers, Halladay is clearly having the better year thus far. Oh...also noticed that Kevin Correia is the first Pirate to have 10 wins before the All-Star Break since BOB WALK in 1993! (Consider that a teaser for a future topic...) |

The Rockies just picked up Mark Ellis from Oakland in exchange for minor leaguer Bruce Billings and "future considerations". I'm guessing they'll give Ellis a shot at 2B, since Jonathan Herrera, Jose Lopez and Chris Nelson aren't sticking. |

After looking over the NL, here's my picks... C - Brian McCann 1B - Prince Fielder 2B - Rickie Weeks 3B - Chipper Jones SS - Jose Reyes OF - Ryan Braun OF - Matt Kemp OF - Lance Berkman Starting pitcher has to be Halladay. I almost always vote Pujols at first, but his injury makes voting for him a waste. |

Here's the official "final vote" All-Star candidates for each league: AL - Alex Gordon, KC - Adam Jones, BAL - Paul Konerko, CHI - Victor Martinez, DET - Ben Zobrist, TB NL: - Andre Ethier, LA - Todd Helton, COL - Ian Kennedy, AZ - Michael Morse, WAS - Shane Victorino, PHI I voted Konerko for the AL. Fan in me wants to vote for Todd Helton, but Ethier did have that big hit-streak earlier in the year. I think that deserves some recognition and he's had a decent first half on top of that. |

The homer in me wants Zobe, but Konerko is a major snub. NL, I'd pick Kennedy. |
