I can understand being mad your team is losing all the time, but come on.

There's only one instance where I openly heckled a player from the Rays. It was in 2005, and it was Jonny Gomes. I did it mostly because they ran commercials all summer for "Take Jonny Gomes to School" promotion, and his batting average was nearing the Mendoza line. Then I found out he had a pretty banged up shoulder that probably lead to his complete drought of home runs and making solid contact in general, so I felt a bit douchey afterwards.

If there's a specific reason to a heckle, then it's to be expected. Guy drops an easy flyball, walks 4 in an inning, well then I can see how someone could get on him. But heckling for the sake of heckling is kinda' lame.

Every game at Coors Field, there's always a loudmouth in left field who simply hollers: "hey, {INSERT NAME OF OPPOSING FIELDER HERE}, you suck. Yeah, you suck. You should be in Triple A". It's incredibly lame, because they never heckle a Rockies player. Even when Matt Holliday was bobbling balls around and turning flyballs into extra base hits, they'd say; "good TRY, Holliday".

I'm heading to Wrigley in August. I've been before and didn't like it, but everybody else in my group feels there's an absolute need to go. I'd much rather go 90 minutes north to Milli-wau-kee (it means "the good land").

Pirates won yesterday to move into a 3-way first place tie with the Cardinals and Brewers on July 25, 2011.

Indulge me. I just need to let that sentence sit there and sink in for a bit.

Watched the first few innings of the Pirates/Braves game, last night... on ESPN. No way they would've featured this a year ago.

I haven't been following Jason Heyward this year, but dang does he appear to have fallen apart. He seemed like the Next Big Thing last year (and should've been ROY). Now he seems like the second coming of Pete Orr.

John Kruk made some weird comment how this was the first game featuring the Pirates on ESPN since 2004...

Really? Do you WANT To admit you've ignored them, if that were true? Even the DEVIL Rays got ESPN coverage against the Sawx and Yanks a few times a year during the abysmal years.

It seems kinda' like an "addition by subtraction" deal to give Yonder Alonso a chance in the Reds' outfield. They did the classy thing by not dumping Gomes outright or selling him down the river.

Very true. Gomes numbers seem like they're in the toilet, but at least in the NL, he can make a living as a pinch hitter. Just look at Matt Stairs.

I feel like I've said this every year since Matt Stairs left Pittsburgh after 2003: "holy crap, that guy's still playing?!". Then he pops up and hits a homerun.

Ervin Santana no-hits Cleveland, but gives up a run on an error and wild pitch. Cleveland also made FIVE errors in the game. Damn, you deserve to lose, no matter what, if you play that badly.

Fun note while reading the Santana no-hitter article: last time the Indians were no-hit was by the Yankees' Jim Abbott back in 1993.

Before I stopped gambling in 1998, I was also into roto sports

Matt Stairs was on the last team I had in 98 and that was probably the last good year he had as a regular

Funny bit of news... the Nationals designated Stairs for assignment. Who knew he'd be a popular topic here. :P
