After losing 7 in a row and being swept by the Cubs in four games, I think the Pirates' chance to contend in the NL Central has dried up. Just like that-- over and done in a week. I said back in March that it was Milwaukee's division and I'm still sticking to that

Went to the Rockies-Nationals game, last night, for the sole purpose of hanging out at BP and getting autographs. First time I've done that in about a year. I got Livan Herandez and Drew Storen, yet it was worth it because I got Livan to sign a nice 1998 Marlins card. Right after he won the World Series and notched something like 17 K's in the NLCS (thanks to a generous strike zone). Storen signed a Nationals team ball that I started at Spring Training, last year.

It was also cool because the entire adventure ran me exactly 10 bucks. That's round trip transportation (public train), a bottle of Gatorade and a ticket I bought from a hobo. I could've talked the hobo down to a buck, but I was more than pleased with what I gave him.

There's just one thing I want to know, right now... Who did that hobo kill for the ticket in the first place?

I was wondering that, too. He had four "comp" tickets, printed as such with face value of $1.00 each and a hole punch at the corner. I wouldn't be surprised if he got them from the Denver Rescue Mission and a worker told him: "hey, Clarence, here are four tickets to the Rockies game! Take three of your friends!'

Of course, ol' Clarence proceeded to think: "hot damn! Booze money if I sells 'em!"

Rockies have had a working relationship with the homeless shelters ever since they moved to Coors Field in 1995. For instance, all the nice winter parkas their ushers use in April, May and September are given to the homeless at the end of each season.

Regardless, it beat the shit out of StubHub or waiting in line for Rockpile tickets. StubHub had $4 dollar tickets...which ended up being $16 when you slap on fees. Rockpile tickets would've required me to have no life, line up at the center field box office at 3:30, wait for almost two hours, then get a shitty seat for $5. The center field box office is completely on the opposite side and a pain in the ass to get to. People usually approach Coors from the homeplate or leftfield sides, which are the "city sides". You can't walk from leftfield to center. You have to go around the long way.

Rockpile tickets used to sold at all Coors Field box offices, just like regular tickets from 2003-2008. I used to walk over, after work, and buy one at the homeplate box office around 5:30pm. But when attendance began rising in 2008, they reverted to the center field box office/two-hours-before-game bullshit. Now they sell out the Rockpile for pretty much every game and it's become a favorite of the boozing college crowd.

Your description of the Rockpile reminds me of the Party Deck at the Trop. It's basically the place for uninterested, college age "fans" to drink and be obnoxious and stupid. Ballparks could do without these types of fans and attractions, but money is money is money, and yes, I did that intentionally.

Not that I'm laughing at the homeless, but the idea of someone getting ballgame tickets (or anything, for that matter) and instantly thinking to trade them in for booze money has hit comedy written all over it.

15 years later, and Girardi still calls Posada "Georgie", as if he's a kid, or something. I don't know why I find it amusing, but I do. I'm sure not a lot of people call Joe Girardi "Joey".

I would have thought that Posada would have been cut by now

Or deported

Or spayed and neutered

And please put Jeter in the bottom third of the lineup already

Jeter's batting around .280 and Posada's average has gone from nothing to around .230-.235 in the bottom third if the lineup. And they're tied for first with the unstopable Red Sox. Don't fuck with things for the sake of fucking with them. As if there's a better option than Posada, anyway. I guess Andruw Jones .200 average is more deserving of playing time, or... well, that's basically it. The Yankees bench isn't exactly deep, and there's nothing out there that's a significant better option.

Edit: Posada is benched from DH against a rigthy, and there's talks that they'll promote Montero from Triple A to give him a shot. Again, why not just RELEASE Posada instead of making him ride the pine? It's less disrespectful that way, I think, instead of making him watch his career end.

Pittsburgh's a few outs away from losing their TENTH straight.

In Friday's NY/BOS game, I was thrilled to see Boone Logan save the day and strike out no less than Adrian Gonazlez with the bases loaded. Season; and potentially a career; highlight for him.

Posada is done. If they bring up Montero then make him the DH

If they don't bring him up, then when A-Rod is healthy, have Chavez as the DH

Andruw Jones and you already said is not the answer

I am not saying to bench Jeter, but he should be batting 7th or lower.

I would definitely say Posada is done, if not now, but in a week. When the manager basically tells you he put the best team he had in the lineup, and you're not in it... it sucks. I can't imagine how hard this is on the Yankees locker room. When A-Rod gets back, Posada's potential as a part-time DH will be non-existant. A-Rod, Chavez, and Nunez will platoon the 3B/DH spots.

The Rays have a weird habit of "ask players dumb questions", and one tonight was "What is one item you couldn't live without?" Now, let me just say, I'm not against the beliefs people have and how they decide to worship, but when Ben Zobrist came on the screen, I KNEW he would say "my bible", because he's very open about his religion and is known for holding bible sessions in the locker room. At least he's not the "force it on you" kind of guy.

I think Posada was done last year and maybe even the year before. I was really annoying at the pissing match they were having with Jeter though. They should've paid him to retire and offered him some BS office job. They're essentially paying him to not wear another uniform and take up a roster spot at a defensively vital position that he doesn't have the range to play anymore.

I think they need to overhaul the team starting this offseason. They've got a lot of guys in decline, poor defense at a few positions and a mess of a pitching staff in some ways. They really got themselves into a mess when they went all out for that ring in 2009.

It's hard to imagine where to begin with the Yankees, and I'm going to try and stay unbias...

The bullpen is a mess, outside of Mariano Rivera. They're $30 mil. Set-Up man was ineffective, Joba Chamberlain is barely average, and it's a patch job for the most part.

A.J. Burnett sucks, and I'm going to say that til the day he retires. Colon has been okay, but isn't a long term solution, ditto Garcia. Phil Hughes' dead-arm really puts a scare in you, and Ivan Nova is Ivan Nova. CC Sabathia is the one true spot in the rotation you can count on, and doesn't he have an opt-out in his contract after the season?

I know it's the AL, but you still need a bench. Andruw Jones and Jorge Posada aren't going to cut it. Martin came down to earth in June, Jeter's in decline, Gardner is an okay hitter with great speed, and Swisher is streaky as streaky gets, ditto Tex. Cano and Granderson have been the only true reliables, and even Granderson has a history of underperforming.

I'm honestly surprised the Yanks are a game out of first.

I agree with you on Posada and Jeter. I have said this several times on this board before, giving Posada 4 years and $52 million at age 36 was ridiculous considering he is a catcher. And Jeter should have been offered 2 years for $20 million and that is it.

You are being harsh about the complete overhaul though. They are a game out of first and have the 3rd best record in MLB. They are not in that dire of shape

They do need to younger though.

.

Robertson has been very good this year, but the rest of the bullpen outside of Rivera is a patch jpb as you said. But that's what happens when 3 relievers (Chamberlain, Marte and Feliciano) miss the bulk of the season. As well as the Soriano deal being dumb

Agreed on everything you said about the starting pitching

As far as the hitting, I agree with everything you said except Tex
His average is down, but his power #s and OBP are still there
As is his stellar defense
