See, for me at least, the NFL lost its luster when the Ravens won the Super Bowl in the 2000 season. I remember a buddy complaining about that and he said: "y'know, I'll betcha' in a few years that the frickin' Cardinals will be in the Super Bowl". And they were.

At least the 70's through 90's had championships for teams that had been perennial playoff contenders. 1980 looked like a fluke, with the 49ers and Bengals, but it turned out to be a breakthrough for both clubs.

The Saints were a good story, but consider that they were bottom feeders in 2005. Four years later: Super Bowl Champs. That's messed up. Then NFL's "parity" policy has become a "parody".

I know it helps more cities and fans get a taste of the championship spotlight, but I miss the days of a dominant team. Baseball hasn't had a repeat champion since the Yankees, the NFL is all over the fucking place with maintaining consistant winners, the NHL is just as bad as the NFL, and the NBA doesn't care about anything but Lebron, Kobe, and when a hot team that doesn't include them will finally falter, so when the Spurs kept winning every couple of years, no one gave a shit.

Can anyone explain why the Nationals always pick up the Reds scraps? I used to think it was Jim Bowden, but they have both Nix AND Gomes in their outfield now. What is their deal?

Honestly, their Uni's aren't that different from the Reds either...

Not that he's really worth mentioning these days, but Mike Jacobs was busted with a positive test for HGH, and released by the Rockies immediately after finding out. I remember Jacobs being the "all or nothing" HR kind of guy with the Mets and Marlins, but I had no idea where he was once he flaked out with Kansas City last season. It's a shame people STILL think they can sneak through the system with that junk. Suspension only punishments don't mean a thing, just void the contract of a player who tests positive and put him on the disqualified list for the remainder of the season.

Had no idea Mike Jacobs was even in the Rockies' system this year. I'd say his career's probably over-- at least in the Bigs.

For the Nationals-Reds thing, I guess you'd call it the Austin Kearns Sickness. Seems like after they got him in 2006(?), they development some form of hero-worshipping with the Reds.

I recall the Rays/Yankees having a thing like that in 2004-05, where the Yanks picked up the Rays scraps. Some guys, like Tino Martinez, got significant playing time, but then there were guys like Hideo Nomo and Nick Green, to name a few, who either never came out of the minors or got a brief cup of coffee. I seem to recall the Yanks picking up one of the Rays scrub catchers too, but I don't remember his name.

Are you thinking of Kevin Cash?

He was with the Rays in '05, but was with the Red Sox before he went to the Yankees in 2009

No, not him. How much time went between John Flaherty's stints with the Rays and Yanks? And yes, I know he wasn't a scrub... for a couple of years, but he wasn't exactly starting for a good team, either. :P

A.J. Burnett sucks ass. I'm so sure of that description of him, I don't think I need to go into detail.

He is a grossly overpaid inconsistent piece of crap. Having great stuff as they always say about him doesn't mean shit when you are a .500 pitcher for your lifetime and make $16 million a year

He better not be on the post season roster

He needs to be removed from the rotation, period... oh wait, Garcia's on the 15-Day DL. That buys Burnett a stay of execution. Sabathia-Nova-Colon-Hughes-Garcia is good enough to have the 2nd best record in the AL. Burnett can't hold 12-run leads or pitch into the 3rd against a 4th place team fielding it's Rochester Triple-A squad in a painfully mediocre division.

Edit: Forgot the Yanks are just ahead of Boston, so correction: best record in the AL, 2nd best in the majors.

Orestes Destrade is demonstrating "fluid body movement" when batting for players in slumps, and it looks more like he's doing the Hadoken move in Street Fighter. Then he starts talking in Japanese, to REALLY add credibility to that comparison.

Cubs can their GM, Jim Hendry. He gets credit for helping the Cubs make the postseason in 2003, 2007 and 2008, but black marks for bringing in Fukudome, Milton Bradley and Carlos Zambrano (plus Alfonso Soriano, depending on how you feel about him).

When referencing Soriano's stint as a Cub, all I hear is the noise for an incorrect guess on Family Feud.
