Is it me, or did the Cards/Braves race get absolutely no coverage compared to Sox/Rays? I'm not saying it was completely ignored, but it seemed like everything was "Rays/Sox, Rays/Sox... oh, Cards/Braves, did we mention Rays/Sox?!" |

Congratulatons.... to the 1995 Angels, you are now off the hook!
But give the Orioles some credit. They had a pretty good 9th inning off of a top-tier closer in Papelbon. As for Atlanta-St. Louis. One reason: it was the Braves. The team that has made a tradition out of playoff losses over the past 20 years. If it had been any other team, I think the coverage would've been greater. My attitude was: "why should we care? It's the frickin' Braves, they'll get bounced in the first round, anyways". |

I wonder how many Sawx fans are thinking "the Yankees handed the Rays the game" by not using their best pitchers or some other bullshit. The Yankees lineup featured most of their regulars, until it got late in the game, when it was still 7-0, and their bullpen isn't one of those "oh my God, here we go" bullpens. They played the ppitching like a spring training game, but it still took the Red Sox collapse to even get to game 162. |

Dude sounds way excited for the opposing team walking off on the Yanks... oh wait, they fucked over the Sawx, that's right. |

I'd say another reason the Braves and Cards didn't receive as much coverage is because their games just weren't that exciting. As opposed to the two comebacks in the Boston and Tampa Bay games. To paraphrase Superstar Graham, there was a lot more drama there, lot more... |

Pirates finished 72-90. Not a great record, but the most wins they've had since 2004 and a 15 win improvement over last year's disaster. They officially finished in 4th place, for the first time since 2003. I think Clint Hurdle's job is safe and they've got a good core .Take 4 months off, re-charge, tweak the roster, then go at it again in February. More importantly, Pittsburgh became relevant, even if only for a few weeks in July. An improvement over their annual status as the punchline of all baseball columnists. OTHER THINGIE: I'm reading a rather sub-par called "Living on the Black" by John Feinstein. It's about Mike Mussina and Tom Glavine in the 2007 season. In my experience, the best baseball books I have read are "season diaries", so to speak (example: Ball Four). I thought this wold be the same, but I'm almost 200 pages into it and feel like throwing it away. It's obvious written for a baseball audience, but there is a lot of elementary explanation in it. Such as describing what the Gold Glove is, or explaining the purpose of batting practice. He also gets a few facts wrong, such as saying John Smiley was a pitcher for the Pirates in 1995 (Smiley had been traded to the Twins before the 92 season and spent 95 with the Reds). A portion about Spring Training is rather awful, as well. He starts out by reminiscing about the atmosphere, saying its great for fans and praising it. Then he ends that portion by basically saying fans and media are morons for showing up for games that don't count. One funny anecdote in it. After Glavine's first career win, he was given a ball from the Braves coaches to "give to (his) mother". Written on the ball was: "Hi Mom, here is the ball from my first fucking win". Eh...I got it at Dollar Tree, so I say I got my money's worth. |

I know I'm playing Captan Obvious, but that blown call to end a game against Atlanta really fucked up the Pirates mojo, but as you said, I'm glad Pittsburgh became relevant discussion rather than the punchline to every joke, even if it was for a brief period of time. With how the NL Central played out this year, there's optimism for improvement next year. Speaking of the NL Central... where will Fielder and Pujols end up? I'm going to play it safe and say Fielder to the Cubs and Pujols stays in St. Louis. |

Just like teams do in the NFL by resting their regulars the last game or two when they have the playoff seed clinched meaning they can't move up or down, baseball teams will position their pitching staff for the playoffs when there is nothing to play for Yes under normal circumstances that would have been Rivera saving the game in the 9th or Robertson or Soriano coming in the 8th when the Rays scored 6 But they had no need to win the game for seeding, resting players is more important |

Boston's beat writer fills time during the rain delay and says the Rays "are not going to win, tonight": [doHTML]<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6Ij0ovv8AUw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>[/doHTML] Not really a big deal, as he's a writer and is allowed to give his opinion and make predictions. More importantly...who's the blonde chick on the left?! |

My opinion on the Reds season... fire Dusty Baker. This year was proof that the Reds won despite his stupid ass last year. This year he stuck with Jonny Gomes when there was a far far far far superior left fielder riding the bench. They actually had to trade Gomes because retard wouldn't take him out of the lineup. It's also obvious that he's ruined Drew Stubbs approach at the plate. Dude struck out 205 times this year... WTF? Dusty also decided someone hitting .240 was the perfect lead off guy when Brandon fucking Phillips was sitting right there for that job. He's also trying his hardest to ruin Chapman. In short... fuck Dusty Baker. |

Francona appears to be out as the Sawx manager. Shameful... I know this year was a horrible disaster, but he's lead them to the Playoffs 5 or 6 times, including two World Series championships, and until this year, lead them through some difficult stretches and they somehow remained competitive. Last year, riddled with injuries from all their star players, they still managed to stay in the playoff hunt all year long. |

They won 90 fucking games. Red Sox fans really need to be ashamed of themselves for this one. What a bunch of fucking unappreciative assholes. |
