Maybe it's because "my team" hasn't been in the playoffs since 1992, but I think you really miss out if you bail when your team's season is over. I'm not saying watch every game, but it's still entertaining to at least check the highlights or headlines and know what's going on. Even if you see the stories and think: "dammit, that could've been my team doing that!" |

I'm on the home stretch of "Living on the Black" and I've already listed it for sale on Half.com. I was reading it last night and was about ready to toss it against the wall-- as the author went off on a tangent about how to pronounce Jorge Posada's first name. Just a few pages earlier, he mentioned "Julian Tavarez" and within a paragraph he switched the name to "Julian Tavares". A very subpar book and full of worthless cock-sucking for Mike Mussina and Tom Glavine (especially Glavine). |

I can't imagine why anyone would need to spend more than 5 words on the subject of pronouncing a name. "It's pronounced like Whore-Hey." There. Simple as apple pie. |

Even more ridiculous is that Posada had been mentioned countless times, but around page 300 he decides to go into the pronunciation bit. With the other explanatory crap--such as the purpose of Spring Training, what a Gold Glove is, why managers might pull a starting pitcher-- I'm surprised he hasn't explained what a DH is. But I still have about 200 pages to go. |

Ugh. No offense to whoever the author is, but odds are, the person that bought your book already has a mild understanding of the sport, and doesn't need explanations for everything. As a 5 year old, I knew what spring training and the gold glove was for, and I only watched baseball once in a while. |

It's John Feinstein. It's supposed to be a diary of the 2007 season for Mussina and Glavine. It's obviously written for a baseball audience, which makes all this spoon-fed crap unbearable. But like I said, I got it at Dollar Tree. |

Maybe if baseball was my favorite sport (it was as a kid, but not as an adult) then I would care But I don't No clue who is ahead in either of the LCS series and I haven't watched a minute of it nor do I plan to I guess I could say it would be nice for it to be Texas vs Milwaukee in the series, since neither has won a championship in their current city with their current team name. But I still wouldn't watch Football is different, I will watch as much of the playoffs as I can even if the Jets aren't in them. And even though I am a Nets fan, I do watch a decent amount of NBA playoff basketball. This past finals I watched more than usual, but that was because I wanted to see LeFarce James lose in teh finals, which he did |

We're entitled to follow sports any way we like, but I consider the NHL my least favorite of the major sports leagues by a wide margin, and still watched every game I could of the Stanley Cup Finals between Boston and Vancouver. Just saying. |

I don't follow hockey anymore, it's been probably 10 years since I followed it I couldn't name more than 5 players in the NHL to the correct team now I guess with me part of it is when I stopped gambling (13 years clean in GA), I stopped watching hockey, college football and college basketball. And that's because I never watched those sports much except when I had gambled on them. Actually hockey I did follow closely at one time because that was the one sport my dad knew more than me and he watched it alot, so I followed with him, but I moved out from home in 1993. I was a Rangers fan so I was into the Cup run in '94 but once I stopped gambling in 1998 that was it for that. College sports was never a big thing for me as a kid and I went to Pace University which was not a big sports school so didn't follow it in my college days (fall of '86 - fall of '90). Baseball was my favorite sport growing up. Found it less exciting as an adult, so it dropped from #1 to #3 as my favorite sports, with NFL and NBA moving up to #1 and #2 And I guess part of it is my wife is not into sports. Between the sports I do watch and wrestling, that is enough TV I watch that she doesn't. So that is my long winded reason as to why that I am not watching the rest of the playoffs. That and I don't care :) |

I thought I liked hockey in 1995-1996. The Avalanche just moved to town and won the Stanley Cup. Then I realized I didn't exactly like it; I just felt like I was obligated to, since the team was doing well. About a year later (1997), the head coach was prepping his team for the playoffs and said: "hey, eh, I don't know much aboot football, but I don't want us to choke like the Broncos did". That was verbotten at the time, in Denver, and got a big "fuck you hockey" from me. Found two interesting tidbits in my Shitty Book: -Who was the last switch-hitter to win the AL MVP? Believe it or not, but not Mickey Mantle. It was A's Vida Blue in 1971. The DH was still two years away and Blue batted that year as a switch-hitter. And I just have to say that "Vida Blue" is such a great name. -The book briefly covers the Yankees' Triumvirate of Mussina, Clemens and Pettite getting swept by the Rockies in June 2007. All games had reasonable scores, too. The Yankees coming through is always big news, so I'm a little ashamed that I had completely forgotten about that. |

Vida Blue is such a great name, an Italian-stereotype couldn't mangle it with a terrible Mario accent. |

I'm sure Harry Caray would've pronounced it: "Vee-Da Blay". Sometimes he would inexplicably try to work in accents in names. ("Spelled backwards, he's Eulb Adiv") Oh, speaking of Cubs stuff--- saw that they officially hired Theo Epstein, as we speculated. |

I love how much coverage this gets on ESPN and their ticker, considering he will play 0 games and pitch 0 innings. As much as a GM can be credited to building a team, acting like they're God and the only reason for the team winnning makes me hope the Cubs continue to suck it and suck it hard. Spending money doesn't make a champion, it just gives you short-term hopes of making the playoffs better than building wth scrap heap pick ups and rookies. |

Rangers are in and it seems like the Cardinals will make it as well. If so, that's the second year in a row where the World Series is sorta' "Guys Who Weren't Expected to Be There". |

The Brewers have played like complete ass the last two games, especially tonight. Not that I mind, since I want St. Louis to win it all now that "my" teams are out. Plus I really dislike Morgan and aren't too find of Prince Fielder, either. |
