OK, when did Kendry Morales become "Kendrys Morales"? Or has he always been gringo-izing his name for US audiences? Regardless, we won't be hearing his name anytime soon, since he's missing the season once again. |

I noticed that on the ticker, too. I thought it was a typo at first, but you never know with some players. It's like James Shields. I swear to GOD, in 2007, he was Jamie Shields, but I thought that was too girly sounding, and what do you know, in 2008, he was James. Or maybe it was 2006 when he was Jamie. Who cares |

Thought the same thing with players named "Jaime" and "Jamie" over the years. It seems they'll start out as "Jaime" (pronounced "Hy-may"), then become "Jamie" (pronounced "Jay-me"). Jaime Garcia is a prime example, as he's now being called "Jay-me". Other name that gets me is "Angel" (pronounced "On-hell"), which becomes gringo-ized and pronounced "Ain-jell" (or the guys who fly around and play harps). Remember Angel Berroa? |

I have not been on the baseball thread in the last few weeks, but I see the last page of posts is all about the pronunciation of people's names Guess the season is not that compelling huh? |

It's the middle of May and the most interesting thing in the MLB ticker was a players new spelling... so to answer your question, I have no idea. :P Verlander pitched 5 2/3 innings of no-hit ball tonight before allowing a triple, so no dice on back-to-back no no's. |

So... anyone think Jorge Posada will be retired or traded byJuly 31st? The guy is batting .160-ish, he can't hit lefties, he was dropped to 9th in the lineup, took himself out of the lineup, and Brian Cashman's reaction to questions sounds like Jorge's done, at least with New York. Really sad to see. I grew up watching Posada. I remember when he was Joe Girardi's back-up, and gradually took over the #1 catcher spot. It sucks seeing guys like him having their career come to an end. |

I came on here specifically to post about Posada Like most Yankees fans, I thought it was ridiculous at the time to sign him to a 4 year $52 million deal at age 36 considering he was a catcher. Thankfully this was the final year of that contract For him to take himself at the lineup was shameful. While this was a one time occurrence that is certainly not the mark of a team player. He probably won't retire because of the money owed to him, but it would not surprise me if the Yankees release him. They have the money, so they can eat the contract If they can trade him even for a low-level prospect I would be shocked, unless they ate all of the contract I never thought he was a great as most Yankees fans seem to (just because I found it laughable when some people said he became an average defensive catcher) Yes he was a great hitter for a catcher and a switch-hitter, but he was horrible behind the plate whether calling a game, throwing out runners or especially blocking pitches. Still he was very good for many years, but he got old quick. It may seem cold, but it's a business. If he had accepted his hitting 9th or even being benched like a man, then decided it wasn't for him and retired, that would have been fine But to not play last night and then say he had a bad back, he looks old and pathetic Good riddance, if he won't retire, cut his ass |

As much as I hate thinking about Jorge quitting, here's my gripe... why not trade him, instead of turning him into a full time DH, when he's been acatcher for practically 99% of his entire career? Catchers turned DH's aren't exactly a popular option, and I can't recall many, if any, that had success in that role. Demoting him to bench warmer sans 4 at bats a game was rather cold, and he got shuttled to #9, while, for example, Derek Jeter, who was struggling just as hard, was never sent down the lineup that bad. I'm not defending the backing out of the lineup, I'm just looking at it from the other side, to try and make sense of things. |

Jeter absolutely should have been been knocked down to the 7th or 8th spot afew weeks ago, though he has picked it up a bit lately. I think if Gardner had been hitting better they would have left him at leadoff and kept Granderson #2 with Jeter #7 It may be cold to make Posada a benchwarmer, but it's a business It seems the issue was with him batting 9th. He had no right to back out because of that I forget what year it was in the playoffs where Joe Torre demoted A-Rod to batting 8th for one game in the playoffs. That was theoretically worse (as while ARod has mostly been a choke artist in the playoffs,he was still in his baseball prime then) while Posada's demotion was in a regular season game where he is way past his prime A-Rod may not have liked it (and we all know he is a drama queen) but he accepted it like a man and did not bitch |

That move HAD to have cost Joe Torre his job. It had to. You don't bat A-Rod 8th, ever... nevermind. I think that was the Detroit series in 2006. So what did Torre do in 2007 that got him shown the door? Did he put the worst starting pitcher in the game in a must-win situation? Cough:RandyJohnson2005:cough |

Yankees get swept at home by the Red Sox While I still think they will get it together, right now they are playing badly and looking very old |

*Starts Conga line* The Red Sox swept the Yankees! HA! The Red Sox swept the Yankees! I normally wouldn't celebrate with a conga so early, but I do enjoy rubbing it in the faces of the Yankee fans on the board, so I brought out the big guns. |
