I'm not going to pretend I know all the details about what's keeping owners and players from reaching a compromise, but not only has the entire pre-season been canceled, but now the first two weeks of the season have been wiped out too, and it's not going to be a big surprise if more is on the way. I could go off about greed or whatever, but the NBA doesn't need this to happen. Teams like the Hornets and Kings, to name a couple, are struggling to stay in locations and an economy that sees them desperately seeking relocation or substancially large financial commitments from various companies for advertisement rights. With this lockout, I would rather the NBA just rid the league of a couple of teams if so many are losing money. Relocation will just move the problem somewhere else. Edit: Just quickly would like to mention that it's cool that some players, high profile ones at that, are barnstorming it with ticket sales to their exhibitions being donated to various charities. On the other hand, players signing with overseas leagues isn't helping this lockout, either. |

It's definitely true. It's when the NBA owner and Player's association cannot make an agreement on how much players and the organization get payed. Basket Related Income (BRI) is key here. See, a team makes money form tickets, jersey sales, etc. and it has to share this income with the players. The owners of course want more money and the Player's association want more money for the players. If the owners and player's association cannot reach an agreement, no one gets payed, hence no one's playing for free and the owner's aren't setting up a season without money. This is a lockout and a horrible situation that looms the nba. |
