Storyline wise, the Batiri had dealings with Ultramantis Black and he helped them bring Kobald back to life.

Back to some WWF programming. Wow, the Islanders heel turn was handled poorly. Bruno telegraphed the shit out of it.

Bruno was BRUTAL in the booth. Majority of the time he just sat in silence.

I liked him attacking Savage after the Steamboat injury angle but he's terrible otherwise.

Yeah he sold that angle well I'll give em that.

I just got done watching the SStar episodes leading up to WM 4 and it's odd how he's there one week and the next week he's gone with no explanation given. I don't know if they ever put a kayfabe reason in the WWF magazine at that time.

I just got to June of 1987. I have a long stretch to go before I get a Saturday Night's Main Event now. I can usually push through a few months of WWF TV before I need a break. This is probably going to be the hardest stretch without a special event to break up the weekly TV.

One thing I hate about the WWF of the 80s is guys that I love in other territories get there and immediately stop giving a shit. One Man Gang just showed up on the TV and you can tell he's just there to cash a check. Bob Orton is another guy that always just seemed to be half assing it there.

1987 has been an interesting journey through the first half. You really see how the next 4-5 years are built off the back of what's going on right now. Lots of key guys debut, those mid 80s guys start leaving.

The Ban the DDT angle was a fun romp while it lasted.

I'm sure I've said this once every 10 or so pages, but God Darn, is Vince Russo a terrible writer... but in this case, I mean for WWF Magazine.

I don't know how many writers existed or were fabrications, but when it comes to the Russo era, you can tell when one of the random names or nameless columns is written by him. Example: Excessive use of ALL CAPS!!! and punctuation. I don't mean once or twice, I mean once or twice per paragraph, and Russo, a.k.a Vic Venom, a.k.a Butthump McGee, fill at least half the pages with this nonsense.

Problem #2: Trying to be "smart" and a mark in the same article, like dogging HOGAN for not being at the top of the list of former WWF Champions, but ranks WARRIOR in the Top 5. You can't cater to everyone, especially in the same article where you already took a stance in one direction. I'm cool with "heel" articles. They had "Bobby Heenan" columns for years where he insulted babyfaces and praised villains, but they at least stuck to the formula without getting lost by Page 3.

Yes, I'm bored, and thumbing through old WWF magazines. I don't need your pity.

I was in Cambridge over the weekend and saw an Indian restaurant called "The Maharajah" and I immediately thought of you. It wasn't me who changed your slogan though :)

As a follow-up to the Wrestling Challenge recap... I like Prime Time, but I'm not in love with it. The studio segments are, of course, the meat of the entertainment, but for most of the time (at least the first few years), it seemed like it belonged in a different universe, only occasionally promoting storylines.

Then we got the era where they mostly recycled the syndication shows with an occasional exclusive, and then we got to the live studio era which was just TNT without the serious talk-show host set-up, and finally, the table discussion, but the last 2 years are not fondly remembered for lack of Heenan/Monsoon. I personally enjoyed the campy nature and off-the-wall shenanigans of the live studio (Feb-October '91). Shows that Vince has a sense of humor.
