Who wants to play a game of "worst period of someone's career"? I was thinking about the Undertaker, and how awful, even as a mark, I found his "Biker Taker / American Badass" to be unbareable, and his matches mostly unwatchable. I guess he "freshend" up when he turned heel by the end of 2001, but then he became the "This Is My Yard" douche, and that was more annoying than sucky.

Agreed, although I do remember marking out something fierce when he initially returned during the Triple H/Rock Iron Man Match. If only I knew what was to come...

That was an awesome return, but it was all downhill from there. I can't say I enjoyed much of his career after that either, other than his WrestleMania matches.

Apparently the BikerTaker era is something that Vince will not talk about

I liked that it modernized Undertaker for an era that wasn't quite as cartoonish. The character did become overbearing at times, and it was also a period when Undertaker was at his worst as a backstage politician. I can't help but wonder how much bigger Kurt Angle might have become if Taker hadn't made him look like a joke in their 2000 feud.

I liked the concept of BikerTaker but there were several things working against him:

1. Taker went to absolute shit as a worker due to injuries and being a fatass at the time.

2. He was at the height of his political powers and wasn't selling for or putting guys over. He was a huge part of killing the Invasion in 2001 namely DDP, Sean O'Haire and Kanyon.

3. J.R. insisting on calling him Booger Red when he turned heel.

4. The heel turn in general and how fucking awful he was during that run.

Oh yeah, that fucking heel turn. I remember being immediately turned off when I saw they were using Undertaker as Vince's most recent lackey.

And beating the shit out of Jeff Hardy every week when he was WWE Champion and going over but he raised Hardy's hand or something so he obviously put him over.

Other noteworthy 2002 Undertaker Highlights:

Beating the ever loving piss out of Maven at the Rumble, beating the shit out of him in a "Hardcore Title" Match, then jobbing after the Rock KO'ed him.

Beating the piss out of Tommy Dreamer for no reason.

Going to a no contest in the main event of Unforgiven with Brock Lesnar, because of... whatever reason.

Undertaker vs. Hogan. Ew.

Ha, I was there live for that one. The people I went with were convinced that Jeff was going to win the title, but for some reason I was the only one who knew better.

At least Taker put Brock over at the very next pay-per-view in a big way. Still, no contest finishes in pay-per-view main events suck ass. If that was the direction they were heading in, they had a perfectly good Triple H/Rob Van Dam World title match that could have closed the show instead (though that match probably blew chunks too, at least it had a finish).

It took Undertaker being away for more than half the year for him to get back on my good side.

Looking back, 2002-2003 might have been the height of my "smark" hatred towards wrestling. I know I had my issues since then, but that's when it seemed like everything, particularly on Raw, really sucked or was completely uninteresting. Smackdown was cool. :P

On an unrelated note, I always loved the weekend C-Shows, no matter who was on it (this covers Jakked/Metal, heat, Velocity, whatever). I loved midcard matches that typically had finishes and allowed people more than 90 seconds of being squashed to show what they can do.

Booker T as GI Bro in WCW for a few months of 2000 is another one that fits as a bad period in an otherwise very good career. I know it was one of his original gimmicks when he started wrestling, but to revert to that in 2000 was another great idea by Vince Russo.

I've never had much of a following for Booker, except for his big singles push in WCW towards the end. Never hated him, but was never "holy shit I love him" either.

2002-2003 was probably the height of my smark hatred too. Then I figured out how readily available old footage was and I abandoned the WWE product expect for brief visitations like 2008 ECW for instance.

Oh man, 2002 was a brutal year. It felt like WWE couldn't do anything right during that time. 2003 was only better in the sense that I could see that John Cena and Eddie Guerrero were on the verge of breaking out and I thought that 2004 could be their year.

From about 2006 and on, I learned how to accept that things were never going to be the same as they were before and that I should just enjoy WWE for what it is. Nowadays if it pisses me off too much, I just walk away for a bit and try again later. There's enough old footage and indie stuff I enjoy anyhow.
