Ever notice how many wrestlers came from Mongolia? The Mongolian Stomper, Mongolian Bull, the Mongol, Bepo & Gedo Mongol, etc.

For supposedly being such a wild, uninhabitable space, it sure produced a lot of pro wrestlers. I'd like to see a kayfabe 70's documentary of "Bator's Wrestling Academy" or something. A house of logs and sheets in the middle of Mongolia that trains young Mongols how to be a rassler.

This may be common knowledge, but I watched Royal Rumble 1991 and noticed a pretty interesting trivia question:

Everyone knows Jimmy Snuka was Taker's first WrestleMania opponent, but who was the first wrestler to be eliminated from a Royal Rumble by the Undertaker?

Bret Hart? That rumble had a bit of a problem of having too much in the ring and too little going on at the same time. It really did feel like an hour long battle royal, with very few highlights.

Yeah, Bret Hart. That would've meant something in later years, but in 1991 it's just a random toss. I found it interesting, because I thought his first elimination would've been someone like Koko B. Ware or a Bushwhacker.

A small highlight is when the LOD briefly teams-up to eliminate Undertaker. As soon as they dump him, Hawk turns around and gets tossed by Hercules (I think).

I heard that guy Bator from Mongolia is a real master.

That's right, I went there.

Watching Sting vs. Flair from the first Clash. I think I've gone into detailed opinion on this before, but it's worth sitting through again. With a 1988 mindset, Sting had absolutely no chance in winning the title, and you can see throughout the match he can keep up with Flair, but he doesn't have anything to put him away. Giving Sting a great performance elevates him further up the card, but also still shows who the world champion deserves to be, while making him look beatable and incredibly difficult to defeat at the same time, if that makes any sense.

I was going to sit through and recap Vintage Collection (9/30 episode), but other than the goofy "Game Show" style selection with a bunch of gimmick matches as choices, here's what we got...

1. Earthquake vs. Yokozuna; Sumo Match (5/94)
2. Henry Godwinn vs. Hunter Hearst Helmsley; Hog Pen Match (IYH 5)
3. Howard Finkel vs. Harvey Wippleman; Tuxedo Match (1/95)
4. Ahmed Johnson/British Bulldog Arm-Wrestling Match (4/96)
5. Undertaker vs. Goldust; Casket Match (Beware of Dog)

That's three "matches" that weren't really wrestling, a shitty casket match from the worst feud of 1996 (WWF), and HOG/Helmsley walks away with the honor being the best match on the show, and even that wasn't very good. What a waste of time for anyone to sit through.

I don't have a long list of things in wrestling that get me angry when thinking back about angles, but whenever I watch or think of anything to do with the Sting/nWo angle leading up to Starrcade '97, I can't help but think what brain-dead moron fucked that up? How do you blow the easiest payoff in the history of wrestling? How? Why? I don't care if the nWo was still "popular" with the "cool people", that was it. That was the night and that was the moment to make everything right, storyline wise for the WCW. The big finish. And they fucked it up harder than anything has ever been fucked up before or since. Screw the "Invasion" angle. There wasn't 15 months of hype behind that, and it was dead from day 1.

Why didn't they just run a match similar to Hogan/Luger that they ran in August of that year? Sting no sells the Leg Drop, beats the piss out of everything wearing an nWo shirt. Scorpion Death Drop, he goes for the pin, lets up right before the 3. Locks on the Scorpion Death Lock, Hogan taps and Sting is the new champion.

Probably because they really, really, REALLY wanted to work-in Bret Hart. Thus, the weird count and the re-start. Bret's WCW schtick at the time was: "nobody knows more than me what's it like to get screwed by a referee".

I'm guessing they wanted to get some heat from the most controversial wrestling angle of the year (Montreal Screw Job)... plus they had just paid a bunch'a money to sign Bret Hart. Another example where trying to borrow or build-off of the competition's storylines is a bad idea.

If Bret never goes to WCW, the ending might've been different. I remember there was a lot of fan joking that Bret might've gone to WCW as the ultimate WWF double-agent or spy; sent to destroy the company. Almost as soon as he got there, they began going downhill.

Why not have Hart help fight off the nWo as Sting gets the victory?
