Manabu Nakanishi vs. Toru Yano

Not much to say here as this match was fun but not memorable. What I really loved about this match is they just made Nakanishi seemed so heavy. When Yano would lift him they did it in such a way that it looked like he was just lifting a huge mass of humanity. Nakanishi won with a german suplex.

Jesus Rowe,

Why did you have to remind me that Al Wilson existed?

Jesus Rowe,

Why did you have to remind me that Al Wilson existed?

:P Because I can't stand suffering alone.

More G-1,

Mr. Strong press slammed Prince Devitt into the third row of the crowd. Nice!

And to think, we had that and Katie Vick and HLA all running at the same time.

Al Wilson stunk, but the whole "Triple H having sex with a corpse" bit really had me question ever watching Raw again. The next week he cuts a classy promo that pretty much is saying fans can shove it up their asses if they didn't like it.

You forgot Dawn Marie fucking him to death and their brawl at the funeral that knocked the casket over.

Thank you for reminding me. I'm going to go throw up.

Watching the 2013 Hall of Fame ceremony On Demand, and I'm hoping WWE does some audio sweetening (i.e. remove obnoxious chants). Also, what are the odds we see Hall of Famer The Brooklyn Brawler in the next five years?

I did catch the Tomohiro Ishii vs. Katsuyori Shibata match from NJPW that Meltzer gave *****. It certainly has a fast pace and a real sense of urgency and they drop one another on their head several times. It's one of those "You hit me, now I hit you" slap-fests too. It may be that I don't watch enough NJPW to appreciate the context or the feud, but I'm not feeling the full monty rating whatsoever.

As much as we just gave Foley crap for being a bit too into himself, I do admit that him winning the title from the Rock on Raw was probably the best title change I've ever seen. It still gives me goosebumps.

I'm not a big Shibata guy but I haven't seen that match yet. I'm guessing it won't be ***** but pretty damn close. People I trust thought Cena/Bryan and Lesnar/Punk were better.

I don't think you need to watch a lot of New Japan to appreciate it but it helps. It's like anything really, the more you watch, the more you understand the quirks of what they're doing.

Seriously though, those last 4 months of 2002 had some of the absolute worst shit on both brands. I know Heyman somehow convinced people everything bad on Smackdown wasn't his fault but the matches were the only thing saving the entire product that year.

I honestly don't know why I fucking limped through another 4 years of this shit. Looking back, there was nothing redeeming about 2002 as a year. It all sucked minus some good matches.

I don't know how I survived that Kane/ShaneO feud either. It still pisses me off that they never did a Goldberg/Kane feud, that would have been money!

More G-1:

Go Shiozaki vs. Yujiro Takahashi

Meh to this one. It was one of those "I hit my stuff, you hit your stuff" wankfest kind of match I hate. No real drama here as they weren't going to bring Go in and then job him to someone on Takahashi's level. It wasn't terrible or anything but not memorable.

That closes out disc 1 of Night 1. What's left on deck for this weekend:

Karl Anderson vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tetsuya Naito vs. Togi Makabe
Yuji Nagata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

OK, I can see why the crowd kind of became a bit "rude" during Maria Menununeunos speech inducting Bob Backlund. It's long-winded, boring, awkwardly delivered, and seems like she simply plucked his bio off Wikipedia and spouted off basic nonsense like "he has a wife."
