I currently have every episode of Superstars and Wrestling Challenge from 1986-1993. Yay for me I guess. I also came into a ton of Memphis television the past couple of weeks. |

Memphis TV sounds interesting. Any specific time period or just a lot of random goodness? |

I bought 1984-1986 to start off with. That will cover Randy Savage and the Poffos run, the Rock N Roll Express, Rick Rude and King Kong Bundy coming in and Bam Bam Bigelow's run. That's all 156 episodes of the tv from that time frame. My goal is to get all of the 1979-1997 Memphis tv eventually. But there are other things I want to get. |

Where did you buy this? I only followed that in the Apter mags, though I started with the wWF in '83 and the NWA in '84. |

It's sad seeing how much Andre fell apart from the summer of 86 to Wrestlemania III. I have so much shit to watch right now. I need to get on a schedule to make some progress. |

First episode of Worldwide watched. Tully Blanchard, Ron Bass and Black Bart beat Tommy Lane, Lee Ramsey and David Diamond The Barbarian beat Joel Deaton The Assassin beat Curtis Harrison Magnum TA beat Doug Vines The matches were not super great on this episode. The six man match was brutally long. The Barbarian match was too long as well. Dusty cut a pretty passionate promo on the Russians while they showed clips of Ivan Koloff vs. Don Kernodle in a capture the flag match. It was not as good as other Dusty promos but okay. Ron Bass and Black Bart talked about how JJ Dillion was finding them some backup because people keep ganging up on them. Ricky Steamboat talked about challenging Ric Flair for the World Title in 1985. Funny because he's gone pretty soon after this. Paul Jones talked about the Barbarian and Superstar Billy Graham. He talked about how awesome Graham was while they showed clips of him against Brian Adidas in a match. NWA World Tag Team Champions Dusty Rhodes and Manny Fernandez talked about the Road Warriors to start the show in a pretty good promo. NWA Television Champion Tully Blanchard talked about his search for the Perfect 10 and they even provided an address for ladies to mail for this. I wonder how many nudie pics they got out of that? There were also some bumper promos for local shows. There was a good one from Ric Flair and the Koloffs during these. Overall, Not a spectacular episode here. I have a good feel for what's going on in the promotion now and that's a good thing. But this episode was a little slow. The matches were way too long for squashes. |

1/12/1985 World Wide Wrestling: Magnum TA and Manny Fernandez beat Joel Deaton and Jeff Sword Steve Casey beat Ben Alexander Ron Bass beat Mike Davis Buzz Tyler beat Mike Fever Nikita Koloff beat Tommy Lane The Barbarian and Superstar Billy Graham beat Mark Fleming and Sam Houston Overall, much better matches this time out. The Bass/Davis match was a quick and energetic little bout. The other stuff was short and inoffensive. Dusty Rhodes came out and talked about Tully Blanchard looking for his perfect 10. They do a video package of a Tully date with a potential Perfect 10. If you've seen the really early episodes of World Championship Wrestling from April of this year you've seen these little videos. They did a ton of hype for Flair vs. Wahoo on this show. Wahoo turned heel and attacked Flair. Flair cut a fucking great promo on Wahoo right after the attack. They had about 3 Wahoo promos, 2 Flair promos and that bit of angle. It was a bit of overkill but it really sold that match as being a super hate filled brawl. Ricky Steamboat has interjected himself into the Don Kernodle vs. the Russians feud. They showed highlights of Steamboat ripping the door off of a cage in a pretty cool moment. They also recap Nikita Koloff attacking Steamboat at another show. Dick Slater attacked Ron Bass after his match and applied a figure four and refused to break the hold. Pretty cool angle there. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode. It felt like a lot happened in this one and the promos especially were really good this week. |

I was going over my top tag teams of the 80s because I was bored the other night. I was a little surprised how few WWE teams were even in the running for my top 10. I always regarded this era warmly because there were a lot of teams and the division was treated seriously but then it didn't hold up well when I started thinking about it in a more critical way. When you say best tag team of the 80s I think you go straight to Rock N Roll Express, Arn/Ole, Arn/Tully, both versions of the Midnight Exress, Fantastics, the Freebirds and Road Warriors. I think depending on what you've seen you would also throw in teams like the Fabulous Ones and Briscos. The only WWE teams I was even considering for my top 10 were the Rockers, Brainbusters and Hart Foundation. So because of that I'm really rethinking my opinions on the WWF 80s tag team division. |

Worldwide 1/19/1985 Manny Fernandez beat Doug Vines Assassin #1 and Steve Casey beat Ben Alexander and Jeff Sword Inferno #1 beat Dick Slater by DQ Superstar Billy Graham beat American Eagle in a full nelson challenge Ron Bass and Black Bart beat Denny Brown and Tommy Lane NWA Television Title Match: Tully Blanchard © beat Mike Davis The Blanchard/Davis match was pretty good and everything else was pretty short and inoffensive. This week featured the debut of Baby Doll as Tully's new valet. They did a video of her arriving at the air port and they did an interview after his match. On the Tully train, Dusty Rhodes kicked off the program and he has $10,000 in silver dollars so that he can challenge Tully for the TV Title down the road. We got some more promos and interviews with Wahoo McDaniel. This back and forth with Ric Flair is some good shit. He's playing the perfect bitter heel here and the segments have been really good. Terry Funk showed up to collect the bounty that JJ Dillon had placed on the head of Dick Slater. Terry Funk, Ron Bass and Black Bart beat the absolute piss out of him at the end of his match. Funk was in crazy old man mode here which is awesome. He did an interview segment that was really great after the Slater beatdown. Buzz Tyler was upset that Black Bart tore up his favorite sweatshirt on a previous episode. Good episode this time out. Some excellent interviews and the beatdown of Dick Slater was some good shit. |

World Wide Wrestling: 1/26/1985 Buzz Tyler beat Doug Vines Magnum TA beat Mike Fever Ron Bass and Black Bart beat Denny Brown and Frank Lang Wahoo McDaniel beat Sam Houston Superstar Billy Graham and the Barbarian beat American Starship (Dan Spivey and Scott Hall) Ivan Koloff beat Lee Ramsey The Wahoo/Houston match was a super entertaining squash. Wahoo really knows how to lay a beating on someone. The other matches were decent enough. This was the go home show for the show with Flair defending the World Title against Wahoo. So a lot of bumper promos for that match and the Kernodle/Nikita Capture the Flag match. JJ Dillion was out and said that Ox Baker relied to his wanted poster on Dick Slater. So we'll be treated to an appearance from him in the near future. Dick Slater had a retort and basically just talked about how tough he is. I find this angle intriguing and it's cool seeing Dillion bring in outside forces to screw with Slater. The Magnum TA/Wahoo McDaniel feud started kicking into high gear here. Magnum wants a shot because he beat Wahoo at an earlier date and Wahoo is blowing him off saying that he hasn't earned a shot yet. Wahoo has really been fun through these first 4 episodes. It's really a bummer that he won't factor in when they get World Championship Wrestling in April. Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll were out. Blanchard talked about how he has an upcoming title defense against Ricky Steamboat. I'm not sure how the $10,000 gimmick came about though. I guess Tully only puts the belt up if his opponent puts the money on the line. Another good episode this week. I've been digging the hell out of this show through the first month. |

The thing that makes Wahoo so great on these shows is you get the impression that he believes every word coming out of his mouth. He really is that bitter and feels like Flair blew him off after helping him out. Likewise, you get the impression that he truly doesn't see that what he's doing to Magnum TA is the exact same thing that he's complaining that Flair's doing to him. It's just some great heel stuff. |
