I went and saw Foley's show today. Nothing new as far as content if you've read his books but still a really fun time. I was in the front row and probably 2 feet away from him for a majority of the show. I got to meet him afterwards, got a signed picture and my picture taken with him. Overall, a great evening. |

So, I've been listening to a lot of Steve Austin's show on YouTube. His two-part interview with Tommy Dreamer is fantastic. Some highlights: - Tommy Dreamer, as a WWE agent/office guy at the time, brought six strippers back from a club once to a WWE hotel room and tried to get Matt Striker laid. He did, but Striker busted way too soon so Tommy coerced the women into having sex with each other so Striker could recharge. Striker then scored with four more of them. Also, a bunch of guys started smoking weed, which Tommy doesn't indulge in. So, when a hotel worker came knocking, Tommy was able to send them off without a problem. Also, Dreamer is happily married. And was during this whole ordeal, as well. - Tommy Dreamer was booking an ECW show, and a bunch of ECW principles didn't show up; No Sandman, no Rhino, no Little Guido, no Raven. Dreamer booked around the missing guys until a distraught Rhino came into the office and told Dreamer that Sandman had "died". As it turns out, Sandman had overdosed on drugs. Rhino and Guido had managed to resuscitate him long enough to get him to a hospital. Bill Alphonso wound up walking to the arena that night, after being loaded with the car's drug supply to avoid an investigation. Sandman would later return and perform on the show, after having an emergency adrenaline needle IV'd into him only a couple hours earlier. - Tommy Dreamer's main events on WWE's ECW revival scored the highest ratings of anything else on the program. Notably, Dreamer scored a 1.8 with Kozlov and held it for three segments of a one-hour show. - Tommy Dreamer was, for reasons Dreamer can't seem to explain, Christian's fake-tan applier. Christian would text Dreamer to his hotel room to "do his lower back". - Tommy Dreamer is a self-admitted slob and used to drive germophobe roommate Rhino crazy. Dreamer admitted to pissing in the sink and would dive ass naked on Rhino's bed to annoy him. Rhino, to his credit, would re-fold the bathroom towels after using them and Dreamer would use them to dry off "Getting Rhino ass all over his face" in the process. - Dreamer's taken so many rough bumps to the ear, that his left ear is in danger of falling off if any more damage is done to it. - Dreamer had Abyss signed to the WWE but TNA bought him back. The original plan in 2003 was to bring in Abyss to work The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 19. Instead they got 'Taker vs. A-Train/ Big Show. Blech. |

I definitely saw that when it first aired. I remember the Blanchard/Davis match and the full nelson challenge. |

Like most "shoot interviews" with old road stories, about half sound funny to me and the other half make me think: "this guy is an immature degenerate". |

See, that's the cool thing about Dreamer. He claims to have never been a big drinker or drug user. He just liked sex and women. So, he claims, that's why he's alive, and still able to remember, all this stuff. |

Prediction time: Roman Reigns is going to be one of WWE's rare "well-pushed but never quite "pops"" flops similar to Lex Luger and Dino Bravo. The evidence is all there. Reigns, like Luger and Bravo, came in and made a big impact and cemented himself early (along with Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins) as a major player. The WWF cemented both Luger and Dino Bravo early as something important. So far Reigns- similarly to Lex Luger (not so much Bravo), has been railroaded to baby face status and shot to the moon with a few big wins. Hell, Reigns even has his own "strongly pushed foreign monster heel" to beat down the line. In 1993, Ludvig Borga was being groomed as Luger's next big conquest. The WWE now is pushing Rusev as a major threat. If Reigns knocks off Rusev, Reigns looks like a monster. Same deal. Also, just like Lex, Reigns seems to be a "choker" in title matches. Luger won by count-out against Yokozuna and could never seem to get the job done to pick up the title. Reigns has, to this point, choked in two big title matches and looked as little like a legit monster as possible. WWE needs to pull the trigger on Reigns sooner rather than later, so they don't have another Lex on their hands. |

World Wide Wrestling: 2/2/1985 Magnum TA and Ricky Steamboat beat Frank Lang and Joe Young Don Kernodle and Rocky Kernodle beat Doug Vines and Ben Alexander by DQ Superstar Billy Graham beat Ron Bossi Manny Fernandez beat Joel Deaton Dick Slater beat Inferno Ivan and Nikita Koloff beat Lee Ramsey and Gene Ligon Overall, pretty short matches this week. Nothing really stood out as awesome match wise. Ivan and Nikita Koloff attacked Kernodle during his match and tried to steal back the flag. Kernodle fought both of them off for a really long time until Magnum TA and Ricky Steamboat ran out to even things up. The crowd was red hot for this part. Later in the show Magnum TA and Ricky Steamboat had Kernodle come out. Steamboat promised to have his back from now on. Magnum TA talked about Wahoo McDaniel refusing to put the U.S. Title on the line against him. Dick Slater was out to further the JJ Dillion feud. Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll were out. He was talking about his upcoming No DQ match against Dusty Rhodes. Tully said that stipulation suited him just fine and that he would gladly take Dusty's money. Solid show this week. Not as memorable as some past week's but nothing horrible either. |

World Wide Wrestling: 2/9/1985 Steve Casey beat the Golden Terror Dory Funk Jr. beat Brian Adidas Don Kernodle and Ricky Steamboat beat Ivan and Nikita Koloff Manny Fernandez beat Frank Lang The Steambaot/Kernodle vs. Russians match was pretty meh as a match. There was a lot of headlock going on in that one. Kernodle got the U.S. flag back but Kruschev attacked and the Russians left with the flag. The crowd was again red hot for this match. JJ Dillon has a new bounty hunter to take out Dick Slater and that's Dory Funk Jr. Dillon thinks that a more classical wrestler will be able to accomplish what Terry Funk and Ox Baker could not. He thinks Dory can break Dick Slater's leg with the Spinning Toe Hold. Dick Slater responded later on and said he noticed Dillon is getting a little more gray and that he loves seeing him spend so much money to take him out. Magnum TA was out again and talked about how he wanted a shot at the U.S. Title. They recapped a match between Dusty/Tully that went to a time limit draw. Afterwards Baby Doll got right in Dusty's face. Tully was out and ripped on Dusty for messing with his Perfect 10. They both said that Dusty won't lay his hands on her. Pretty good episode this time around. The Dillon/Slater feud has been good on a week to week basis. They're also pushing the Wahoo/TA feud forward quite nicely. Towards the end of the month is where things start to get shaken up as Georgia guys start creeping in and they get things ready for the debut of World Championship Wrestling. |

World Wide Wrestling: 2/16/1985 Nikita Koloff and Krusher Kruschev beat Mark Fleming and Gene Ligon Dory Funk Jr. beat Denny Brown Manny Fernandez beat Joel Deaton The Barbarian beat Frank Lang NWA Television Title Match: Tully Blanchard © beat Buzz Tyler Some good wrestling this week. Blanchard/Tyler was a surprisingly good match. Funk/Brown also delivered a really solid tv bout. Blanchard really brings his A game for this TV Title bouts no matter who the opponent is. I didn't think much of Buzz Tyler going into this match but damn if they didn't put on a really good match. Magnum TA was out and they showed him saving Ric Flair from a chair beating at the hands of Wahoo. Wahoo did steal the NWA World Title belt. This lead into another Ric Flair promo and he was super pissed. Great intense promo there. Dory Funk Jr. tried to break Denny Brown's leg with the Spinning Toe Hold until Dick Slater came out for the save. Dusty Rhodes came out and got into it with Tully Blanchard and Baby Doll at the end of the show. Their big TV Title showdown is the next night. The bumper promos were pushing the Greensboro show pretty hard. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Ricky Steamboat, Dory Funk Jr. and Black Bart vs. Dick Slater and Manny Fernandez and Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard. Overall, really good show this week. Excellent wrestling and the Dusty/Tully feud picked up some nice intensity to it. I'm really digging this as it's just amazingly compelling on a week to week basis. |

I guess you have to give points for trying to put an angle together, but Rick Martel and Brutus Beefcake feuded over Martel claiming Beefcake had no sense of style or fashion? Wow... now that I think of it, what kind of gimmick was The Model? Are we supposed to take him seriously? |

I thought Martel got a lot of mileage out of that awful gimmick. But no idea what they were thinking. I'm watching them try to debut the Honky Tonk Man as a face right now. |

Martel was so over the top it's hard to hate his performance, but man was that character dead in the water when it came to significant storylines. Was Honky seriously being pushed as a babyface? I never get around to watching TV from that particular time period and just can't imagine a serious attempt at a face run. |

Yeah, I've watched the first 5 episodes of Superstars and Wrestling Challenge in 1986. He was cutting promos on Paul Orndorff and Hogan was even cutting promos giving him the Hogan seal of approval. |
