Speaking of Zenk...

Golly. And here I thought we were talking about Ken Patera.

His site is great... as a Geocities "homepage" in 1997. I dunno, but embedding videos from YouTube or WWE.com into a free blog and calling it a "channel" or "NamedAfterYourselfTV" is weak.

Pretty fun Ric Flair vs. Sam Houston match on the 5/18/85 World Championship Wrestling. Houston really excels at providing entertaining matches with the top card heels.

I'm watching WrestleMania XV again. I swear, I will never willingly watch this show again after tonight. When the Brawl For All is the 2nd best match, you know it's the worst WrestleMania ever.

I mentioned Zenk's Usos-ish offense a couple posts back.

Today was an adventurous occasion. I burned a copy of the 1995 Super J Cup to DVD and watched it... with my girlfriend, who is barely considered a casual fan of the modern WWE product, and a casual fan of WCW during the mid 90's. As much as I enjoyed most of the product, I have to admit hearing some of her reactions was just as entertaining.

- Of the 14 participants, she only really recognized Chris Benoit (Wild Pegasus) and Chris Jericho (Lionheart), and had vague memories of Ultimo Dragon. For the life of me, I couldn't get her to say "Jushin Liger" properly. She simply refered to him as "Thunder." To be fair, there were a handful of wrestlers I didn't recognize, and couldn't understand their names in introductions.

- The saga of Gedoh. During his 2nd Round match with Dos Caras, he tries to remove the mask, thus making him the biggest villain in her eyes. During the entire Semi-Finals with Benoit, she was cheering relentlessly for Benoit to not only beat him, but knock his "midget head off". Then went on a 5-minute rant about how much Gedoh sucks and how Benoit should've win. THEN... during the Finals with Liger, she was rooting for Gedoh because he's the underdog, and came to that conclusion because in almost every match, he would get his ass kicked non-stop for the first 3-5 minutes.

I don't remember if it was during the Jericho or Gedoh match, but she made a remark that was along the lines of "Benoit looks like he's going to murder someone." I naturally had to shoot a "you realize what you just said?" look.

She got a HUGE kick out of Jericho dropping F-Bombs like crazy, and calling Benoit a "motherfucker" to get heat.

Was really into the stiff strikes and near falls. Almost every near fall seemed believable, and since I've never seen any of these matches, I was into most of them too, specifically the later rounds.

You should get a copy of the J Crown Tournament from 96. There's an insane Ultimo Dragon vs. Shinjiro Ohtani match.

Also what did you think of the Misterio vs. Psicosis match? I think it was probably their best match.

It was really good, but by that point, I was a bit burned out, since I watched all 4 hours in a straight shot. Spectacular, jaw-dropping spots, for sure. I expected good, maybe 3-stars, and it ended up being one of the best Psicosis matches I've ever seen.

All the first round matches were good, but short. Gran Naniwa vs. Damian felt a bit more comedy/playing to the crowd, Ohtani vs. Mochizuki (unfamiliar with him) had some nasty striking and submission work, Ultimo Dragon v. Funaki was all about mat work. Didn't really get into Gedo/Motegi (another one I didn't know), Dos Caras vs. El Samurai was OK, but I felt Dos Caras was a bit out of place, and Jericho (yes, I know, he was "Lionheart") vs. Nakajima was OK, too.

For the 2nd Round, really like Naniwa vs. Liger, LOVED Benoit vs. Jericho and Ultimo Dragon vs. Ohtani, and was so-so on Dos Caras vs. Gedo, but they did a decent job of getting Gedo heat and the only tainted victory, probably for Dos Caras to save face.

Loved Liger vs. Ultimo, and Benoit vs. Gedo was probably ***1/2, just didn't care for Gedo going to the finals. It was a big surprise to me, not knowing the results, so when Benoit did a clean job, it was like "woah, maybe this guy is winning it."

Liger vs. Gedo was good, but unspectacular, but again, I was blown up at this point.

Next time I have a day to myself, I have the 1994 Super J Tournament ready to go. I do know the end result of that, so I won't have any surprise factors for the big matches.

Damian and Naniwa were calling spots from popular wrestlers and then imitating the moves. It was total comedy.

I think the 94 J Cup is a better top to bottom show than the 95 is. Better final and semis but probably a weaker first round.

I honestly didn't catch on to Damian's antics until the end of the match, and then I was like "oh... that's why he was screaming so-and-so's name." This was the next to last spot before he called out Muta and went for a moonsault when it finally hit me. :P

If you want to dig a little deeper. DDT is a really great Japanese promotion.

I know it's Wikipedia and probably doesn't tell a perfectly accurate tale, but it sounds like an interesting promotion. No idea what to look for, though... recommendations/links to get me started?

The 1/25/15 show has a really good match for the Extreme Title belt. You can get it as a download off IVP for a $1.39. They give you the ISO so you can dump it on a DVD easy. Anything with some form of Ibushi vs. Omega is a win.
