It's really a shame that Buddy Landell ruined his prime with drugs. He is legit the best thing ever watching the 1985 NWA TV. Great promo and just awesome in the ring. He is a weekly highlight of things.

I'm at the end of July now. The talent just started flooding in towards the end of May. The Sawyers, Rock N Roll Express, Midnight Express, Terry Taylor, Kevin Sullivan and I'm probably missing a few guys.

I agree about Landell. If I remember correctly he was 23-24 at that point.

Yeah. 23 and didn't really clean up his act for 5ish years after getting fired. He's great in SMW as well. Not as good in the ring but still a good talker.

He made it WWF for a short while in '96 or so. Came in as the graduate student under Dean Douglas's leadership.

Was beaten rather quickly by Ahmed Johnson at an In your house PpV.
got hurt (I think it was his knee). that was it in the WWF.

They gave him a long (and incredibly boring) match with Bob Holly to get him over with the crowd, but hurt his knee. I think he said they were going to feed him to Bret Hart, but the injury killed his chances with the company. I honestly didn't see him going anywhere beyond a quick job or two, considering his look, style, and what WWF was pushing at the time.

I was just getting back into wrestling around this time (late 1995). When I heard that the WWF was using Landell and promoted a title shot against Bret Hart, I thought their intent might've been to play-off of the "Nature Boy" thing as a shot at WCW.

Either by saying: "we've got the REAL Nature Boy and we're doing it better"...or, they could've made him look like a complete dolt. "HahaHA! That Nature Boy stuff won't cut it with the New Generation of the WWF".

My guess would've been the latter.

To go along with that, I think Nikita Koloff is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. Great character and I could watch him destroy jobbers for hours on end.

I've watched January through July 1985 so far. I have all the Crockett TV ready to go for 1986 when I get to it. I even have the Sunday Edition of World Championship Wrestling.

Tully Blanchard is your new U.S. Champion on the last round of television. We're on a crash course to the greatest cage match of all time. Tully has to be the best worker of 1985. He's the master of having a good 8 minute match with just about anyone on a weekly basis.

I've seen this World Championship Wrestling shows before but the World Wide Wrestling episodes are new to me. I love 1985 Crockett. I really enjoyed how they brought the Rock N Roll Express in and had them beat the Russians on TV in their first match.

I can't wait to get to 1986. I even got some fan cams of some arena events.

I'm watching the 4-23-90 episode of Prime Time Wrestling. I only mention this because most of the matches featured include the PBP combination of Vince McMahon and FRED BLASSIE. I don't think Blassie had been on TV for 2-3 years, and I only first remember seeing him for the first time at the 1996 Slammy Awards. I'm sure they trotted him out for at least one of those Primetime episodes when they switched to having a live audience and doing goofball skits to make up for replacing Heenan and Monsoon as co-hosts. Heck, they even brought in Genichiro Tenryu for an episode. I'm sure it was a business deal with cross-promoting SWS, but I guarantee less than 1% of the WWF audience knew of that arrangement.

Oh, and I still get a kick out of Gorilla referring to the Terry Garvin School-of-Self-Defense in regards to the Brooklyn Brawler.

Tommy (on behalf of Eddie) and Doug Gilbert are suing WWE for their likenesses being used on the WWE network

I loved Eddie, but I doubt this will hold up in court

I don't see how their case has an ounce of merit. They own the footage, they can use it.

From the weekly USWA TV in early 1993. At the 5:00 mark, Sweet Sapphire makes an appearance. The stuff you find on YouTube when you're bored.
