1999 had a shallow roster, but the match was still a wreck. 1. There's 2 instances where nobody is in the ring, so someone comes out and stands around for 90 seconds of dead air time. 2. One of the few viable contenders eliminates himself within 90 seconds of entering (Kane). 3. Undertaker is kept out when they were in dire need of main event cred, but is perfectly fine to use to do a cheap elimination of Mabel. MABEL. 4. The first 1/3 of the match the focus is barely on the ring, its on what Austin and McMahon are doing backstage. Really shits on the loose rules of the match. Then McMahon comes back a half hour later and sit at commentary for another 15. Austin comes back from being taken out of the arena via ambulance to rejoin the match after missing almost 40 minutes of the match. 5. Austin's bounty is hardly a factor. Nobody goes out of their way to go for him beyond 5 seconds. 5B. The focus is more "screwing over Austin and winning the $100K" than "winning a shot at the title at WrestleMania." 6. Even the announcers treated it like a joke. Lawler mockingly picking Blackman and Gangrel to win was a not-so-subtle way in saying "nobody but Austin should be logically winning, unless Vince somehow books himself to win." 7. Vince books himself to win, then forfeits the title match the next night, then makes a match with Austin for the same title shot he just passed on. It may be a golden turd, but to me, a turd by any other color is still a turd. Edit: 1995 sucks just as hard, but for different reasons. The roster was way worse than 1999 could ever dream to be. Well fucking Dunn got spots in the Rumble. |

I'll add something else to that list.... Michael Cole on commentary. If you think he's bad today (which he is) he was really unbearable then. |

Just got done watching the Raw from June 03 where Kane unmasks. I'm curious on what you guy's thought of it and do you think the unmasking should of been done differently? |

I thought, short of using makeup and visual effects to actually make him look horribly burned and scarred, they should have kept up with the whole "mentally scarred" thing and booked him better. Let him have one; just one match with Shane where he wrecks Shane's shit. Have him squash Rob Van Damn in the cage. Build him up. Really go for it. Meanwhile, you've got Goldberg on another opposite, parallel path, being built as the unstoppable God Monster he should have been. At Summer Slam 2003, Goldberg wins the belt in the Chamber. On the undercard, Vince is there with an army of jobbers and scrubs, anybody he can get his hands on. He's sick of Kane. Kane Tombstoned Linda, beat Shane in a Last Man Standing match, and Vince is ready for a fight. Not a match. A fight. Kane hits the ring, disposes of the riff raff and hits the Tombstone on Vince. Vince gets stretchered out. Eventually, Vince comes back and tries to position Goldberg as his new enforcer. Triple H tries to manipulate Kane into taking out Goldberg, so that Triple H can better position himself for a title shot. Vince catches wind of his son-in-law trying to negotiate with the monster who nearly crippled his wife and son, and puts Triple H in a triple threat against Goldberg and Kane. Triple H has to over come two of the most destructive forces in wrestling to win his title back. And really just survive. |

I would have preferred the unmasking to involve Taker in some way but he was still doing the biker gimmick on Smackdown during that time. They could of even brought in Paul Bearer for it. I did like however how he was portrayed afterwards with him being all crazy and dangerous so to speak. I remember tuning into Raw just to see what he was going to do next. From ''burning'' JR to tombstoning Linda Mcmahon, it was must see tv and a nice refreshing change to his character. |

It still pisses me off all these years later how they handled Lex Luger in 93. He had the perfect gimmick with the Narcissist deal but by the Summer they had to turn him into Hogan 2.0 and we all know how that went. It was the perfect gimmick for a guy like him. He could of been a decent IC champ or hell even WWF champion with that character. Total drop the ball on the part of Vince. It was 93 but he still HAD to have that Hogan type smh. |

I'm a little bit of the opposite, actually. The Narcissist gimmick wasn't well suited for Luger, IMO. With the mirror and everything, it was based on how physically "perfect" Luger was. Which was weird, because he was brought in to feud with Mr. Perfect... a guy who never claimed to have a perfect physique. When Luger became Hogan 2.0, I thought it was a good move. Ever since he debuted in the mid-80's, fans (and especially the Apter mags) kinda' felt that he was the heir apparent to Hogan. It was a little cheesy, at times ("The Lex Express is coming to Toys r' Us"!), but it was a better use of Luger than the Narcissist. Now, what they did with him after that--- yeah, that all stunk. He absolutely should've won the WWF title at SummerSlam. Having him not win it and celebrate like a goof after winning by COUNTOUT kinda' killed him. The time was right to pull the trigger at SummerSlam; not a few months later or (as some believe), WrestleMania X. |

"Narcissist" had potential, had he feuded with slobs like Duggan, but his first program with Perfect made zero sense. As mentioned, Perfect never fawned over his physique, he bragged about his performance, and backed it up. Running down a fat midcarder for not having the most desirably physique is one thing, but making shit up for the sake of it always irks me. |

Remaking my set of DVD's for the weekly product in 1990 for WWF, adding in more interview segments. In one event center promo, they're hyping Roberts and Warrior vs. Dibiase and Akeem. Roberts says "who do you think I was getting for a partner, Steve Lombardi?" Just thought that was funny. |

Any of you guys listen to Bruce Prichard's podcast? Next to Cornette's, it's becoming my favorite podcast to listen to. Listened to the WM 7 episode and it was very entertaining. Him and his co-host gave a backstory on all the matches on the card as well as facts and stuff. His latest episode is all about the PTW years which I'm definitely going to check out. |

Bruce Prichard comes across as someone who still insists on kayfabe and working people. I might give him a listen, but he always rubbed me the wrong way. |

Harmless, and quickly overexposed. He was fine as an undercard goof, then they fed him to Triple H. Death. |

I would of had Regal befriend him for awhile before eventually turning on him. Regal as a face was just wrong on many levels. |
