Man Mountain Rock. Jean Pierre Laffitte. Hunter Hearst Helmsley. All clowns I'm sure won't survive 1995. He might've been shit in the ring, but Sid really helps add some depth to the roster, and it was cool to see him squash guys. Having him work competitive long matches is a different story. Sid squashing Aldo Montoya = fun. Sid vs. Diesel for 10-minutes = cruel and unusual punishment. |

More newcomers! Rad Radford (Louie Spicolli, WWF's answer to grunge), Skip and Sunny a.k.a The Body Donnas, and TECHNO TEAM 2000. I always forget Erik Watts had a WWF run. |

I forgot about them. They get decent TV time, but they never hyped their arrival, never explained what they were supposed to be (easy answer: Mountain Men!), and randomly give them Dutch Mantel as a manager who never cut promos. |

That theme was awesome. The gimmick had potential it's a shame Nash ended his career with that botched powerbomb. |

They gave the Waylon Mercy character quite a bit of time to be introduced to fans through vignettes. You can tell when they had plans for something and when they didn't. Mantaur? No vignettes. No push. Jean Pierre Laffite? A few weeks of vignettes, decent push and got to feud with Bret Hart. Blu Twins? No vignettes. Mostly an afterthought in a weak division. Hunter Hearst Helmsley? About a month of vignettes. Undefeated streak for most of 1995. Rad Radford? Bo vignettes. Treated as a JTTS. Skip and Sunny? A month of vignettes, mild push before they soured on Candido. |

More signs of bad things to come... 1. WWF's syndication deals continue to evaporate, with Superstars losing networks across the country, and Wrestling Challenge being dropped completely. Challenge was always the B-Show (or in my opinion, a C-Show or lower since the debut of Raw in '93), but 1995 it turned into nothing but squash matches. Angles weren't developed, they rarely featured superstar vs. superstar content, and was easily must-miss TV, especially since it ran head-to-head with the Action Zone in my area. 2. The Action Zone quickly went from a must-see show with featured matches with main event caliber talent to... you guessed it, JUST ANOTHER SHOW. The star vs. star matches quickly turned into the more common "midcarder vs. JTTS" scenarios, and it was always mostly a highlight show wrapped around that. They stopped featuring new content in July, and with a few exceptions, wouldn't feature new content at all, except for wrap-around talking segments with Todd and "Dok Hendrix." 3. The roster depth is so sad that Barry Horowitz is getting a light push. My one, main gripe is that they tried to emulate what they did with Sean Waltman. 1. Sean Waltman was an unknown to the casual audience, while Horowitz has been a regularly appearing jobber since 1987. 2. They did the big victory over Razor Ramon in front of a SMART AUDIENCE (the Manhattan Crowd was mostly smark fans) and instantly gave the illusion to casual viewers that he's a cool guy. Piping in cheers for Horowitz beating Chris Candido in front of a dead crowd at a Challenge taping didn't have the same feel, and felt like a lame attempt at rehashing a more successful attempt. Then they turned him into Lewis from Revenge of the Nerds, and bam. Dead already. WCW picked the absolute perfect time to give the greenlight for Nitro. The product was cold, unpopular, uncool, and coasting on ideas that were successful a decade earlier, but floundering now. WCW still had Hogan on top and losing popularity by the week, but the pros of a deeper roster, better talent, and up-to-date presentation definitely made it more bearable than the weekly WWF content, what little was being produced compared to years past while WCW was still taping butt loads of footage across 4-5 different shows. |

It was hard for me to watch Superstars, after FOX got the rights to MLB games. So instead of Superstars at noon, it got moved to 4 pm. Only problem was that some games ran past that time, and I would be lucky to catch maybe the last 20-30 minutes of Superstars. |
