2013 is the year of 1st time on the ballot steroid users. Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Roger Clemens.

I say none make it. Bonds was having a HOF career even before he started using them, but I don't think he will get in.

Craig Biggio, Curt Schilling and Mike Piazza are also on for the first time. All 3 deserve it on their first shot IMO. Schilling had great playoff stats in addition to being a great starter for many years.

I don't think Schilling will get in the first year, but he will get in. His win totals aren't up there, but he had two 300-K seasons on some very ordinary Phillies teams in the late 90's. Latching on to Arizona, having three 20-win seasons and winning the World Series put him over the top.

Funny, but I remember when Schilling was traded to Houston along with Steve Finley and Pete Harnisch for Glenn Davis in early 1991. A local sportscaster went on the air saying how it was a "steal" for the Orioles to get Davis for next-to-nothing. Schilling and Finley went on to have great careers and Harnisch wasn't too shabby, either.

Sure, it sucked that Davis was hit with the injury bug, but all 3 of the "prospects" he was traded for worked out well. Usually in a deal like that, there are a few nobodies that get included.

Schilling has a shot, but I would say he'll be on the ballot for a while. Not 14 years like Bert Blylevyn (sp?), but more than 2 or 3.

Biggio definitely deserves it, too. How many players hit as well as he did, and play exceptional defense despite moving around from catcher, to middle infield, to outfield, then back to the infield?

Looks like the Yankees are trading Montero to the Mariners for Michael Pineda, with a couple of other names thrown in (I think the Yanks are giving up Hector Noesi, too). I know the Yankees want some pitching depth, and Pineda is a top prospect, but I thought Montero was nearly untouchable to them?

There had been talk that Montero's stock had dropped over the season to a degree. The Yankees don't really have a place for him because he can't play catcher with big league skills and they can't DH him every day.

Yankees also signed Pitcher Hiroki Kuroda who was a FA from the Dodgers.

Say goodbye to AJ Burnett, at least as a starter.

Rockies traded Seth Smith to the A's for pitchers Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso. Two...um.... average pitchers. However, it looks like A's fans are pissed off about losing these two guys.

Seemed somewhat questionable to me, as Smith's departure means they're putting all their eggs in the Michael Cuddyer basket. Smith gets a chance to play RF, regularly, in Oakland and having him around as a super-OF-sub/4th man in Denver wasn't exactly fair to him. There's still (fan) speculation that the Rockies will bring back Ryan Spliborghs for the 4th OF role.

So... who is Oakland troting out as their rotation? Haven't they traded every one of their pitchers?

Think they still have Dallas Braden. For now. They just re-signed... Brandon McCarthy and Joey Devine (don't worry, I didn't recognize those names either).

If it all goes to shit, former A Curt Young is around as the pitching coach (fresh from the Boston collapse) and could increase his career numbers.

If the A's lose less than 100 games, especially in a division with Texas and Los Angeles being the new Yankees and Red Sox, I'll be shocked.

I agree with you on Texas as they made it to the WS the last two years, but the Angels haven't made the playoffs the last few.

I assume you are saying this because they signed Pujols and Wilson. I really don't see what the big deal is about CJ Wilson, he is a good (not very good, not great pitcher) who sucks in the playoffs. Pujols is awesome and though 10 years was way too long of a deal, he should still be great the first 5 years of the deal

The A's do look very bad on paper, as you said.

The Yanks/Sox comparison is more about throwing money like it's confetti at free agents, on top of being either a successful/playoff bound team consistantly. The Rangers moreso in the past few years, while the Angels have been a steady threat since Sciosia took over.

So where's Prince Fielder going to land, and how much less is he going to get than expected? All the big money teams are set, all the middle market teams, for the most part, are at their maximum spending... is there really a chance the Natinals will offer another ridiculous contract to someone doomed to be a DH in 5 years (assuming anyone is dumb enough to give him a 10 year deal in the NL).

I had figured the Marlins would bid on him after they lost out on Pujols. I guess they figured
Pujols would be more popular due to the fact he is Hispanic because of Miami's large Hispanic
population. That and Pujols is the better player.

Then Miami should sign Fielder and go the old-old school route by suddenly billing him as "Cuban".
