I'd say: "let's do one HERE"... but it would peter out after 3 weeks.

Finalized my 2011 Topps "Diamond Giveaway" redemption and asked for delivery on the cards I won. Nothing too fancy, but my final selections were:
Rennie Stennett 1975
Don Gullett 1978
Alan Trammell 1981
NL Batting Leaders Card 1984
Bret Saberhagen 1996
Deion Sanders 1996
Vinny Castilla 2006
Jason Bay 2008

The Deion card I wanted because it's with the Giants. Saberhagen's is from his short stint with the Rockies. Similar reason led me to pick Castilla's 2006 card with the Padres. The only card of any real value is the Trammell. With the exception of Gullett and Bay, I "traded" for all of these cards.

Gullet's a guy I had never heard of and is a future "(Professional) Baseballer of Lesser Note". He was a 2 or 3 man in the rotation for the Reds and Yankees in the mid-to-late 70's. Think he blew his arm out, circa 1978, and his career soon ended.

Checking out Gullett's career, I'm rather surprised he was never an All-Star. He was on the "Big Red Machine" and if you look at the Reds from 71 to 76, no name on their pitching staff jumps out. Tom Seaver didn't come along until 77.

In modern news, the Pirates locked up Andrew McCutchen through 2017, with an option for 2018. I have absolutely no issues with that. Good move.

AJ Burnett's now supposed to be out for 2 to 3 months with a fractured orbital bone, suffered while laying down a bunt. Welcome back to NL.

Jamie Moyer pitched his second decent outing for the Rockies. Just go ahead and name him the Opening Day starter, already. Or at least for the home opener on April 10. There's nobody else the fans would rather see than a 49 year old freakshow on the mound.

Had no clue Moyer was still in the majors or is this a comeback after a 2 year layoff?

He had Tommy John last season, either right before the season started or right after, so he's trying to catch on. At 49... I'd bet on him making a team like Colorado.

Watched the Dodgers and Angels on MLB Network the other night. I thought it was "live", but knew something was up when it was about 8:30 local time and the sun was still overhead at the game. So I'm guessing they did some clever smoke n' mirrors and made sure not to show this particular score on their news ticker.

Yahoo! ran an article about "Jamie Moyer facts". I thought: "gee, I hope it DOESN'T revolve around his age and how so-and-so is younger than him". So I click on it and..yup...it's all about his age.
Five Fun Facts About Jamie Moyer

Even worse is that the article basically copies stuff from baseball-reference.com and retrosheet.org and calls it an "article". Especially Fact #3, which he calls "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon", when it is just BR's Oracle of Baseball.

I try to ignore Yahoo articles, especially on sports. They usually fall under 1 of 2 categories: Poorly researched or incredibly lazy writing. I'm not Mr. Grammar and spell check, but I'm sure as shit these people get paid for their columns, and it baffles me how many times I see easy spelling and grammar problems.

Yahoo's great for game recaps and basic info. It's their "columnists" that are crap.

Sure, (Professional) Baseballers of Lesser Note uses BR and Retrosheet, but I try to tell some nifty stories or personal reflections on each guy we profile. Otherwise, it'd just be a link to their stats and Wikipedia.

Oh, and (P)BBoLN will be returning soon.

I wanted to do one on Al Oliver, but he's too well-known. Just wanted to get his quote about: "3 grandslams? That's like, 10 or 12 ribbies, right there".

That reminds me... I wish I remembered who it was, but I remember one baseball article on Yahoo reflecting on a veteran, and running down all his stats... and all of them were wrong. Total HR's, most in one season, career avg... it was just error after error. One slip up is possible, wrong button, you scan quick, but everything? Eh....

Andy Pettitte signed with the Yankees, 2 mil. for one year... if he's not too rusty, I can't see this being too bad of a risk for a 5th starter. Kind of makes you wonder, will Phil Hughes be bumped to the bullpen, or Ivan Nova? Sabathia, Pineda, and Garcia are locks for the rotation, so Nova or Hughes fight for the last spot.

CBS is acting like Pettite coming back is a huge deal. I think he's a solid 5 guy but I don't think he's a difference maker. I think he doesn't hurt you but I think he's past the point of winning games.

I also think Kuroda has potential disaster written all over him.

Garcia is not a lock for the rotation. I see him as the long man in the pen.
I think Hughes goes to the pen now also.

I agree on Kuroda. At his age and pitching in Japan and rhe NL west, I don't think he will do to well.

Considering they only aid 2 million for Pettite he is worth a shot. But that will put Hughes in the pen, which is the wrong move IMO. They keep jerking him around, you have another Joba Chamberlain scenario.
