Not sure if this a great deal for the Nets, but the Nets are close to a trade for Joe Johnson from the Hawks. They didn't give up alot in quality, just in quanity (Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, Dwight Stevenson (sign and trade), Jordan Williams and a lottery protected 2013 pick via Houston). My issue as a Nets fan is with Johnson's huge contract and re-signing Gerald Wallace the past weekend, no way they can sign or trade for Dwight Howard and be under the cap. but the deal is contingent on the Nets re-signing Deron Williams. Williams and Johnson would give them arguably the best backcourt in the NBA, so we'll see.

Joe Johnson is what I like to call a fake star. He'll give you good stat but he'll never get you anywhere important. He also has a nasty habit of checking out in key situations and throwing counter-productive tantrums. He's essentially a cancer and was a key part of the Hawks being totally dysfunctional. I think he's exactly the wrong person for the Nets.

Also not getting Dwight Howard means Deron Williams will probably leave.

Going further into this. On the scale of worst "stars" you can bring to your team, then that would be Joe Johnson. Honestly, this is probably the worst move they could've made regarding their team.

The deal was contingent on the Nets first re-signing Williams.

So not sure if Williams has resigned or if the Johnson trade is not official yet

Looks like Magic refused to trade Howard to the Nets which is where he wanted to really go

I think it's a bad move because they need rebounding more than anything

The deal itself as far as the players involved I like as they are not giving up anything good in terms of players

But they should not have re-signed Gerald Wallace for 4 years $40 million
That was dumb. Should have used that money to re-sign Kris Humphries who is a great rebounder if they were not going to be able to get Howard.

Deron Williams resigned with the Nets

So they now have Joe Johnson and Williams

There are rumors they are still trying to trade for Dwight Howard

Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries (they would have to re-sign him first), Marshon Brooks and 3 #1 picks for Howard

While a Big 3 of williams, Howard and Johnson would be awesome, I think that is way too much to give up for Howard

If they could resign Humphries, the starting 5 would be C lopez, PF Humprhies, SF Wallace, SG Johnson, PG Williams

That is a very good starting 5 and while it would not make the Nets title contenders, they would be on paper good enough to be a 4-5 seed in the East
