Yes they were stunned as was I. There was also an Iranian guy in the stands cheering wildly when Sheik won. Fans looked like they wanted to kill the fan. I still remember the other matches. I can't remember who fought on Raw last week, but can remember a card from 30 years ago. Sgt. Slaughter def Chief Jay Strongbow Masked Superstar def Ivan Putski by DQ Wild Samoans (Afa, Sika and Samu) def Rocky Johnson, Tony Atlas and SD Jones Tito Santana def Ivan Koloff Invaders def Butcher Vachon and Iron Mike Sharpe Jimmy Snuka and Arnold Skaaland def Magnificent Muraco and Capt Lou Albano Tiger Chung Lee vs Salvatore Bellomo - 20 minute draw Jose Luis Rivera def Terry Gibbs Iron Sheik def Bob Backlund when Skaaland threw in the towel. My dad took me, my then best friend (whom I am still good friends with today) and my younger sister to the show. My dad was a fan from the 60s as Bruno and Antonio Rocca were his faves. He stopped watching in the late 80s and never watched again (he passed away 3 years ago) |

Great story. Iron Sheik seemed to have tremendous heat for his mini-run. Nice to know he had some Iranian countrymen as fans, too. I did a review of that show a few years ago on Da' Site. Found it to be a very solid card, top-to-bottom. You may have already read it, but if not I'd love to hear your opinions on my, uh, opinions: Backlund vs. Sheik- Dec 26, 1983 |

Yeah, that is so cool that Tortured Soul was there. That's a hell of a good first show to have as a bragging right (my first live card was the Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy ladder match that people seem to care about more than I did). |

I had read your review, but re-read it now. Good review, takes me back to 30 years ago. Seems I had the opener wrong, Rivera beat Goulet not Gibbs. I remember Bellomo - Chung Lee being better than you described I thought it was just Putski that was DQ'd not Superstar also SGt Slaughter while expected to win, hit the short arm clothesline out of nowhere as you said to get the victory over Chief Jay Strongbow I remember the Samoans - Johnson/ Atlas/jones match being very long and your review saying 25 minutes and it was. I also remember that when Atlas was beat up before making the hot, tag, when he made it to S.D., my dad saying well the match will be over soon, he should have tagged Johnson instead. Of course, he was right. I had forgotten that match was 2/3 falls. I did remember the beginning of the match that Skaaland got a couple of pin attempts on Muraco, like a small package. At the time, I was like how could the Ic champ almost be pinned by a manager? |

Just wondering, but since it was Dec 26, did your dad get you tickets as a Christmas present? Christmas 1983--- hmm, think that's when I got the GI Joe Headquarters as my big present... and felt fairly let down. Sorry to hi-jack the Nitro 200 thread , too :) |

Christmas Eve is my birthday, so I assume it was either my b-day or x-mas, don't remember which. I turned 14 that year |
