I forgot how entertaining the Western theme episode was from February 89. Every segment was gold. Gotta love Classic Heenan being an asshole to the film crew. The time limit draw between Hennig and Martel was lame but overall a great episode.

I watched the infamous boat episode from November 88 today. The segment where the boat kept rocking back and forth with Heenan being scared and Monsoon laughing non stop was hilarious.

I watched the last episode the other day. It should of had just Heenan and Monsoon as host to give it the proper send off. And having it just an hour long was a crime. They couldn't give it at least 2 hours?

They showed some of the basic clips from the early years like the western theme episode and the yacht episode etc.

Overall they could of did a way better job of ending their big show for the past 8 years. I was disappointed to say the least.

Thing is, PTW wasn't their main or big show. Folks like to romanticize it and say it was their "flagship show", but that's not accurate. Yes, PTW usually had two or three exclusive competitive matches, but they were never mentioned on the syndicated shows or PPV's. Some of those exclusive matches were up to a year old, yet often presented as "new". The remainder of the stuff was leftovers or re-runs from "Superstars" or "Challenge". I look at the Fall 1986 stuff, showing "The Big Event", which should have been promoted on the others show, but it wasn't.

It was basically a way to cram 2 hours with their messaging. In terms of TV time, they really didn't give it any relevance until the 1991 format switch. At WrestleMania VII, Heenan acknowledges the post-party on Prime Time, which was probably the first time they began promoting the show. They would occasionally give PTW a mention in the WWF Magazine, though (like in 1989 when Piper returned and feuded with Heenan).

When RAW took it over in January 1993, that's when all the "flagship" stuff could start to be applied.

Besides TNT, wasn't PTW the only show shown at night?

I never understood why it never got any kind of mention besides those last few years like you said. I know Superstars and Challenge were the better angle shows but still it's ridiculous.

Depending on where you lived, WWF TV could've aired at night. In my town, from 1985 to 1989, "WWF Championship Wrestling" and its successor "WWF Superstars of Wrestling" would air on Saturday nights from 9pm-10pm. It wasn't until late 1989 that it moved to a 10am Saturday slot. When it did, it was only because the start-up FOX network finally had enough shows to pad out the schedule on Saturday nights.

"Challenge" was added as a Sunday morning show, sometime in 1987. Usually at 10am. For awhile in 1989, it would air at 5 or 6pm on a Sunday night. AWA had a long history of airing on a competing local channel at 10am on Sunday mornings. It died out in 1988, though.

Again, this is all in MY town ("a major metropolitan township located in the Mountain Time Zone"). Obviously it was different in other markets.

TNT and PTW were the 2 shows shown at night in my area during that time period. Superstars was on Saturday morning and Challenge on Sunday morning.

Side topic here but anybody find it funny when during an ''update'' segment on Prime Time you'd here Mean Gene say ''from the pages of the World Wrestling Federation magazine here's update'' when in reality the angle they are talking about is no where to be found in that particular magazine?

In you guys opinion, What was the better Halloween edition of Prime Time 88,89,or 90?

IMO it was 89. The Piper/Heenan interaction was gold like usual and how can you forget Brother Hate??!!

89. The stuff with Monsoon, Piper, and Heenan was just awesome. I couldn't care less what matches are featured, the studio segments were some of the best. 88 does have Gorilla as a Gorilla, so that gets 2nd place.

To my recollection, Superstars and Challenge both aired at noon (Saturday and Sunday respectively) in my area (Catskills NY). Challenge went head to head with All-American and later the Action Zone before being canceled.

In my mark period from 1988-1992, "Challenge" was usually against USA's "All American" at 10am Sunday mornings, as well. To me, "All American" seemed like a lame version of "Superstars", only slowed down and with 100% more Mean Gene.

I only saw it once or twice--and soon changed the channel, cuz' I wasn't into wrestling then-- but circa 1994/1995, "Superstars" aired at 10:35pm on a Saturday night, on a local CBS affiliate, immediately after their late-night news.
