This came up on another board and it was an interesting chat so I wanted to see how it would go over here. So the idea is simple. What are the best WWE matches that happened between WrestleMania III and WrestleMania X. Essentially we're talking what are the best matches between Savage/Steamboat and HBK/Razor.

Here's a general list I came up with off the top of my head:

Hart/Hennig - Summerslam 91
Hart/Bulldog - Summerslam 92
Hogan/Savage - Wrestlemania V
Hogan/Warrior - Wrestemania VI
Warrior/Savage - Wrestlemania VII
Warrior/Rude - Summerslam 89
Piper/Hart - Wrestlemania VIII
Flair/Savage - Wrestlemania VIII
Hennig/Flair - Raw 1/25/1993

One thing that popped out at me from my list. For as much grief as Warrior gets as a worker, he had about a 2.5 year run of some really great work in the ring and had some of the best matches of that late 80s early 90s era.

Some to add from 1993...

Bret vs. Hennig; King of the Ring
Steiner Brothers vs. Money Inc.; SummerSlam Spectacular
Shawn Michaels vs. Marty Jannetty; 7-19-93 Raw

Rockers vs. Orient Express; 1991 Royal Rumble.
The 1992 Rumble Match

The 1992 Rumble match is a really good add. Probably one of the best Rumbles as all of the big stars of the era are in it and you have the novelty of the WCW World Champion essentially running through the entire WWE roster.

Looking back, the WWF didn't start putting a string of good matches together on a regular basis until after the Hulkamania era. You'll see one peppered here and there, but they were far between when it came to extraordinary (4+ star) matches. 1993 is the first year where free TV matches were possible MOTYC. The star power was down, but the wrestling quality went way up.

The roster also got smaller size wise in 1993 as well. I think that really opened up the ring work more.

I'll mention the Demolition/Brain Busters 2/3 tag title match from the July 1989 SNME.

Rockers/Hart Foundation from the May 1990 SNME.

I'm guessing you're going for more technical displays, rather than "best moments". Otherwise, stuff like Hogan/Orndorff from the January 1987 SNME would get a mention, since it was pretty exciting for what it was.

I'll throw in Harts/Demolition 2/3 from SSlam 90 and Steiners/Headshrinkers from WM 9.

I also enjoyed Flair/Michaels from PTW in late 91.

Anything is fair game I think. I wouldn't call Warrior/Savage a technical display. It was a masterpiece of narrative and payoff more than anything.

I'll nominate Mr. Perfect vs. - Loser Leaves The WWF from WWF RAW in 1993.

There's a great (yeah, you heard me right) match between Lex Luger and Diesel for the Intercontinental Title on RAW, that I can't place. I know its in 1994 sometime.

Mr. Perfect vs. Tito Santana tore the house down at Saturday Night's Main Event in 1990. 1991?

Mr. Perfect vs. Bret Hart from King of The Ring 1993 is amazing.

Bret Hart vs. Razor Ramon from King of The Ring 1993 is almost as good.

Bret Hart vs. Bam-Bam-Bigelow from King of The Ring 1993 is legit one of the best Big Man/Little Man matches ever.

For shits and giggles, I went through all my flashbacks of January '90 through August '91 and marked every match I'd given at least 3-stars to...

1. Rockers vs. Powers of Pain (1/15/90 MSG; ***)
2. Greg Valentine vs. Ronnie Garvin (Rumble 90; ***)
3. Royal Rumble Match (Rumble 90; ****1/4)
4. Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage (Main Event III; ***)
5. Rockers & Jim Duggan vs. Powers of Pain & Mr. Fuji (2/19/90 MSG; ***)
6. Bret Hart vs. Rick Martel (3/19/90 MSG; ***1/4)
7. Hulk Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior (WM VI; ***3/4)
8. The Rockers vs. Hart Foundation (4/90 SNME; ***1/2)
9. Big Boss Man vs. Ted Dibiase (4/30/90 MSG; ***)
10. Shawn Michaels vs. Ted Dibiase (5/14/90 PTW; ***)
11. Ultimate Warrior vs. Rick Rude (7/90 SMME; ***)
12. The Rockers vs. Demolition (7/90 SNME; ***1/4)
13. Tito Santana vs. Mr. Perfect (7/90 SNME; ****)
14. The Rockers vs. Power & Glory (Slam 90; ***. Personal bias here)
15. The Hart Foundation vs. Demolition (Slam 90; ***1/2)
16. Marty Jannetty vs. Paul Roma (9/21/90 MSG; ***)
17. The British Bulldog vs. Haku (10/19/90 MSG; ***)
18. Ultimate Warrior vs. Ted Dibiase (Main Event IV; ***1/2)
19. Big Boss Man vs. Mr. Perfect (Main Event IV; ***)
20. Roddy Piper vs. Mr. Perfect (12/28/90 MSG; ***1/2)

21. The Rockers vs. The Orient Express (Rumble 91; ****1/4)
22. Big Boss Man vs. The Barbarian (Rumble 91; ***)
23. Roddy Piper vs. Mr. Perfect (Copps Coliseum 1/25/91; ***)
24. Shawn Michaels vs. Mr. Perfect (PTW 3/17/91; ***1/2)
25. The British Bulldog vs. The Warlord (3/15/91 MSG; ***)
26. Shawn Michaels vs. Kato (3/15/91 MSG; ***1/2)
27. The Rockers vs. Haku & The Barbarian (WM VII; ***)
28. The Hart Foundation vs. The Nasty Boys (WM VII; ***1/4)
29. Ultimate Warrior vs. Randy Savage (WM VII; ****1/2)
30. Bret Hart vs. Ted Dibiase (4/91 SNME; ***1/2)
31. Rockers & Virgil vs. Orient Express & Mr. Fuji (4/22/91 MSG; ***)
32. Hulk Hogan vs. Sgt. Slaughter (6/3/91 MSG; ***1/2)
33. Bret Hart vs. Paul Roma (7/1/91 PTW; ***)
34. Bret Hart vs. The Barbarian (8/18/91 PTW; ***)
35. Bret Hart vs. Mr. Perfect (Slam 91; ****1/4)

All ratings subject to my own personal opinion, and a few generous nods, I'd say.

Is that Hogan/Slaughter match the Desert Storm one?

Yes indeed. They did one as a coliseum video dark match for a TV taping that was almost as bad as the one from MSG was good.

I thought their Mania match was also pretty good. Like *** maybe ***1/2 stars depending on my mood. Not as good as that one. I thought they had good chemistry most of the time. Slaughter kind of gets overlooked inring that run because of how distasteful the gimmick was.

Side question, has anyone seen that Steiners vs. Bret/Owen match and was that good?

They wouldn't be the best matches but I want to throw out that series of Mr. Perfect vs. Doink matches that were on TV in 1993. Those were some really strong matches.

Also that Bossman/Barbarian Rumble match is ridiculously fun and better than it had any right to be. Bossman was a really strong worker but Barbarian could be the absolute shits at time.
