DDOcast is pleased to announce a new segment to the show....Ask The Devs!

This is something that I've been hoping would happen for a while now, and it's officially a "go"! Here's how it will work: About once a month I will be getting together with a couple of folks who bring you Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach for a casual, but informative Q-and-A! The questions will be yours!

As many of you know, I've been getting the occasional email since the start of the podcast that generally goes like this:

"Hey, next time you get to talk to someone from DDO, could you ask them about ______?"

"I liked your interview with ______, but I wish you would've asked them about ______."

"Hey loser! Why the heck didn't you ask about vorpal lumps of coal?!?!?!"
(just kidding!)

So far I've been collecting these questions and placing them in a "master list" of things to ask the DDO devs when I get the chance. In fact, some of the things I've asked Kate Paiz and Eladrin during my chats with them came from you! Thing is, I've always been hoping to have a more regular way to interact with the DDO crew and get your questions answered, and the time is now!

Of course, the fine folks at Turbine will continue to answer tons of player-submitted questions on their regular www.ddo.com forums. Think of this as sort of an extra "bonus round"!

I am so happy that we are able to bring this to you and I think you will really enjoy it. I really need to give a ton of credit to Quarion and all of the other great people at Turbine who have been working to make this happen - thanks so much!

The first segment of Ask The Devs is set to be broadcast on February 2nd, which also happens to be DDOcast's one year anniversary! Oh yeah, that's gonna be a great episode...

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR QUESTION(S) FOR ASK THE DEVS:

Simple! Just send it all in to ddocast@gmail.com. That's it! I will be collecting everyone's questions and passing them along to the devs, who will then take a look at what's in store and get some answers ready for you! Ask as many questions as you would like.

You can also post your questions in this thread!

If possible, it would be great if you would sign your question with whatever name you would like me to use when I ask the question to the devs. Maybe a forum name, character name, "real" first name, whatever. Not necessary but helpful.

WHAT CAN I ASK?

Anything! "Hard" questions, detailed questions, questions about the future, questons about the past, questions about why your dwarf on Sarlona has funny eyebrows - it's all good! We (aka - me and the devs) want to hear it all! Of course, I probably won't be asking them stuff that involves personal attacks against people, but basically anything goes! Feel free to ask about whatever is on your mind that is DDO-related. Or ask about something "fun", just for kicks. FYI - my favorite color is brown and my favorite movie is Repo Man.

I can't promise that every question you submit will be answered, but we'll sure answer as many as we can!

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT QUESTIONS?

Well, the goal is to record these about once per month, generally towards the end of the month for broadcast on the next available episode at the beginning of the month. So, I'd suggest sending in your questions earlier rather than later, but no worries! If you miss one segment, I'll just pass them along for the next one!

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? Feel free to write me at ddocast@gmail.com or post in the comments section below.

I've already posted in the Tech Support thread ans sent an email regarding **** wee problem to you guys. Geting desperate here T_T
Question: Can you please tell me why in the Nine Hells does the link for the free 10-day trial on the ddo.com website lead to a paid-membership-only site (that is, FilePlanet)?
After I downloaded it from a random free site, I followed the link in my email that sent me the free trial key I got for trying to get the FilePlanet trial and created my account on Codemasters. After, as it turned out, wrongly believing that this account on Codemasters was ONLY for Codemasters (and not necessarily for DDO as well), I created another account with the exact same personal data, username and pass on myaccount.turbine.com, which turns out to be (I think) for North America players only, whereas I live in Europe. This second acc was made with my MSN email adress, while the Codemasters one was created using my Yahoo! adress.
Now, I installed the trial, typed in my product key when prompted, and when I tried to login, I got a "Pass and/or username is incorrect." error message. Everytime I try this I keep getting the very same error message.
Let's recap: I used the trial key I got from Turbine, refused to download the free trial from the link on ddo.com leading to a pay site (how ironic), used that trial key with the trial version of the game I got off of a random site, and used the very same personal data, username and pass, for both the Codemasters AND the myaccount.turbine.com account, the former on my Yahoo! and the latter on my MSN email adresses.
There's a similar story when it comes to the forums. The error message insists that it has never heard of my forum account as well. There's a thread slightly resembling my problem on the Sarlona shard forum, entitled "Little help pls .....technical problem", if it helps.
Here's the link to it: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=132943
I've also sent an email containing everything listed here at ddocast@gmail.com.
Please help. I can't stand this sort of stress, and I might just forget about ever subscribing at all in a fit of rage... which I'm having right now T_T

So, I went to www.ddo.com and tried out the download process for the free trial. I didn't get sent to FilePlanet at all! Maybe its a Codemasters thing, not sure.

For me, I filled in my email address and went through a "captcha" to make sure it wasn't spam. Then, it took me to a page which had a big download button on it and I hit download. That was it! Not sure why you would be having such problems, but maybe you should just head straight to www.ddo.com and get it from there?

Don't give up - the game's worth it!

My question:

Are there any plans to bring the required saving throws for hard and elite traps back down some, or at least give them a second look?

I have another question:

With the release of monks, will we get another character slot? Will those of us who have well over the normal limit from the server merge have to delete characters down to the normal limit to make a monk?

Just to point out, File Planet is not premium only. Premium members do get a few perks, the most useful of which is to avoid waiting in a queue before your download begins, but premium membership has never been required. I did the DDO trial in April of last year, and at the time it did redirect me to File Planet. Not sure about now. Either way, I was fine using File Planet. I've been a member since the site launched, but have never download that much that I felt the need to go premium. It's nice to be able to queue up downloads then go to bed so it's all done in the morning.

---

I have tons of questions but here's two minor ones:

Any chance of having the launcher updated like LOTRO's was where we can check a box to automatically connect to the last-used server, thereby skipping the server selection screen?

Also any chance of adding our character's location to the login screen? I know... this isn't a game with a wide-open world, but still... there's room on the login screen for another line or two of text, and the server knows each character's location (ie. zone) anyway, so why not? This was added to LOTRO shortly after launch and it makes it nice to have a frame of reference for where you'll be arriving and perhaps remember what you last did with that character.

Oh! Game-play question this time: can we get the ability to remove buffs?

People are casting Haste on others who are trying to climb up to the tower, which causes them to run off the rocks and fall. Would be nice if we could click buffs like that off if we didn't want them.

Since they're lowering the reflex save DCs, I retract my question about whether or not they're coming down.

Hi Jerry.

Could you ask the dev's if they will be changing the flagging method for Velah (Plane of Night) and Queen (Zawabi's Revenge) to be more in line with the others that once you flaged once that you odnt have to rerun the prequest.

The devs have surely noticed Grenfell's huge respec thread in the forums. I want to know what the devs think of the idea of a full respec (with a time, item, or other limitation) and if it's likely that we would ever see it.

Listen this weekend! Yup, it took a bit of time, but they've discussed respeccing on Ask the Devs! I won't quote them here out of fears of getting it wrong, but basically they've said it's something they are considering.
