Update 11 on Lamannia! Have you tried it? What do you think of it?
Will you be making an Artificer? How do you pronounce Artificer?
Bravery Bonus more XP is good, but what about premium/free players?
Do you have a parody DDO song? if so share!

I'm glad you asked about the pronunciation of Artificer. In 229 Sig seemed to be having a difficult time with this word!

I can only guess that the root word for the class is Artifact. A common term in D&D and applicable to the class.

Note that the f comes before the c. I've noticed that even in your show notes Artificer is spelled Articifer (switching the c and the f), which is how I've heard many people say it including many guildies in chat and Sig and Samius. Though it seems Coldin says it like I do.

From the construction of the word I would say it's pronounced arht-uh-fis-er or a reasonable IPA would be ART ə fɪs ər (emphasis based on artifact).

After saying all that, see the interview with Keith Baker (I believe by Sig!) about the evolution and malleability of words in Eberron. By which I mean, say it how you want, it's what it means to you!

Words have power,
Thad

Artificer is proper, I just do it wrong more often than not. I find it awkward to say so when I'm going pretty fast, as I typically do, I say it incorrectly.

I had to re-record the first part of the show this week due to sound issues and I tried to do a better job with the word through that part of it.

I'm always bad with pronunciations of names and words I've never said aloud. I grumble a lot about non phonetic English words.

AR-ti-fih-cer

:)

(Trust me, I'm not insulting here, I've messed up words a billion times on the show...)

While it's true Mr. Baker has a belief that the pronunciations can be whatever you want, I also think of it as a play on either Artifice or Artifact.
I now work for Turbine!

\är-ˈti-fə-sər\ or \ˈär-tə-fə-sər\

They're both correct, it depends on where you put that accent: the first syllable or the second.

I've also heard soemone say ah-te-fe-ser and art-eh-feh-ser.

Some where along the way I'll butcher it and call them "Arties" or "Arty". Much like how I say wiz, sor, or 'forged.

Apparently I've been saying it wrong since the 3.5 Eberron books. And correcting the issue has been interesting. In voice chat I will be at the word in a sentence then stop think and say it lol.

I'll get it down eventually.
