Even despite the loss of a steady internet connection (and a gaming PC, like I originally intended), I went and picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution for PS3 and, boy-howdy, does that game rock my socks clean off. It is a fantastic piece of development software and I cannot wait to get back to it tonight! |

I've got a buddy playing it on the PC right now, and he says it is very cool. I may have to consider picking it up for one of my systems here down the road. reviews have been good and I haven't heard a single person call it a bad game yet. |

Yesterday I bought myself a PS3 that came with Resistance 3, and I bought two other games for it, which were Vanquish and Killzone 3. So far, I think I have enjoyed Vanquish the most. The game is sufficiently difficult for me on normal at the moment and I am wondering how difficult it gets later on or how difficult it is on the higher difficulties. I've really been liking the boss battles. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say - you like shooters? ![]() I have not actually tried any of these yet, though I've eyed several so far. Be interesting to hear which of the 3 is your favorite and why once you've logged a bit more time and formed a more definitive position.

At first I didn't give much thought to Resistance 3. After playing it for a few hours I'm liking it quite a bit. It has clearly defined and different weapons, varied enemies, a fair amount of challenge, and non-regenerating health! No hiding behind chest high walls here. |

I like how different enemies have different weak points instead of the usual "shoot it until it dies or in the head". I haven't seen much of these classical features lately and this shooter has them. |

LOL@WaltzIT - I really had a love/hate relationship with Demons Souls. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the sense of discovery, the feeling of victory when beating something - but that game stressed me out at times pretty bad too. I know a lot of people said that the game seldom had 'cheap deaths', but I'm not sure I'd often agree w/ that either. I think that I will pass on Dark Souls, unless I just find it super cheap down the road. Even one of the pre-reviews I've been reading, where the writer said they loved the game, said they didn't enjoy it 95% of the time, but that the other 5% made up for it. |

Reviews that I have read of Dark Souls have said that there is a bit more randomness to screw you over even further, and that the game "just plain hates you." |

From Software hates gamers. Does it make me masochistic to want still play Dark Souls? All though I never finished Demon's Souls, I really liked it. There was something so satisfying about having to earn every bit of progress in the game. I agree with that writer in context of Demon's Souls at least that this 5% of the time is so satisfying that it makes up for feeling anxious and terrified all the time. I think that we as gamers have become so accustomed to instant gratification that we don't like it when we have to experience unpleasant feelings to get to the good part. |

It's probably the kind of game I'd have eaten up when I was in highschool or college, but I have enough other games now to keep me busy that I don't really want to obsess over one that gets me ticked off half of the time. ![]() There's definite entertainment to be had there, but it's not a must-buy for me, especially brand new. Kind of a funny footnote - anyone ever play 3D Dot Heroes? It's also from the same company, and they had a couple of cute references to Demons Souls - at one point there's a a person who complains that their demons souls game is too hard, would you like to trade. And then there's another part, I didn't know about, but found on youtube recently poking fun at the message system from demons souls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTMykGRGdwM good stuff.

Hm. I've deliberately avoided previews and reviews of Dark Souls because this is a game I want to experience for myself first, but if what you've said is true, I'm not going to be a happy camper. I'm one of those that thought Demon's Souls was cruel, but ultimately fair. If Dark Souls has picked up some cheap tactics in the name of challenge, I'm not going to enjoy this nearly as much. |

Well, keep in mind, I thought Demon Souls was a bit cheap at times too. Not most of the time, but there are definitely times where I felt like there was cheapness in the first. Now, I can't attest to this new game, and like I said, I'm sure I'll eventually play it, but from everything I've read, it's harder and they've added more 'random things' that can kill you. Should I keep posting comments/reviews/potential spoilings on here if this conversation continues? I've been reading up on it frequently, just not sold on buying it yet.

On-topic: I only played Demon's Souls once. I had heard from many of my friends that it was the most punishing game ever and none of them had any fun with it. They complained that it was too difficult and ultimately too frustrating to take enjoyment from. I played it once, at a friend's house, and managed to get farther than he had in the six or so hours he had tried playing it. And he was the one who owned it. The difference was my approach to the game: I knew it was supposed to be hard so I played conservatively and, though it was certainly difficult, I didn't find it nearly as impossible as my friends made it out to be. I actually quite enjoyed it: I very nearly killed a pike-wielding enemy on my first try, and those guys were apparently notoriously difficult for my friend. I never played it again but I enjoyed what I saw of it. Mayhaps I'll pick up Dark Souls if it aims to be a similar experience. Off-topic: Did anyone else pick up the Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD rerelease? I picked it up on release day and, damn, is Shadow of the Colossus as good as ever. I haven't had a chance to try Ico yet but SotC still remains my favourite game of all time and this remastered version makes all my hopes and dreams come true: the game looks even more gorgeous than the original (as if that would be possible) and yet doesn't change the feelings that were evoked from the visuals. Everything is still as epic, only more-so because it's so much prettier. I can only imagine what fighting a colossus would be like in 3D (which apparently these games are compatible with). Sorry, my Colossus fanboy is showing. I'll try and rein him back in... |
