@IT - LOL. I still haven't tried Crysis. I like fps games, but like several other types of titles (fighters, sports) - I tend to burn through them very quickly compared to games like RPGs or strategy titles.

I just realised that I didn't link you folks in to my review of Halo: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/games/microsoft_game_studios/halo_combat_evolved_anniversary/408166

I was marginally impressed, but my love for FPSers is not returning.

Glad you shot that link in here. :) I do enjoy FPSers, but like 1 on 1 fighters, I tend to burn through them pretty quickly. they are without a doubt my son's favorite gaming genre though, and I'm sure at some point we'll wind up owning that particular title. :)

I didn't know you played Fighting games. I tend to burn through them quickly, too (or rather, I did when I was in my prime), but I still love them and go back to the best of them rather frequently. Any particular ones you liked?

In the last year or so? I've played through Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter 4 and Marvel vs Capcom 3. My son tends to get frustrated with them, so I tend to beat them thoroughly and then trade them in. I am considering picking up Street Fighter 4 arcade and Ultimate M v C 3. I also tend to like the Soul Caliber and Tekken series. I usually get these for the PS3, because when my son does want to play them, he can play them online for free. I've got a Naruto and Blazblue title sitting on my shelf waiting to be played soon though. What about you Frog?

I play just about every major Fighting series out there (except Mortal Kombat, I never really cared for those games), plus a lot of obscure ones. My favorites are The King of Fighters series. In fact, if you want a game that'll last you a long time, just look for anything by SNK. Like you, I tend to go through them pretty quickly, though I assume you at least beat them with every character? SNK's games usually have a lot of characters with lots of moves and super tough bosses, and lots of little complications to keep you playing for quite a long time. SNK has quite a few games for XBLA that are only $5-$10, and they're worth every penny.

I've looked at, but not gotten any SNK games this console generation (I did play a lot of their titles in prior generations though). You assume correctly - I tend to go through just about every mode and beat the game with every character (my trophy completion with Mortal Kombat was like 82%). I think Naruto is probably my next play since I already have it. But thanks for the suggestions as I will no doubt be looking at more of those titles over the next few months if/when I actually whittle through my gaming backlog. :) Trying to recall - have I added you to my friends lists yet? If not and you want to - I use Chalgyr for steam/ps3/360

How do you buy games with the new Dashboard?

EDIT: Nevermind

Am I the only one that finds the Xbox 360 Dashboard horribly clunky and unintuitive.

(probably)

I must just be used to the PS3 one.

I find it that way as well, but to be brutally honest, I'm not really fan of any of the home menus this generation (for various reasons). Xbox is the prime offender, though. Not a fan of the interface, much less the ads everywhere and the difficulty I sometimes have simply trying to access basic features. I've had these quarrels since I first got an Xbox, but hey, at least it looks pretty.

I really liked the old 'bladed' Xbox live dashboard that they had years ago for the 360. I really, really don't like this new one. I'm trying to give it a chance, but I feel like it's more cluttered than before. I know the idea is to make it quicker (which I suppose it is, having the boxes all on one page by segment) - though I dislike the 'advertisement' they sneak into a lot of those pages too. I like the PS3 one a bit better personally, and think aesthetically the 360's dashboard keeps getting worse with every release over the last few years.

I recently discovered the fantastic gem that is Halo 3: ODST. I can honestly say with no hesitation that it is better than any of the main Halo games (the ones featuring Master Chief [Combat Evolved, 2 and 3]) and is only surpassed by Halo: Reach for how fantastic it is. The gameplay is solid, the story is absolutely stellar, and the voice acting... Oh, the voice acting!

Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk and Tricia Helfer are helped along by Nolan North in this tour de force. The writing might not always be the best but the characters are believable and entertaining and the voice acting is spot on. Hell, even the characters that Fillion and Helfer play look like them!

It's a fantastic game that focuses on slowing down the action and appreciating the scenery, as opposed to the usual run-and-gun of the main Halo trilogy. If you haven't played it, I seriously suggest you correct that; ODST remains the most overlooked title in the Halo franchise, and it is a crying shame.

Yeah, I need to play Halo ODST. I was disappointed with the HD remake of Halo, so I need to get back in the groove.

As for my Xbox, I'm using it to play Xbox 1 games at the moment. Kingdom Under Fire, Morrowind, Midtown Madness.

I have a funny feeling that the original Xbox is going to be a bit of a forgotten classic amongst consoles. People talk about how awesome the Dreamcast, Gamecube, PS2 is. I don't hear nearly as much remembering the Xbox. But it has awesome, awesome games.

So true. I have lots of fantastic memories playing games on my Xbox. Games like Crimson Skies, Lord of the Rings: The Third Age and the original Fable were all staples in my Xbox tray. That being said, I think it lasted just long enough to set the scene for the 360; it proved that Microsoft could bring something to the console hardware table, and allowed them to increase the power of their product. Sort of a really expensive and widespread proof-of-concept, if you will. :P
