For me, it feels gimicky (fast food of the gaming world), with the added bonus of providing a casual method to sell further advertising for the social community (and is debatable if it is indeed the primary purpose of the medium). This is not assisted by the fact that you can get 'ahead' in each of the games through a financial outlay, and the fact that inviting friends (like a pyramid scheme) furthers your goals. In addition, by necessity of appealing to a social group, all games have been designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. The games are normally quite quick and addictive, but as a result oft-times sacrifice depth. Im not sure how civ will go. I will probably give it a try, but my expectations will not be high Edit: Arnar, count me in. I like to at least give the opportunity to prove me wrong

Advanced Member Posts: 166 Group: Admin Member #22 Joined: May 27, 2011	I have high hopes of Civ World avoiding the exploitation of it's consumers and make use of the features and benefits the social network. There are definitely some aspects of Facebook games that can be appealing to both core gamers and casuals but most Facebook games do more to repel the gamers and capture the casuals that don't know any better. My hope is that Firaxis might be trying to bridge the gap and bring them together.

I've been trying to log in to the servers for about 3 hours now to take some screen shots and every time it either times out or I get kicked out after less than a minute. You would think that a company like 2K/Firaxis would be prepared for massive server loads for a Facebook game or at least have a back up set up which could be implemented quickly. But no, the game has been open for 5 five days and it has only gotten worse since I first logged in, 5 minutes after the server opened up.
