General Game Information

Name of the Game - FrolickingFledglings
Type - llamaserver PBEM (Play By EMail)
Players - 10
Nations - Picked on First Come First Served basis (no water nations. Or Ermor*. I'm disallowing Ermor not because they are overpowered, but because I want new players to get a feel for how to play regular games, and fighting either against or as LA Ermor has a very different feel to how the vast majority of other nations play.
Open To - New or inexperienced or crap players (basically, if you think you qualify as one of these, then please feel free to sign-up. Although I will possibly kick you out if I know you to be trying it on (this is mainly in reference to the 'crap' requirement). If you've won a proper MP game, then you are likely too good to play in this particular game (duels are not proper MP games, so winning a duel means little here. And I'd say games with 6 players or less aren't proper MP games either, as they are more mini-skirmishes. But that is far more borderline.)

Mods
CBM Complete 1.6 - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attachment....67&d=1252953736
EDM 1.1 - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attachment....38&d=1277840680

(Yes I know there's a newer version of CBM, and no we won't be using it)

Schedule - 1st turn 48h, then 24h until players prefer 48h. Then repeat for 72h, 96h etc.

Map - Plane of Rusty Nails (by elmokki)

Download link is here - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attachment....36&d=1297439609 (Edit 2 - New Map Link)
Map thread link is here - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=45271

Note - You will not be given the final .map file for this game, as you only need the image file to play the game. The .map file will be kept hidden so that players don't know the start locations of the other players.

Age - Late
Independent Strength - 5
Research - Standard
Magic Sites - Default (which is 35 for LA)
Money - Default
Resources - Default
Supplies - Default
Random Events- Default (which is Common)
Re-naming - On
Score Graphs - On
Hall Of Fame - 15

Victory Conditions - Hold ~50% of capitals for 3 consecutive turns. Win claims to be checked by the non-playing admin. ie. me. (there are no VP's at capitals)

(More detailed info on the settings and game rules etc can be found in the post below this one. Once I get around to posting them, which will be well before the game starts)

Important Notice to All Players

It goes without saying that I expect everyone to play and fight until the very last man. (FYI, this is also the expected norm for all games on this forum, and counts double for any and all of my games).

So far almost all the players in my three previous newbie games have been absolutely fantastic in that regard :big thumbs up smilie: And apart from the odd exception, I don't think I could ask for more of them on that front, as the new players in these games have put many vets to shame. As the definition that some vets use to describe 'fighting until the last' is absolutely pathetic by all accounts. (indeed, just take for example the recent events in the DragonWars (this forum) and Troubling Times (on shrapnel) games, which saw established vets bail in a flood of excuses simply because they were attacked)

So can all those who agree to play in this game please keep up this truly excellent trend shown by the new players on these forums, and please do keep putting those vets to shame with your excellent levels of commitment and never surrender fighting spirit. As you don't want to be the one to let the side down by being known as the only new player that bailed in a hissy fit.

Player List

1. Man* - Gordon Overkill (Calahan played turns 38-51 when Gordon had internet problems)
2. Ulm - NaivePhilosopher - Eliminated turn 46
3. T'ien Ch'i - Ianh (Eliminated turn 50)
4. Atlantis - Raiel (Took over on turn 38. Original player was "reinselc", who went AWOL and staled 3 times)
5. Pangaea - swapoer - Eliminated ~ turn 25
6. Marignon - numahr
7. Caelum - Koral (was xma until he had to sub out on turn 52 due to a RL time shortage)
8. Bogarus - Colonial
9. Utgard - Jimbojones (Eliminated turn 52. Jimbo took over on turn 38. Original player was "Streets Ahead", who went semi-AWOL, started staling, and submitting nothing turns)
10. C'tis - BlanketThief

* Please note that in Late Age Man are known as 'Chelms', and that is what will appear on the status screen once the game is up and running.

Edit 1 - Booted coobe out, as he's about as reliable as a chocolate fireguard.
Edit 2 - Added a new map link to reflect the update with the map.

More Detailed Game Information

Delays, Stale Turns, AI/Substitutes

Ideally, please post in the game thread and PM me if you need a delay, just in case I miss one of them (and so that the other players know what's going on). I'm a friendly admin, so most delays will be granted, but please give as much notice as possible. Since asking for a delay 5 minutes before hosting probably won't do any good. In the early phase any request up to 24-48 hours should be ok (if you are away over a weekend for example), anything longer may need to be temporarily subbed (or accept a stale). Once the game gets more intense and critical, then longer delays will usually be granted.

Stale turns are always unwelcome, but they are not the end of the world, and I doubt a stale free MP game has ever existed. So can I please ask players not to drop-out just because of a stale turn or two. The same can be said for losing a big fight. It hurts, but it's not a reason to quit or go into a staling sulk. If a player stales for 3 consecutive turns then the position will be assessed, and that player will either be turned AI, or a substitute will be sought. In the latter case, the game might need to be delayed a short while for a sub-search to take place.

If you do have to leave the game for any reason, then please can you let the admin know about it. I understand fully myself that it's not always possible to do this, but it is always highly appreciated if possible :) And if you can find your own substitute for your position, then that would be even better.

And can I please ask that nobody goes AI without prior notification. As this is considered to be pretty bad manners in this community, and anyone doing so won't be welcome in any future games that I arrange and admin. (see below where I mention that being a general douche bag is banned)

Victory Conditions

Think I had better make some mention of this.

Please take note that capitals will not be marked by VP's in this game. So winning claims are to be verified by the non-playing admin (which is me basically, unless a big truck decides otherwise, when I'm sure some kind soul will do it instead).

Also note that it is up to the players themselves to keep track of how many capitals others hold. There is no graph to tell you this exact info, and players claiming wins do not have to give any warning when they are about to win. So make sure to get those Scouts and intel spells out there if you want to know what's happening, so that you know who is close to owning enough capitals to win :)

As for the actual requirements, you need to hold X capitals in total for 3 consecutive turns. This figure can include your own. So if the requirement is 5 capitals, then that is your own plus 4 others. As an example if you capture your last needed capital on turn 50, and if you are still holding all the required number of capitals at the start of turn 51 and 52, then you are able to claim victory and ascend as the one true Pretender God :)

Edit: I should add that to claim a valid win, you need to provide the three turn files for the three turns that you have held the required number of capitals for. As one or two turn files won't be enough.

Who Can Play In This Game?

Ideally I am looking for new or inexperienced players only. Lets say that 5 or less games classes someone as inexperienced. If you have made it through to the late-game in more than one game, then you are probably not so inexperienced anymore. But then.....

....if we are struggling for sign-ups, then I will let more experienced players join on the condition that they pick a weak nation. Plus you might have played in several games, but have yet to make it to late game. In which case you probably still count as an inexperienced player. (you probably only really graduate from newb/inexperienced school after you have ether won a game, or have made it through to the late game on more than one occasion)

Situation Regarding Trades and NAP's etc (Non-Aggression Pacts)

No NAP agreements in this game will be considered as inviolable in any way. You are free to sign as many NAP's as you wish, but you do so at your own risk. Also, I personally think that in a game like Dominions 3 there isn't really any such thing as an NAP, since in theory everyone is aiming to win, and there can be only one winner. So all NAP's should instead be considered as Mutual Benefit Agreements, whereby both nations benefit for whatever reason(s) from not engaging in hostilities against the other nation. But the moment one side is no longer benefiting from such an agreement, then that is the moment they are most likely to break them. So if you are ever surprised by a nation breaking an agreement, then maybe you were mistaken with regards to just how important that agreement was to them, or how much they could gain from suddenly attacking you.

But trade agreements such as a gem / item swap / purchase / province trades, are a totally different type of agreement to NAP's. You are expected to honour any and all trade agreements that you make.

Banned Exploits

1. Copying the script orders from Bogus and his friends to others commanders (ie. The 'Fire Commanders' orders).
2. Overloading other players labs by sending them lots of items they did not request. Be they worthless or valuable.
3. Being a general douche bag is not allowed in this game.

Final Note To All Players

First I have a request to all players in this game, and that is to read this great set of general tips regarding personal conduct in MP games written by Sheap. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com//showthread.php?t=32050

Also, please can I further emphasise to everyone to firmly keep in mind that Dominions 3 is a computer game. If someone is dishonest and backstabs you in the game, this does not mean that this is how they are in real life. If you honestly believe that people will behave the same in real life as they do in a computer game then I personally think there is something wrong with you, and I would prefer it if you did not sign up for this game. Maybe use the time to instead get yourself checked out by a psychiatrist, who can help you separate computer games from real life.

'Thank You' for your time in reading all this. Good luck and happy gaming to all the players.

I'd be very much interested in playing in this game if you can get enough people. I've subbed into two games over on the shrapnel forum (one as MA Pythium early on which is now in what I guess would be the midgame, and one as LA Ermor in the lategame. That last one didn't go so well >.>) but I haven't ever started a game/designed a pretender for MP and all that, so I'd really like the opportunity to do that. If it all works out, I guess I'd like to play Ulm. I had a good time with them in a couple of SP games.

Thanks for the nice welcoming, Sombre! I believe what you say... I already loved every part of Dominions in single player. MP must be amazing! Still a long way to go untill I will be able to compete.
I think I'll have to say goodbye to some old habbits. For example I never put more than four or five mages into one laboratory since I didn't like the idea of giant labs-factories with dozens of mages in it ;-)

Welcome to this game, these forums, and the Dominions community GordonOverkill & NaivePhilosopher. I hope you enjoy the time you spend with all three :)

Sign-ups so far for this game have been a little slower than I'd like to see :( Maybe everyone is having a busy fun-packed weekend :)

I still have faith though that we will get enough players for it to get it off the ground. You might be able to help in that matter as well by letting other new players you know, know about the game. As often new players are not always aware that new games are starting, so any word spreading you can do would certainly help. Plus there are Dominions communities on several forums, but I only really associate with this one and shrapnel, so there are likely a number of new players on other forums looking for games to join right now.

I would do the word spreading myself, but I don't want to turn myself into Septimus*, and start promoting my games in any and every thread and forum I can find. As then I'd just look like a complete dick.

(*Some community history - Septimus Severus was/is someone in the Dom community who has a strong liking for stupid game formats on a large scale, and whenever he created a new game he would post about it in every thread he could, and also hijack every thread with meaningless comments just to promote his game.

"You guys are having an interesting conversation about SuperCombatants in this thread. So thought I'd just post to say that I think SC's are great. Oh and btw, I've looking for players for my new game. Anyone here interested? It's going to be a hundred times bigger and betters than all my previous games blah blah shit talk rubbish.......")

Hi, I am a total noob. I have played some single player, and would like to try out a MP game. (Are there some directions on the nuts and bolts of how to do this, like where to email the game files, etc.)

For faction, I know you said no water nations, but I was wondering if LA Atlantis count as a water nation? They start on land in the late age, so I think they should be ok. Plus they fit my theme of being terrible at this game, having been kicked out of the oceans by Ry'leh

Let me know if I can join as LA Atlantis.

Atlantis are absolutely fine, so I've signed you up as them. Welcome to the game :)

FYI - In Dominions talk, water/land nations mostly always refers to where a nation starts. And as Soyweiser said, there is (currently) only one water nation in Late Age, which is R'yleh.
